[MOD] The Daily Question Thread

Welcome to the daily /r/Coffee question thread!

There are no stupid questions here, ask a question and get an answer! We all have to start somewhere and sometimes it is hard to figure out just what you are doing right or doing wrong. Luckily, the /r/Coffee community loves to help out.

Do you have a question about how to use a specific piece of gear or what gear you should be buying? Want to know how much coffee you should use or how you should grind it? Not sure about how much water you should use or how hot it should be? Wondering about your coffee's shelf life?

Thinking about grabbing a V60 to replace my busted french press, any reason I'd regret that switch

Requires more technique and a gooseneck kettle to get the best out of it, and it doesn't hold up well to milk, but the potential for great black coffee is much higher imo - more clarity and complexity, cleaner body, no mud / sediment in your cup.

Different brew methods highlight different flavors/roasts. V60 is better for light or medium-light roasted coffee whereas FP is better for medium medium-dark roast; IMO.

Curious if there is anyone here that skips days of drinking coffee sometimes or just isn’t a daily coffee drinker?

Definitely for sure. I drink coffee for the experience of making it and for the flavour of it. If I don't feel like drinking, I just don't.

I don't default to making a cup for myself every day like a daily rhythm.

My espresso puck come out looking like it has silt/wet mud on top, and is rather wet looking, although it comes off of Porta filter as one block just fine. What am I doing wrong? Is it because of too much fine in grind or something else?

Hey, I need advice for an "All in one aeropress grinder", so something that is compact enough for travelling and something that withheld daily use. Currently I'm in between the "made by knock aergrind with the 2025 blue dot burrs "and the "1 zprezzo Q" series as both of them keep coming up when doing my research. I'd consider myself a buy it for life person so rather buy a tank of a grinder for a bit more and not have to worry about it.

I have a budget of around £150, but preferably lower. I like good coffee but I don't have the pallet of a judge, so I will opt for the grinder that is built a lot better over one that tastes menially better. I must say I'm more swayed towards the aergrind because it looks like a huge hunk of metal that looks sturdy and I do like it's fully made in Scotland. So I'm just wondering what your thoughts and is there any other options I should consider?

Can I please ask: what’s Ireland’s (particularly Dublin’s) best decaf coffee? I’m wondering specifically about the decafs available in supermarkets (I live outside the centre, so I wouldn’t be visiting fancy coffee shops). Cheers!
