Hi everyone! My wife and I just took in a 1 year old cat. We’re both first time cat owners.
Our apartment has two rooms and we’ve been keeping her litter and food in one of the rooms so obviously we have to keep that door open
Just asking what is everyone’s best hacks to keep the apartment smelling like ~cat~
We have friends that have 2 cats in a small 1 bed apartment and it never smells like a cat lives there and all they say is they clean.

Okay, long story short, I am trying to merge my 10 year old cat who has never lived with other cats (she lived with my parents) with 4 others cats. My 10 year old cat, Bubbles, was very sick so I kept her away in a separate room while she healed. When she met the other cats she hissed and tried to fight with them, but slowly backed off of doing that and the cats kept their distance... until one day our male cat, 6 yr old (Simon), started fighting her. She is kept in a separate room while they are merging and have definitely had moments where they are in the same room and just sit there. There is obviously hissing, but it eventually fades. Recently, Simon has been bolting into the room and attacking Bubbles. Now Bubbles will not come out of the room and is terrified every time I open the door. It's been roughly 4-5 months and there has been almost zero progress of them merging.

Am I hopeless here? Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to help Simon and Bubbles with the merging? I have tried hormone spray, food through the door and even with it open, allowing them to naturally see each other. I really don't want Bubbles to be locked in this room for forever. I know the goal is not free to have them be best friends but she cannot live here if she's going to be attacked all the time. I need the craziest advice or things that have worked with cats. I will try anything at this point so I don't have to send her back with my parents

Hi! I have a 20lb tabby cat and am looking for recommendations for cat carriers that can fit underneath the seat on an airplane.

My research shows products from Sturdi are highly rated. Does anyone have experience? I’m worried my cat is on the heavier end of most cat carrier weights and he won’t have enough room.

Hi y’all, I just had a question. So for context: I had a dog (15 y/o female spayed) who passed away a little over a month ago. We got my current cat when she was 5 months old and now she’s 5 years old (she is not spayed but will be getting it done in a couple weeks). She got along great with my dog, they didn’t play together but they lived in peace and harmony.

Onto the main question: I got two new kittens both whom are female, not spayed, and are 2 months old. I have been keeping them in a separate space (my bedroom) with their necessities and toys. I’ve been scent swapping toys, blankets, and letting them sniff my hands when I play with all of them. When it comes time to introduce the kittens to my resident cat, should I introduce both to her at the same time? One kitten is more curious about the environment while the other kitten is more curious about those IN the environment. Also if you guys have any tips on making their introduction and time here smooth, please give!

They already each have a litter box, a food bowl (they share food bowl), and I have a cat tree but no space to set it up. And also do you have any tips on how to make them both get along? (One hates me, the other won't leave me, and they always either fight or hiss at each other) also one of them keeps scratching my closet door and waking me up I don't wanna let him in because I have clothes there and he has sharp claws and I'm not sure if I trust him. (He's scratches arm when it's hanging off my chair sometimes (I think he thinks it's a toy) so I don't trust him) ​​​

What are you all using at the entrance/exit to clean your cats paws? Are you just using a shop vac to clean your Catio? Trying to figure out how to keep my house cleaner.

Hello all you fantastic people and kitties.

I have several cats. It didn't start off that way, but life happened and so we accumulated more and more over time. There's currently 7 cats living with us.

I started with 2 litter boxes, then 3, then 4, etc.

The very last box I installed is in a very central location, smack dab in the middle of the house.

My problem is, most of the cats STRONGLY prefer that one box, and very rarely visit the others. I scoop daily, and the centrally located box is used so much, that it's disgusting and I have to top it off with half a bag of litter... every day. While at the same time, the other boxes barely get used, in comparison. One of the boxes is ignored to the point where I don't have to add litter for a week. So the centrally located box gets WAY over-used. It's not like the cats don't know others exist, because they were all there beforehand, and some of them use the others sometimes.

How would you guys suggest I balance things out? How do I encourage these poop machines to spread the love?

Does anyone know of any litters that are comparable to Arm & Hammer’s Clump & Seal Slide that doesn’t have a smell to it? It’s supposedly unscented but it has a sort of smell to it which drives me nuts. But the litter works really well (clumping, decent odor control, doesn’t stick to the box, very minimal dust) so I’m not sure what to do.

Edit to say that I’m pretty low income, so high end litters are out of the question.

