Looking to move near Chester - what's it like in Garden Village, Saltney?

Upvotes

Looking to move up North and like Chester, prices in Chester are out of our budget so looking at surrounding areas, and found a few properties in a road called Garden Village in Saltney.

Just wondered if anyone had any experience of that area and could give us some feedback on what it's like to live around there!

We have a young family so want to find somewhere that's pretty safe!

Is there any work available? Chester based

Hi, I live in Chester and currently work 35 hours a week, I have just been offered a contract full time. but I have had a lot going on recently with things such as family court. my income isn't quite cutting it and I need to find something that I can do on top of my current working hours to push my income a little higher, do to court arrangements I am also limited from weekend availability, my current working hours are 9-5, but usually finish around 4pm, so ideally I am looking for something that I could potentially do for a couple hours after my current work shift that just gives me a bit of a boost. does anyone know of anything that may be able to cater for this? i know its not a great position to be in but I am willing to try my hand at something new if required i just don't want to struggle any more.

Chester Weightlifting Drop-in

I'm over for work next week and looking for a spot to train Weightlifting. Any recommendations?

I'm specifically looking for Weightlifting, as in Olympic Lifting, not general Weight training. So platforms, Olympic bars, bumper plates etc.

Cheers in advance

Carpenter recommendations?

I'm looking for a reliable carpenter who can make two freestanding, solid wood wardrobes and a chest of drawers. I have some designs in mind that I spotted on the website of a furniture company and I'm kind of set on, but the brand is basically the equivalent of fast fashion for furniture and the company is a nightmare to deal with if you need a refund or want to return an item according to reviews.

I want my furniture to last as long as possible and to be able to refinish it when it eventually starts showing its age, but I can't find any ready-made, solid wood furmiture close to what I want in terms of design.

Can you recommend anyone who does this kind of work in or around Chester?

Thanks

Anyone around Chester interested in Japanese language & culture?

Hi everyone, Just wanted to introduce myself — I live here in Chester and work as a certified Japanese tutor. I work mostly with adult learners (lessons are conducted online), helping people with everything from travel phrases and complete beginner basics to casual conversation. I have a bit of availability opening up, so if anyone has been thinking about learning Japanese or wants to know more, please feel free to reach out. Cheers!

Chester - Takeaway queries

Hi All,

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Me and my partner have recently moved to Chester and have been living here for three months now. We are struggling to find good takeaways. Can anyone suggest some please as the ones we have tried have just been real bad.

Ones we have tried:

- The Saddle Inn (Undercooked, bland and too greasy)
- Three Fellas Burger (Good tasty burger but way too salty)
- The slow boat (Just a bad Chinese and bland)
- Urbanopizza32 (Pizza came cold and full of grease)

Food And Things To Do

Hi there, coming to Chester next month for a few days, visiting Zoo.

Has anyone got any recommendations on things to do, museums, gardens, parks etc etc.

Also looking for some good food spots, ideally want a Banging Sunday roast spot and just good food for other days.

Staying on outskirts of Chester and ubering in, so anything in Chester Centre.

Thanks.

Moving to Chester

Hi, myself and my family are considering moving to Chester. We currently live in North Wales but have lived in Ellesmere Port for the past 3 years and really liked it, we moved to North Wales but were missing Cheshire now. My husband works in Chester so ideally would like to live around there. Are Hoole and Handbridge still the best places to live in Chester? Do you have any recommendations? That are great for families and schools etc?

Plasterer recommendations in Chester please!

I'm looking for a good plasterer in Chester, please give me your recommendations! (Ones you've actually used or heard good things about, not just ones you know of.) I just want a room skimmed so small local plasterers are probably for the best.

Charity shop drop off in Chester

We've been having a sort out today and we've got bin bags full of stuff for a charity shop (clothes and toys mostly, some bric-a-brac). What's a good charity shop in Chester area we can just turn up and drop it all off with minimal fuss? Don't really want to fill in forms if we can help it, and don't want to sort it by type.

I'll try and take a photo but there have been an insane number of lightning strikes over the last hour. Feel like they're more over Rossett or Wrexham bit heading this way

Is there anywhere in central Chester where you can eat your own food indoors?

For the next few weeks, I'm attending a course in central Chester that boots us out at lunchtime.

The city centre has lots of benches for visitors (probably best provision I've ever seen 👏) and eating my sarnies in the sunshine this afternoon was very pleasant. But tomorrow afternoon the forecast is torrential downpours.

I know it's a long shot, but is there anywhere I can eat a packed lunch indoors? I've got to renew my library books, so do you think I could eat my own food at Storyhouse?

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who replied. It seems like the Market will be the best option.

The Chester Quiz League needs YOU

I'm currently recruiting for the Chester Quiz League which starts in a few weeks time.

It runs on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 PM and all venues are near the city centre, the furthest from the centre being The Little Owl.

All current teams would welcome you with open arms.

Typically, on the night, teams of 4 play another team of 4.

You don't need to be a genius. All questions are consultation (team) questions rather than individual ones.

The quizzes take place in a (preferably) quiet corner of a team's home venue. Home teams are provided each week with a sealed question paper to be opened on the night.

If you are interested in entering a new team of 4 into the league or are an individual interested in joining a current league team message me for more details.
