Why do some of us love the Western? As Scott Eyman said in his biography of John Wayne, it is...

"a genre that seamlessly encompasses all the great American themes -- the trek west, the shifting balance between individual independence and communal alliance, and the challenges of technology: the stagecoach, the telegraph, the railroad. It’s a genre about ceaseless change."

'The Adventures Of Cyclone Malone'. One of TV's earliest westerns (1950). Oh, and just one more thing -- it was produced with puppets.

Tom Selleck y Sam Elliot: The sacketts y Shadow Riders

Vera Miles turned 96 on Sunday, & coincidentally I happened to watch her in a classic Wagon Train episode, "The Sister Rita Story". Vera plays one of three nuns traveling to New Mexico to start a mission school for Indian children. Needless to say, Flint McCullough falls in love with her.

TW: Occasional use of racial slurs for East Asians (& a once off for Natives & African-Americans) which were added by English dub studio & not in the original Italian in order to make his attacks seem more justified (at least that is what i heard on an old DVD that included a commentary track) rather than make him cold blooded killer

Frank Gallop was the announcer for the Perry Como show. In 1966 he released the single "The Ballad Of Irving", a parody of western sagas like Lorne Greene's "Ringo". It made the pop top 40 (#2 Adult Contemporary!). "TBOI" would go on to be a mainstay of the Dr Demento radio show from the '70s on.

Wayde Preston's portrayal of a too-good-to-be-true hero in the Maverick ep "The Saga of Waco Williams" would later inspire the creation of equally perfect p.i. Lance White on The Rockford Files.

"The Adventures of Tom Mix", unsold pilot. Self-invented Tom is portrayed as a genuine western hero, like Wyatt Earp or Bat Masterson. Even if you don't watch the ep, watch the sales pitch at 29:42, as narrator Carleton Young & star William Campbell pitch the show to potential sponsors (1957)

What is it about the final scene in ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’ that resonates with so many of us (me included)?

Dick York on Wagon Train. One of the most preposterous Indians in western history. A better wig might have helped. A little.
