CLI 1 year long program

hi! I’m currently a senior at a university in the states and I’ve been studying Chinese for the past four years. I’ve studied abroad in Beijing and Shanghai for two months respectively and I’m looking to continue studying Chinese post grad. I definitely want to apply for a few government scholarships but was planning on doing so after taking a gap year. i still want to continue learning Chinese and I love living in china so I was looking into the CLI year long program.

has anyone done it for that amount of time?
im interested in living in a private apartment. im vegan and I’ve lived with a host family before (in Shanghai) and though the experience was wonderful, it was only short term and i would feel bad forcing a family to accommodate me for an entire year. also i want the chance to live independently in China. does anyone have experience with the private apartments?

how were the classes? I’ll be entering as a low advance student and hope to reach as close to fluency as I can. was the one on one effective in that? how did they accommodate for your level?

what is there to do around Guilin? it looks beautiful and I love hiking and nature so are there any good trails near the city?

how’s the local culture? are the locals friendly to foreigners and how many foreigners are there in the city?

any advice/answers would help. thank you!
