Thinking of quitting
I work for Aramark as a Chef manager and absolutely have it. The job won't allow me to fire bad employees and everyone my director hires is a complete waste of time. Im wondering if everywhere is this bad or if I should just leave.

university of Montana here lol ya we have issues too! But we are part of a union so they can’t be fired for not working hard enough I would love to fire about 3 people for not working hard enough!we just won three national awards a couple months ago!

Thats awesome. Mine cant be fired for job abandonment or smoking pot on school grounds.

Mine should be fired but they don’t! Job abandonment I had a worker walk out last week and she still hasn’t shown up or lost her job yet! She was going in two hours early off the clock and they told her she can’t do that she left

Lame, I used to do concessions and Rebel Catering at OleMiss as a support chef for Sodexo. Could not describe to you how different my experience was than what you're going through.
Go speak with Chef Matt on the Sodexo side and see if he can offer you some advice or a job. 🤣

Aramark is particularly bad. Compass is bad too. They would give me an absolute laughable budget and then ill get yelled at for serving grits and going over budget. What can you do when you have zero staff and your budget is $1.12 a meal? And they want a full service deli. Lol. Fuck aramark.

I worked at a similar company with the same bullshit. I quit and went into food sales. Make way more money and have way less stress

Find a kitchen with heart = find a kitchen that will pay you a dollar over minimum wage, works you 12 hours a day, will cut your hours on a whim to 2 days a week when sales suck, a chef that has a drinking problem, is handsy, and loves to yell.

Aramark is an extremely bad company. They undercut all bidders for contracts and have to hire inexperienced employees at next to minimum wage to save money.

I got suspended for speaking out from a really toxic it feels like people just talk shit to divert attention from themselves. I’ve never seen some many cooks sit or do nothing in my life. I don’t care if people chill but do call me out when I work nonstop. Problem was I spoke out against a sous. At the end of the day I feel relief I felt myself stressing out way more than I needed to because I had to take on other people’s work. Hopefully I can find a place where people can work together. I’m not an outspoken person so speaking out was hard just to be punished.
TLDR if a place is dragging you down you need to get out it rarely gets better. It’s not worth the stress for a job that doesn’t respect you or pay you enough to live

I did 5 years at Aramark in university dining as an EC.....it was rough, so I feel ya on this one.

You should!! I have been here before both as Chef and Director. I have work Cruiseline, healthcare, hospitals and nursing homes etc.
I can tell you one thing, it doesn't get better until you change your field of work. I have seen Chef died from stressing over this job. I have seen Director get full stroke.
Take your skill in another industry. Food sales with U.S food etc. But staying in food service will guarantee you a miserable life no matter how far you go up the food chain.

Everything that involves the kitchen today is just not worth it. It’s a beautiful path of life to take but it stopped bringing that satisfaction it gave you once, now it’s just about making money and suffering. It lost that soul, that heart that it once had.
