Finger Position Problem

Post image

This is out of Vivaldi Cello Concerto G Minor RV531

Struggling with these areas and would like to know what position and fingering would you use?

I learned this song years ago and had it down. I decided to revisit it recently and I’m really struggling with this area.

I just play as a hobby and to keep my mind sharp.

Depends on your hands. I played this as a really big stretch, but it’s really hard to nail the intonation. I think in reality I played it as a big stretch with a little hop, almost rocking between the notes. You could play it with the thumb, but I find that harder to play in thumb position in the lower positions.

I like to stretch with the first finger to reach the lower octave but it only works if your hand is a certain size

Large hand gang represent, it definitely simplifies a lot

Thumb on the lower notes and then 3 and 2 for the upper ones

You can do small hops from 1-4 and back! Practise with different rhymes and a metronome. Don't squeeze with the thumb, and have a good open posture in your hand.

this is a thumb solution. it’s consistent, you just need to get used to putting your thumb in weird places

I agree with firake here.. thumb position is probably necessary for typical Vivaldi tempo.
