I will be staying with my parents for a few months and I will be bringing my 2 cats. I’ll stay in the basement but I’m trying to figure out how to make it so the cats cannot go upstairs, otherwise they might get outside 🥲

We have two 9-month-old cats, one female and one male, and we’re looking for a sturdy floor-to-ceiling cat tower or wall-mounted shelves for them. Since we also have a dog, it’s important for us to find something extremely stable and secure that won’t fall over, even when the cats are playing rough.
As they’re still growing and will likely get heavier, we’d also appreciate recommendations for options that are durable and designed to support their weight as they grow.

I have an apartment and want to get a tension rod cat tree (one of the ceiling to floorsl types) but am worried about the stability of them since they're not actually drilled in. Does anyone have any recs on things to look for or ones they've liked using?

My idiot son has cracked 2 external monitors on my work desk. He likes to launch himself at the window from the couch and my desk is the fallout zone. Unfortunately this is the only spot where it fits so I can’t move my workspace.
I have tried to encourage play elsewhere by putting cat shelves up and cat trees around the apartment but he still loves fucking around by the windows.
Usually it’s just knocking over my pen cup and coffee mug, but he’s taken out 2 monitors now and this shit is expensive lol.
Does anyone have good recommendations for weighing down monitors to prevent them from toppling over? I tried using monitor mount arm things but he managed to break that as well.

To start: they are both on a diet and losing weight. I'm not asking for comments on their weight.

I'm trying to find a cat tree or tower that is built to handle bigger babies. Most cite the structures (and pieces on the structures) weight limit to be 12 to 15lbs max. Both our babies are 20+.

I'd like to get them something they can enjoy and with climbing help their weight more without it breaking down on us because they are big.

Bonus points if it has a gothic/punk/fairy-whimiscal core vibe and is a fairly decent price.

I have adopted a rescue cat several months ago, my new roommate has decided she is going to get a cat as well. I want to keep a space for William to escape if he needs space since he’s had a really rough go of it and the shelter said he may be reactive to cats. I told my roommate this but it didn’t make a difference. I live in an apt, and I’m trying to figure out how to add an rfid door to my bedroom where his food, water and litter box are. I have a solid wooden door that’s about 2” thick and no windows or other access points leading into my bedroom. I’m wondering if I just have to bite the bullet and cut out a chunk of the door carefully and then repair it before I move out. Any tips on rfid doors that minimize damage or other ideas that don’t involve cutting a hole in my door?

I have a rescue who loves to chew on cords. I’m out of ideas for enrichment. we have multiple towers, are attempting to harness train him, have a cat wheel, do treat puzzles daily, and have stick toy play daily. He’s got a brother he plays with. We’ve taken most every precaution we can have recently got a tempurpedic adjustable bed frame. I’m trying to figure out how to protect everything underneath the bed from his tiny little teeth but I can’t seem to find any covers. I’m out of ideas and don’t want this bed to get ruined 😩 Do I just staple fabric to the base to cover it all? Does anyone have ideas/suggestions? I don’t know what other enrichment to do to deter him.

I’ve had cats in the past, and haven’t minded them scratching furniture. However, a few months ago I finally saved up for a dresser that I adore. I’m going to start to foster cats❤️

I’m willing to accept the fact that it will get scratched, but I do want to PREVENT it from happening. I bought a scratching post and tree to give them options.

Do you have any suggestions for covering the sides & legs of my wooden dresser? I don’t want to peel the wood or get a cover stuck to it. I saw adhesive protectors on amazon, but have only seen them put on couches.

I’d appreciate suggestions!

Hey yall. We will be welcoming our first foster tomorrow (Adult/senior) and this is how we have our basecamp/acclimation room set up. This is what's in the room from left to right

- window cat hammock/perch

- small cat tree by the window

- small carrier & water fountain next to cat tree

- food bowl & cardboard bed next to the door

- cat bed, coffin shelf, vertical scratching post next to door

- spot for another carrier

- 1st litter box

- 2nd litter box

- cat bed next to lamp

- cat bed at the foot of the bed

- diy cat hide from an Amazon box

There's also horizontal scratchers sprinkled throughout the room. We also bought a large rug as seen in the picture in case of any accidents.

