The funeral home made a massive mistake on Cassius’ temporary marker, he was born in 2021 not 1921 and he died in late July of this year. His father is one of my closest friends, I witnessed his internment, and attended both the funeral and the calling hours. He loved the TMNT and paw patrol and the color orange. He was buried in a white casket with a large sticker of the turtle with the orange bandana on it and paw patrol stickers on the sides.

He died in a tragic car accident.

I was reminded of this beauty after seeing the post by u/Tiberius_Johann of the Dodge Brothers' tomb in Woodlawn Cemetery and had to share!

This is the Winter Mausoleum in Pittsburgh’s Allegheny Cemetery. An Egyptian Revival monument built in 1930 for wealthy banker and steel industrialist Emil Winter.

It has been affectionately nicknamed the "Titty Sphinx" by locals because of the distinct, human-like anatomical details of the twin female sphinxes (modeled after Greek rather than traditional Egyptian styles) flanking the entryway.

St Mary Cemetery, East Moline IL

An unusual sight - these two large stones can be found in the churchyard in Llangernyw, Conwy in North Wales. Nearby is an inscribed cross stone of Early Medieval date. It is assumed they are prehistoric in date, although no archaeological excavation has ever been undertaken to verify this.

The churchyard is also famous for its yew tree, suggested to be at least 5,000 years old. Perhaps the tree was planted contemporaneously when these stones were first erected. Assuming they haven't been moved it shows the ritual significance of a site whose history may span from the Late Neolithic / Early Bronze Age to the present day.

I recently moved, nearby I noticed a cemetery I had not seen before (previously worked as a funeral professional ) last week I pulled in to take some time to walk the grounds. A Russian Orthodox cemetery.

I was just driving the perimeter when I saw an orthodox wooden cross with the picture of a young man. I pulled over and saw the traditional markings. Head plate and foot plate. I looked the young man up.

This young man and his mother were Russian refugees, while at the US Embassy she left her adult son behind. While she was gone, he was beaten with a pipe. He asked to go home to Russia to die/wait for passage to the US. Sadly he died in Russia before he could be brought to America.

His mother eventually got her visa and then worked tirelessly to bring his remains here for reburial.

I’m not often moved to post in here, but I feel like this is a story worth sharing.

This looks custom with both death symbolism and items the dead guy loved plus organizations he belonged to. It’s so detailed.

my uncle richie was born in a german displaced persons camp after wwII. he came to america at age four, turning five, in 1951. he battled with severe ptsd after fighting on the front lines in vietnam. it was complicated, especially because i was so young and had to face that reality. nonetheless, i loved him very much.

i was only a preteen when he died, but i visited him before he passed. that was the only time i ever talked to him my entire life due to family reasons. i remember he was very proud that i could read a map and that i knew/was interested in history (because of my age). when we talked, it always amounted to something valuable to remember. his stories were so cool since he did so much in such a brief life.

i truly do miss him, and i wish i got to see him more often.

Louise Taplin was a trained nurse and charity worker who devoted 15 years to Sydney’s vulnerable women and children as matron of the Infants’ Home at Ashfield. Many infants arrived sick, neglected or abandoned and under Louise’s leadership, the Home’s mortality rate fell dramatically from an average of 36.6% to just 7% in 1893. She also supported unmarried mothers facing severe social stigma and when financial crisis threatened the Home’s closure, offered to work without pay. Affectionately known as Tappy by the children, Louise became a maternal figure to countless infants who had nowhere else to go.
