Hey everyone! Welcome to the r/ColonyCats subreddit! This is a place for past, present, and prospective cat caretakers to learn more about how to better care for outdoor colonies of cats, kittens, and the communities they live in.

The term “colony cats” describes a group of outdoor cats living together. These cats may be feral, stray, or otherwise unsocialized to humans.

Please read through our community guidelines before posting or commenting, and again…welcome to the community! We're excited to have you join us!

WHAT TO POST:

Here, caretakers can feel free to ask for and offer advice, share TNR strategies, provide helpful tips and ideas for colony management, and share photos of their colony cats.

After reading the rules, you may post anything that you think the community would find interesting, helpful, or inspiring. Don’t hesitate to comment on posts, and share your thoughts, advice, or questions relevant to the topic of discussion.

THE CATS YOU CARE FOR MAY BE FERAL, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT BE:

We're all about being friendly, constructive, inclusive, and kind. Let's build a space where everyone feels comfortable sharing and connecting.

The vast majority of cat caretakers have pure intentions, and are trying their best to provide the best care possible for their colonies. Constructive criticism is ok (some people may need some guidance and it’s ok to provide that), but please refrain from rude, unhelpful comments, harsh judgments, shaming, and personal attacks.

Thanks for being part of this community and thank you for all you do to help the cats you care for. 🩶🐾🩵🐈‍⬛🫶🖤🐈💙

UPDATE on the Orange cat with severe maggots it was 3rd day of her treatment. The picture isn't predictable at all what's going to happen what not. 🆘🆘🚨🚨🚨

It's the 3rd day for her treatment and to be honest I don't know what to do at this point continue her treatment or euthanise as per multiple suggestions received from you all.

I do not support this my philosophy is to try till the end and rest is up to god that's why it's really impossible for me to go that way.

As Saturday Sunday my regular vet isn't available i had to visit a different private clinic now I'm visiting my vet .

All the maggots have been removed and she is under liquid diet and saline and drip only and the treatment is supposedly going to take atleast 2 weeks for her to show any amount of recovery.

For her respiratory issues nebulisation has been started.

I also contacted and reached out to The Feline foundation if they could admit her but they denied we have done a blood test it's result are yet to be come.

I am literally stretched out in a season like this where we have responsibilities of house aswell visiting wet multiple times for different cats under my cats and also Feline foundation is almost 17km away from my place itself is another hustle.

Amid this i couldn't take care of other babies under my responsibility that's another guilt there were two kittens i had found on footpath had made a post 4 days back for them...one is tabby and other is black and white mix .

Their treatment is also going on I cannot bring them to my place because of infection reasons they might fall in danger too.

If someone from Powai is up for adopting or even taking care of them it would be great help because I am not able to reach them all the time the other cats in my care are consuming all my time.

I'll provide the pictures and prescription for orange cat in the comments.

🐾 A Very Frightened Stray Cat Is Now Safe in My Colony

Rescuing this frightened stray cat was extremely difficult, especially because I don’t have proper trapping equipment. I managed to bring him into my colony with great difficulty.

He is still extremely afraid and does not come anywhere near me because of his intense fear of people. I’m giving him time and trying not to make him feel more stressed.

We found him in a worrying condition. He has severe diarrhea, severe dehydration, nasal discharge, and signs of poor nutrition. His condition requires prompt veterinary attention.

I will do everything I can to get him to a veterinarian as soon as possible and give him the care he needs.

For now, he is safe inside my colony. ❤️

If you would like to support this frightened little cat, please upvote, comment, and share this post as widely as possible. Your interaction can help more people see his story and may help him receive the attention and support he needs.

Thank you for caring about community cats. 🐱🐾

Good evening, my dear friends!🌼

I just received on 01/09/26 the food for the 130+ stray kittens of the port, which you offered with so much love and generosity.

I want to thank from the bottom of my heart all the friends of the group for opening your hearts and standing by the kittens. Your help is not just food. It is care, hope and a reminder that these little creatures are not alone.

The food that will be collected will only cover their needs for a few days. Then, the search for food will begin again, because their need never ends.

Another push for the vet bill… who’s with us today? Help us clear the tab. 🥺🙏🏼

Thank you to our community! However, we are sitting at $330 raised out of $1,500, leaving us with $1,170 left to cover our outstanding emergency vet expenses. Every single treatment relies on keeping our vet accounts open—when bills go unpaid, our ability to take in the next critical case is put on pause.

