Any fully shaved bald here?
Wondering if an electric skull shaver used every other day will be an issue with the implant or any issues you guys notice like comfort when the magnet is attached?

Hey guys, I recently went to get my device activated and unfortunately my head was still a bit too swollen to get it connected. They have shown other brands and types but I am firmly wanting to continue with my Cochlear off the ear (This is the second meeting I have had to get it activated and failed due to swelling).
They have suggested surgery to reduce the swelling and I would really prefer to not have another surgery just for that.
Has anyone had any issues like this? Were you able to resolve the issue without surgery? Couldn't I just wait longer rather than cut my ear open? I apologize if this is not a lot of info for you guys but I'm still really new to all this (21 y/o :\).
Thanks!

Hey all, I just wanted to say a thank you to everyone who posts questions and writes comments about their experiences. I have just had implant surgery on 25th August and all the tips I gleaned from here have been spot on and have definitely helped me to prepare better.
Just reading this sub has helped me immensely, so you just never know how you may be helping someone by posting your experience or what may seem like a silly question. Maybe now I'll be able to contribute and help others through the process 😄
Everything looking good and activation day on 8th. Just gotta ride out this lightheadedness!

Hi everyone!
Recently, I have done some research regarding my cochlear implant journey. Since our audi is neutral due to lawsuit pressure if caught favouring one brand over another. Though he's implicitly trying to guide me towards AB. Let's ignore it.
Please remember it's under $10,438 US dollars (10 lakhs). Paying out of pocket.
Cochlear ci500 offers, nucleus 7, kanso 2 which are the best within the amount, but with 1.5 tesla mri.
Medel with sonata 2 with sonnet 2, rondo 3. The sales guy informed me to wait till September 15th and sonnet 3 will be coming approx within the amount limit. It's the only implant with 3 tesla mri, boasting close to natural hearing.
Advanced Bionics - HI RES ULTRA IMPLANT M30 PROCESSOR AND HI RES ULTRA 3D IMPLANT WITH Q90 PROSESSOR. Both under 10 lakhs. Due to the lawsuit in 2020, ab almost lost all trust among us. Fortunately, they're slowly mending the trust.
Can u guys pls help in commenting your experiences with the above mentioned devices? In india, no insurance covers cochlear implants. No govt supports too unless you're a kid below 6 or poor. Ofc, there's govt funds available but it's approval depends on their moods too.

I have been implanted for 3 1/2 years and I have advanced bionics marvel. I was told that I can get some extra batteries from insurance and that was that, not much help😅. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me more information on your experience with this? I was implanted at a 2 processor clinic so I’m guessing I can only get one more set of batteries for each set of processors? I asked about new ear hooks and that was a no- go. I also have heard a few times that they can send an extra waterproof battery if you already have one? Thanks in advance!

We had opted for med-el rondo 3 and today was the surgery.
Rondo 3 kit doesn't have audiolink for bluetooth connectivity, rep said its not included in sonata 2 peocessor which i was not aware.
What would be the cost for audioLink( read that audioStream is not compatible with laptop, i want a universal accessory which xan connect both mobile and laptop) in India?

Hi all,
I am curious to know if any one has experienced similar symptoms like me. I have been using medel sonnet for more than a year.
It's currently winter in Australia, and I noticed that the site of my internal receiver currently harbours fungal infection. I am currently on medication to remove the fungal infection but my ENT surgeon says they haven't experienced anything like this for their other patients.
Has anyone experienced similarly due to magnet strength becoming too strong one year down the line.
Thanks a lot for your support and advise.

Is anyone else struggling with this issue? I don’t want to travel 7 hours to see my audiologist just because of an app issue.

