Leonard Hill

My incoming freshman was assigned a double in Leonard Hall.

Looking for honest impressions- noisy? Fun? Far from classes/dining? Thanks for any feedback from those who lived there.

Nothing is that far on Colby's campus honestly. Maybe going down to Olin/Bixler/Diamond would take max 10 mins walking from Leonard

Personally didn't live in Leonard, was in Williams, but all the hillside dorms are very similar. Built in the late 60's, concrete blocks with floor-to-ceiling windows in most dorms (bit of a brutalism aesthetic), easy walk to Dana dining hall and has some of the better parking options on campus. Likely a bit noisy because 60's architecture wasn't exactly built for soundproofing. No massive rooms so while there will certainly be parties/hangouts here, it's not on the list of "party dorms" IMO. Doubles are ideal, as there are also (or at least used to be) 1 room triples that can feel a bit like you're living on top of each other.

Living in hillside is a bit of a right of passage. Most folks do it one of their first 2 years. Take all the above with a grain of salt since I graduated well over a decade ago, but can't imagine things have changed too much

Leonard is part of hillside. Hillside doubles are usually pretty big with large windows, but they won’t be super nice. A lot of the rooms are great, but the hallways will be a bit cramped and maze-like. If you buy large pieces of furniture for the dorm room, I would recommend assembling them in the room, since it might be hard to fit them through the hallways. Hillside is all freshman and they always have a pretty good community, and they aren’t that far from anything on campus.

My student was in Hillside and like everyone said, it's not that far. Probably a little noisy. And bring air tight storage for food because she had a mouse problem. Otherwise fine!!
