I want to take a moment to remind everyone that this subreddit does not vet anyone who posts. Additionally, banned users can still view the subreddit and message you privately to scam you.

There are more scammers active in this subreddit than legitimate buyers/sellers. Scammers flock to places like this as these types of subreddits/forums provide an easy place to target as many people with scams as possible.

While you cannot stop people from trying to scam you, here are some precautions you should take when buying/selling tickets online:

Buy from Official Sources

• Authorized sellers: Try to purchase through the event's official website/authorized ticket vendors (such as Ticketmaster, StubHub, or SeatGeek) when possible and when they offer resale ticket options. I know these companies are predatory with their fees, but sometimes the peace of mind is worth an added cost.
• Verified resellers: If buying from a third party, make sure the platform verifies the legitimacy of the tickets, like on StubHub or Vivid Seats, which offer guarantees.

Avoid Deals That Seem Too Good

• If a ticket price seems unusually low, it's a red flag. Scammers often lure buyers with prices that are much lower than the market rate.
• If somebody is trying to sell a ticket at or under face value, be wary. People are not often interested in losing money on tickets and will want to recoup the full cost (maybe with a little extra) to make them whole again.

Use Secure Payment Methods

• PayPal: Methods that offer buyer protection (PayPal G&S) are a great way to stay protected. If a seller does not want to use PayPal G&S, it is very likely they are trying to scam you.

Check Seller Profile

• If a new account is contacting you about buying/selling tickets, be extra cautious.
• If the account has sketchy post history, be extra cautious.
• This subreddit does not prevent people from posting with low karma at this time, so it is easier for new redditors (and unfortunately, scammers) to post.
• Remember, banned users can still message you.
• Do a Google search for their username or any contact information they are giving you - some scammers have been reported already in other subreddit threads.