I was activated on 7-21-26 and was curious how other people re-learned to hear language? I have a CI in my left ear and my right ear is un-assisted. I was told to stream audiobooks with captions into my CI, but then my good ear has nothing to listen to. Would it be better not to stream into my CI and use the CI microphone and allow my audiobook to play through my tablets speaker? Would this allow my brain to learn better since it knows what the voices should sound like in my good ear to train the the brain all over again for the left implanted side? For those who started with robotic voices and eventually transitioned to normal sounding voices, what method worked for you?

After 3 years of having a spare coil, and not ever needing it, day 1 of a cruise in middle of Atlantic the coil started cutting out, crackling, etc. Took it off for awhile, but did not solve. Thankfully I have the aqua kit with me, so I’m using that successfully. Otherwise this would be a very quiet cruise…

Now that I am iut off warranty I am wondering if I need insurance on my processor. If I lose or my dog fets my processor how do I get a replacement? I need to remember to ask my audiologist next month. I get worried when out on my boat. A bad wave could knock it off. I got out if the car once and a gust of wind knocked the door into me sending my processor flying. Three of us looked and never found the battery. It us probably still on the bottom of the car.
What do you all do?

I just received AB August 7th. Very happy I chose AB because they are supposed to have superior voice recognition, others boast about music recognition. Since I could never hear music especially with vocals this was not a deciding factor.
Activation day August 20th 2026 speech was spot on my audiologist was amazed. I have a future proof option certificate good for one year. We'll see how that goes. Saturday August 22nd I must have knocked it on the floor, my daschund ate it for breakfast. I'm still missing parts.

Anybody else having trouble with Nucleus 8 and Samsung one UI 9.0 (android version 17) no longer connecting bluetooth for phone calls but only media streaming? There doesn't seem to be an option to enable it anywhere in the bluetooth settings either.

Hi everyone!
I made the decision this year to get cochlear implants. I have profound hearing loss in both ears and wear hearing aids in both ears. About three years ago, I had the initial consult with the ENT who would be doing the surgery but I wasn’t ready at that time. Now I’m starting the process over again with my first appointment with the ENT in November.
If you are a fellow teacher, I am curious to hear your experience with CIs. I’m a first grade teacher and every year it’s getting harder and harder to hear my littles. Please feel free to chime in about other group interactions, this doesn’t have to be limited to experience in the classrooms. I am curious about how hearing has changed going from hearing aids to cochlear implants at family parties, meetings, or social outings in restaurants, bars, etc.
Additionally, how do you guys use office handset phones with cochlear implants? I get phone calls all the time from the main office regarding my students and currently rely on either a student helper to answer or I put it on speaker and use the live captions app on my iPhone.

I've seen that people paint their coil caps into cool designs, and I want to do something like that, but my brand is Cochlear and they have criminally few colour or customisation options. Any way I can get an AB coil hat to fit, or can I adapt something else to snap on the coil?

I got implanted in my left ear about a month ago and activated about two weeks ago. I have not had a haircut in two months. It’s still a bit sore behind the ear. Where can I find a barber who is familiar with the needs of recently implanted people and will be gentle with the healing area? I’m in New York City, Manhattan to be exact.

Seriously ever since the new update, I have to disconnect and then reconnect my N8 to the app and my phone every day. It’s tedious and never happened before this! Is anyone else having this issue???

Newbie here! I was activated on August 17th for my recently implanted left ear CI. When there is any external noise I have a metal rattling sound which is pretty constant. It does stop when there is external quiet. Is this normal? It is frustrating especially after a period of time. Thanks so much.

Has anybody noticed if the app is showing a time lag in recording talking times? I spend my whole day wearing on my sound processor and listen to at least 3-4 podcasts in which at least 2 may be an hour or a minimum of 44 minutes long plus at least 2 episodes of some TV running to 40 odd minutes and yet it shows me as barely touching the 4 hours worth of listening time! Is this an app defect or am I doing something wrong? How is it that even after wearing on the processor the whole day from around 11 morning to 11 in the night it still seems to say I did barely 4-6 hours of talk time? Feeling very frustrated. Am I doing anything wrong? Please share your thoughts?