We are pushing hard to clear this accumulated balance so we can keep saving lives without interruption. We tried reaching out to local politicians for help, but none of them responded. Right now, our community truly is our only lifeline. Running a rescue means taking on the tough medical cases others walk away from, but our clinic cannot keep stretching their resources while our debt remains.

You don't need to make a huge donation to help. If just 117 supporters give $10 (or 58 give $20), our clinic balance is completely wiped out. That means zero debt holding back emergency care for the next animal who needs us.

💔 Leo needs a little help with his Amazon Wishlist

Leo is my little dumpster rescue who has been fighting ongoing diarrhea and Giardia for months. He has been to the vet multiple times and we’re still working through his digestive problems. Because of his condition, he needs special food and extra supplies, and unfortunately, keeping up with everything he needs has become really difficult.
I’m constantly cleaning up after him and going through food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other necessities much faster than normal. His special diet is also more expensive, and I have to be very careful about what he eats because I don’t want to make his stomach worse.
I’m doing everything I can for this little guy, but I’m a solo rescuer and also care for many community cats, so the expenses add up very quickly. ❤️
If anyone is able to help with even one item from Leo’s Amazon Wishlist, it would mean so much to us. Any contribution makes a difference and helps me keep taking care of him while I continue trying to get him healthy.
Thank you to everyone who has already helped Leo and supported. 🥺🐾❤️
If you prefer to donate a chewy gift card that will make it easier for me to buy him the food since it’s expensive and I know many people can’t afford that. I have a chewy wishlist because I’m a 501(c)(3) registered rescue.

Hi friends,

thanks so much to everyone who helped by sending us items from my Walmart wishlist posted on my last post…your kindness means a whole lot to me and my cats.

unfortunately, since the last time I posted, a new challenge has revealed itself. ROUNDWORMS.

at least one of the kittens (the fluffy grey boy) has roundworms for sure, but I’m almost certain that the other kittens all have them too, as they have been extremely lethargic the past few days.

because of this, I added some cleaning supplies and some other things I need (like a food storage container, to avoid ants getting into the kibble once a bag is opened, and some plastic totes that I use as litter boxes) to my wishlist. If anyone is able to help, I appreciate it so much.

I also added some dewormer, because I just cannot afford to take everyone to the vet, unfortunately. If you’d like to contribute to a vet fund, there are links on my page in the bio. the PayPal pool is best, but I’m not expecting any actual monetary donations. The supplies are incredibly helpful, and I’m beyond grateful for even the time it took you to read this.

Thank you.

I’m approved in r/rescuecats for verification
Leo went back to the vet and had more testing done because his diarrhea has been going on for months. Because of his problem, I go through so many supplies every day — puppy pads, paper towels, cleaning products, wipes, laundry detergent, litter, and everything needed to constantly clean and sanitize after him. It adds up quickly on top of all his vet expenses.

I also wanted to update everyone on Lucky, the older feral cat I rescued after finding him struggling near a dumpster. When I found him, I immediately noticed something was wrong with his eyes. He was extremely scared and feral, but I couldn’t leave him there.

Lucky was taken to the vet, where he was neutered, vaccinated, and tested. Unfortunately, he tested positive for both FIV and FeLV and also had entropion, where his eyelids were turning inward and his eyelashes were rubbing against his eyes. He needed surgery to correct it. Thankfully, he got it and it’s recovering.

Because Lucky is older, very feral, and FIV/FeLV positive, finding a safe placement for him has been extremely difficult. Thankfully, a sanctuary in Pine Island has agreed to take him. ❤️ I will personally transport Lucky there and I am raising funds for his sanctuary intake fee, transportation, and remaining expenses.

And while caring for Leo and Lucky, I’m still feeding 50+ community cats every single day and continuing TNR. The amount of food I go through is enormous.

If anyone can help with a small donation toward Leo’s testing and ongoing care, Lucky’s transport and sanctuary costs, and the community cats, it would mean so much. I’m a solo rescuer doing my best to keep the cats safe and cared for. ❤️🐾
I have included many of the vet bills that I have paid myself for rescued cats and emergencies for transparency.

Help save the last 16 of 40 cats rescued from hoarding situation in Grand Junction, CO

Thumbnail gofundme.com

I’m trying to help 16 cats (8 kittens + 8 adults) through a small foster effort called Calico Hearts, and we’ve hit a point where we can’t keep going without help.

A few of them:

Gus – injured eye after being attacked by other cats

Frankie – skin condition from inbreeding, needs treatment + neuter

Blondie – pregnant and urgently needs to be spayed

Our priority right now is spay/neuter + medical care so we can stop more litters, treat current issues, and get them adopted.