Any recommendations before we welcome them home tomorrow? Thanks!

Hi all! I just bought a new house and am moving in soon. I have a lovely kitty who once in a while will stand up on her hind legs and scratch a corner of a wall or a wooden kitchen cabinet or couch. It’s a “once every few weeks” occurrence, so not crazy constant, but I don’t want any damage.

Anyone have any products or techniques to help my worry??

Salvaged parts from cat trees bought off marketplace, and from jobsite scraps I brought home. I also went to dollar tree and bought rugs/mats and fake plants to slap on the plywood pieces.

I didn't go into this with much design thought. Just located studs in the walls and started bulding and letting it come to me as I went along. My cats like to play 'floor is lava' so the only real goal here was to get them high, and off the ground. 😎

I plan to continue bulding and adding on to existing pieces. I have another wall in my living room I'm going to set up, and will upload those pictures with an update of this room in the near future.

Going into this again I will be more detailed and thorough on the next walls I do, but for now this is a good start. And I'm proud to share it with all you cat people for feedback, criticism, and ideas. Thanks for viewing.

Has anyone found a large/high goth cat tree with THICK posts? I'm in the UK.

We have a "main" cat tree with 4" radius posts, which is actually sturdy enough for our big kitties, (we're talking cats who are long enough to reach a doorknob standing on their back paws, and weigh between 14 and 17lb) but I bought a small, goth cat tree for our little tripod kitty, and discovered that the rest of the cats are OBSESSED with it.

The small one isn't big or sturdy enough for the bigger cats, and it only has one bed, which is what they're all wanting.

The simple solution seemed to be to just buy a bigger version with more beds, but the only ones I'm coming across have the thin, 2" diameter posts, which just won't last.

I'd thought previously about getting the tree in pic #4, which is potentially big enough to last for a \*bit\*, but it doesn't have the coffin-shaped beds, which is what they all seem to particularly like.

I'll emphasise here, this ISNT an appearance/aesthetic issue, its just that for some reason, all our cats have taken a particular liking to the coffin-shaped bed. Current theory is that it's a perch with enclosed sides, but big enough to not cramp/squash the bigger cats, and I can't find anything else which meets all those apparent criteria.

Anyway, I did find the trees in pics #5, 6, and 7, which all have 2 of the beds, but I have no idea how long they'll last.

Am I better off just buying one (or possibly 2 if I can find somewhere to put a second one) of the pictured trees, and seeing how they go, or am I better off buying the tree, but getting Cat Tree King posts, and Frankensteining the posts onto the new tree? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Looking for creative ideas for this little catwall nook! It’s 60 cm wide × 45 cm deep, and I can drill into both walls and the cabinet on the left. It’ll be for two average sized adult cats, and I’d love to make the most of the available width and depth, with a height of around 150–170 cm.

This is the design template we thought of right now, but I’m not so sure with it

I have a tall but narrow closet that currently houses the litter boxes, but there is so much vertical wall space above the litter boxes that is under utilized. I would love to use it as combo storage space and fun climbing units to install on the walls.

My goal is to optimize the space for storage while giving my boys more climbing room.

Would love ideas on how to configure this space, recommendations for climbing units and anything else! Here’s what I’m planning so far:

Move the board games out obviously.
Remove the rack.
Replace swinging doors with accordion doors.
Maybe add a tile backsplash behind the litter boxes for easy cleaning.
Paint or wallpaper the inside.
Add storage space.
Add wall climbing units, ladders, bridges anything else fun.

My wife and I are adopting a 12 week old kitten. The only real concern I have is these two sets of shelves in my home (for reference I live in a relatively small maisonette).

One is a wall mounted alcohol cabinet, the others are a set of 3 shelves next to my TV containing some small fragile decorative items and a PS5.

Should I be concerned about these and should I restrict access to them entirely for my cat? Just not sure how to best approach it, as I don't really have anywhere else in them place to put this stuff.