I have the bestest boy, but unfortunately he has one BIG flaw. He enjoys peeing close to the litterbox but not always in it. He stays the night on our basement and this is where his litterbox is. A previous cat had marked this spot, so we ripped up the carpet etc. he often uses his litterbox and will go days without missing. Then for weeks he will pee on the carpet. It’s never the same spot, but in the same room area. Never anywhere else. If we block off part of the area he will just pee in front of it and foil didn’t deter him. He has a vet appt this week to make sure it’s not a medical issue, but it seems more behavioral? We love him so much, but i also can’t have him destroy our new carpet. He’s almost a year old and has been spayed. Any and all tips or tools welcome.

We just moved into a new house. Unfortunately, we waited too long to get our cat fixed. He sprayed our brand-new couch and I CAN NOT get the smell out. Ive tried a generic spray ( should have known that wouldnt work) and I've also tried angry orange. I was very hopeful but all it did was mute the smell slightly. Does anyone know how I can actually get the smell out? Is there anything that will actually work?

Hey everyone! I'm new to this sub and I need some advice.

My cat, Nigel (2yo male), has struggled being too aggressive with my roommate's three cats. They have two 4yo twins (male and female) and a 1yo kitten (male) and we've been living with each other for a little over a month. Nigel and the 1yo play quite a bit and are sort of rough with each other every now and then, but Nigel and the 4yo male struggle to get along at all.

(The 4yo girl just doesn't leave my roommate's room anymore because she hates Nigel's scent so much and actually hisses at her brother and the kitten when they have been around Nigel).

My roommates and I have sat down and tried to figure this out because it's not fair that the three cats should be shut in the master bedroom at all hours of the day, especially when there is enough space for them. We've tried separating them and keeping Nigel in my bathroom at night with his food, water, litter and his bed, but he'll cry for a long time trying to get out. I'm worried that he feels abandoned because he sleeps on my bed every night, but I can't keep his litter box in my room because of the carpet.

Edit to add: All four cats are spayed/neutered and have been since way before we all moved in together.

Nigel can be a bit aggressive when it comes to playtime with the 1yo, but we try to supervise when we can. When it comes to the 4yo, they get really loud and aggressive with each other. My roommate is rightfully cautious because she found a scratch near the 4yo's eye, but from what I can tell they're just trying to hash things out? My other roommate doesn't want the kitten to pick up Nigel's habits either, which I guess I understand.

All this to say, I really want all of this to work out because I love my roommates, I love all of our cats, but I don't know how to have my cat calm down and have them all get along. I really want to do right by everyone, but I don't know how.

Any advice would be so appreciated. I'm so tired and exhausted trying to figure this out.

I saved a male cat after its addict owner decided to go into sober living. The cat was living in a car with her. When I got him they didn’t have a carrier, etc so he bit and scratched me as I got him into the house. Then he ran under my couch and didn’t come out for 2 days. And I think he peed under there because my house smells now and that makes me angry because the couch is too heavy for me to move. Now he somehow found his way under my bed. I moved his food and cat litter in there and he’s eating and using the cat box but I don’t see him do it. He’s never been to the vet so I have an appt on Sept 10th to get his shots and set up an appt to neuter him. I can’t even imagine how I’m going to get him out from under the bed - much less I
Into a cat carrier. Sigh. I’m wondering if I made the right choice?

EDIT: Thx for the comments. He’s exploring - I went out for a couple of hours today and when I came back there was cat litter on my kitchen table and some paw prints. I put some mice toys near where he stays and when I went back in the bedroom the toys were gone and with him. He ate all his wet food and some dry food and is drinking lots of water. I think I’ll push back the vet visit based on all your responses even tho there’s a risk he’ll spray. But I got a black light and some natural enzyme cleaner so anything that happens can be cleaned up.

Hi. Question. I have 12 cats right now. Never had this happen. I had five and then a mama cat stayed on my porch and had 6 kittens. I kept everyone. 😅 She used to take slippers and carry them around. It was super cute. Now one her kittens, Benji, is 9 months now and he does this same thing, except he also takes many other items and puts them in the litter box. Anyone else’s cats do this? Did they grown out of it? One time he took an entire bed pillow and stuffed it into the litter box. lol. Sometimes it’s a pillow case. A blanket or even my clothes. It’s just him. I see him on camera like a little man on a mission to get it into the box. He also does it with his own toys, little cat springs and small towels.

So mine destroyed an entire plant. a large one. one i'd kept alive for two years which is a genuine achievement for me (and proud of it). Months ago, I came home to soil everywhere, pot on its side, plant horizontal. she was sitting next to it looking really really guilty. genuinely sad. Looked at her. she looked at me. Now how the hell would I be mad at her????????