We’re not a funded rescue — everything so far has been out of pocket.

👉 Fundraiser:

Proof:

Photos + updates on the GoFundMe

Costs and care breakdown listed there

Can provide more photos/videos or vet info if needed

If you can’t donate, an upvote or share helps more than you’d think.

I’m Building a Rescue From the Ground Up — Until Then, Every Bag of Cat Food Truly Matters

Thumbnail

I know my Amazon and Walmart wishlists probably look extreme. I want to say right away that I do NOT expect anyone to buy everything on them. I keep different foods, litter, kitten supplies, carriers, cleaning supplies, and other necessities listed because the needs change constantly. I am truly grateful for ANYTHING that is sent.
I also want to say how incredibly blessed I feel by the support I have already received from people in this community. Some of you have helped me more than once, shared my posts, sent food, or simply encouraged me to keep going. I don’t take any of it for granted.
Cat rescue has become a huge part of my life. I work around 50 hours a week for very little money, and outside of work I spend so much of my time feeding community cats, trapping for TNR, transporting cats, taking sick or injured cats to the vet, helping with kittens, finding fosters and homes, and helping other people in my community who are trying to care for cats they cannot afford.
We have very little help in my area of Somerset Kentucky, I am working on getting my 501(c)(3) established because I want to build something that can continue helping these cats long-term.
TNR alone requires us to travel long distances because affordable services aren’t available close to us. I have made trips to Lexington and Bowling Green, both around 1 hour and 45 minutes each way, and even Cincinnati when necessary. In August alone, we were able to get 15 community cats fixed, and we already have more scheduled.
Then there are the emergencies that never seem to stop. Sick kittens. Injured cats. Testing. Medications. Follow-up appointments. Cats needing dental care. Cats dumped outside with nowhere else to go. I have raised money toward many of these vet bills, but I have also covered a lot of the expenses myself when donations weren’t enough because sometimes there simply isn’t time to wait.
Food is honestly one of my biggest worries. Without the cat food donations I receive, I genuinely don’t know how I would keep all of these community cats fed. There are too many depending on me every single day.
I am also linking my Facebook because I don’t want anyone to simply take my word for what I do. Please look. Scroll through my posts. You will see the cats, the TNR trips, the vet visits, the kittens, the fosters, the food going out into the community, and the people and animals we try to help. I want everyone who supports me to know where their kindness goes.

Amazon Wishlist: Check out this Gift List I just created. https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/1IX77G4PTB5I9?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_ggr-subnav-share_RVH3NN5JMH89Z2HC9TKS&language=en-US

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/1C5KnLLBGe/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Please never feel like you have to spend a lot. A case of wet food, a bag of dry food, litter, kitten food, or even sharing this post helps more than you probably realize.
The need right now is urgent, but more than anything, I am grateful. I could not continue doing this at the level I do without people willing to help these cats alongside me.
Thank you for believing that these little lives are worth fighting for. ❤️

If you would like to donate an Electronic Chewy giftcard, my email is CynLMason@gmail.com

I am posting a wishlist so that I can revamp the garage for the outside colony.  Yes, they are being TNRed through Kim via Triple R Rescue and through Naws Mokena. My money has been going to pay for some of these appointments and to soon be getting the kittens fixed.  I am creating an oasis for them in my backyard so they they are safe, fed, and cared for.  People can be mean to animals and wildlife out here, so I have done everything in my power that they know, this is sanctuary.   Anything off of either list would be a huge help and would be greatly appreciated.

For the Walmart wishlist, I have Walmart gift card because I can add them up to get a couple of those towers, that wicker one would hold up in the garage!

For Amazon,  Chewy gift card would add up to also help get the food center and tower.   Anything from that list is beyond appreciated.

I also want it to be known that we help those who have a bad month with food and litter items. We all have been there, and i posted a batch i brought over to distribute. All cats deserve to be fixed and have homes, they are not luxuries, we are to look out for them!

Please know how grateful the floofaloofs and I to all of you that have helped and continue to help.  It means more to us than we will ever be able to articulate.

Thank you for all that you do for Floofaloofkind. ♡ You all are truly the good in this world♡

(I'm gonna be honest, the donut, water fountain, and blankets on the list would be a huge help too, or a cheaper tower or gift card for one on the Walmart list. I appreciate everyone and I promise im not trying to be selfish. Those are just non food items that'd be a big help)
