Looking for a Cloud Engineer to study the basics
I'm looking for someone confident in the field to take some free time to just simplify things for me and help me understand the core necessities of the job.
Hello, I am giving myself a year and a half to study everything cloud computing: cloud engineering and devops mainly, to later add agentops and a little on data engineering.
I am currently using free tier AWS and have a free student Oracle account. I will later move onto Azure and end with GCP. I also have data bricks if it's ever useful.
I am taking free courses and YouTube university but the basic concepts are hard for me to understand and grasp fully. I feel when I know the basics, everything will fall into place.
I am fine with linux, but everything else makes little sense to me. I would describe it as learning a language and the function behind every language which I am struggling to grasp: scripting, APIs, etc.
I know a little about terraform but not at a confident level. I have no idea about K8s even after watching many videos on it. Postgres is basic SQL, so it's fine, I just need to refresh my knowledge. Github actions and other CI/CD, I have not gotten around to those yet.
I am studying CS (3 years in) but where I am studying it, a professional university at top in my school, isn't teaching it the best. AI helps but it can only do so much when the basics weren't taught to you properly.
I have already spent 3 months on it but I do not want to give up.
Please do not recommend courses on certs, I am doing that already.
Bonus points if you know enough about landing zones to teach for a short time.
I have no previous IT skills but plan to have that as my first role when leaving uni.

Why Oracle? Did you lose a bet?
I've been working in the Cloud since the beginning and I can tell you for certain they'd ABSOLUTELY be my lowest priority.

I think out of all the cloud providers, Oracle has the most powerful vm in the “always free bracket”. It even has static public address that you can play.

Yes, if you can get it started you can have a VM sitting there for free to test setting up k8s etc

There is no course in world that will make you understand a single topic and make you the best, only things that make you understand tha things related to it when you use it in real project, pick a project related to it and then try to build it from scratch better then going for course and that old traditional method. BTW I am a cloud engineering too 😊

Okay, that is a little reassuring to know. I am lucky someone made +1k cloud projects and that I was alive and curious to find it, but all will be useless if the very basics don't click. Good luck on your cloud career too, thank you so much for messaging! Hope to connect when I advance.

I'd actually slow down on adding more platforms. AWS + Linux + networking + scripting + Git is already enough to build a strong foundation.

Don't you need other basics like Network+? DNS? Windows Server OS etc.