Anyway bought another one the next day and kept it out of her reach. Moved on that easily without a choice.

What can I do to get rid of that "cat" smell? I bought a secondhand litter robot (catlink open x to be specific) and it smells. Not even pee/poop but a "cat" smell if that makes sense

Hi! I'm a vet student from italy and i adopted this stray cat. So before letting it inside my house we ran some tests for parasites and we found out that it was positive for Microsporum canis (aka the most common species of ringworm in cats). So this happened about at the end of july.

We treated him with treoconazole x Os for one week, then stopper for another, and restarted the treatment for one week. For all this time it was in our vet hospital, i went there only to pet him (gloves on).

So yesterday i picked him up because the prof said it was time to take him home and i was so happy, but now im worried that the ringworm will spread to me and my flatmates😭. We touch him only with gloves, he is not allowed in our bedrooms but only in the kitchen/ hallway and bathroom.

Im going to vacum+mop everyday with waterannd bleach as the professor suggested.

How i can sterilize my chlothes without damaging them? Like i mean to remove the spores of the ringworm.

I have a 6 year old grey tabby who sometimes poops outside the box. I’ve been monitoring her when she goes to the bathroom and the issue is she doesn’t go in all the way so sometimes half her poop will be inside the box and half will be outside the box. I just got a stainless steel with a sifter in between. I’ve opted to place a paper towel outside so it’s easier to clean up but it’s still messy to clean up. Any recommendations with how I can get her all the way in the box? Or anything I can add onto the litter box? It’s an open top so she can go all the way in! My other orange tabby doesn’t struggle with this issue because they use the bathroom differently. (Grey one has her back to the door, orange one faces the door) thank you all in advance!

Just to preface: I scoop twice a day (morning and evening) sometimes more if I see her go and use the box

But it still smells like ammonia, the litter itself clumps pretty easily and has a mild scent (I would pick the unscented but pidan tofu is the best I could afford since I found a place that sells it for a reasonable price)

My guess is the issue isn’t the litter it’s the scooper: I use the one that came with the litter genie and it sometimes lets the smaller pee clumps escape making them hard to scoop and so they stay in the box generating the pungent stink :( I have some natural activated carbon in the bathroom where the litter box is kept but it doesn’t do much!

I am moving for a few months and will be living in a TINY house where the box will be in the living room and so I need some advice on how to deal with the issue! Any suggestions are appreciated :)

P.S.. I have tried sprinkling some baking soda in the bottom but it doesn’t seem to work :(

What is the best option it’s a beautiful couch he ruined our first one so I’m worried about this one and would like to keep it in a very nice condition. He does not give a shit about tinfoil or the cat repellent spray he will do whatever he wants…. He’s orange and a rescue turning 10. Just want to keep this the best possible low income options preferred. Also it’s like a cream grey colour (MIL gifting to us). Any advice appreciated thank you.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with dealing with cats that make exceptionally stinky poops?

For context, my cat goes in the box 100% of the time, i scoop it daily, and completely change the litter and deep clean the box weekly.

Even with a perfectly fresh box and new litter (I use dr elsey's*)* the litter REEKS of garlic and onions even after the first day.

I am have been going back and forth to the vet a few times but so far, we have just been able to determine what ISNT wrong with him. No fleas, no urine issues, no parasites/worms, etc. I currently have him on Hills Science Diet senstive digestion (which has helped his anal leakage issues).

Im waiting to hear back from my vet on how to proceed (assuming they will try him on another new food) but was curious if anyone has any experience with how to mitigate this specific weird garlicky-onion poop smell?

Hi! My (6 month old male) cat will poop in the box, bury it, then dig it up and put it just outside of the box. I have been to the vet for it ☝️. The vet said they don’t know, and that he might just be going through a phase.

He did it right after I cleaned the box. It is an open top box, and this has only recently become a problem, his box has been in the same spot for the 3-4 months we’ve had him.

We rescued him from my fiancé’s jobsite when he was about 2 months old. He isn’t neutered yet, he has a shot appointment tomorrow and then we will schedule his neuter + microchip appointment after that.

I put the coveted mouse toy in a brown lunch bag and he loves it.

We have an 11 year old cat. He will not go in the litter box. Pee? Fine. Poop, no! We’ve tried everything. Vet, CD 2 litter boxes, making sure he isn’t constipated, different kinds of litter. He only does it on soft surfaces like clothes, rugs, blankets etc and sometimes he will go in the litter box but only rarely. We are desperate.
