There’s something about Columbo’s whole style that makes this line instantly recognizable. The calm delivery, the casual questions, and then that little follow-up that changes everything. What’s your favorite Columbo moment?

This is "Furuhata Ninzaburo" often called the Japanese Columbo because of the incredible amount of similarities and easter eggs and homages in every show.

It would have been great to have seen Falk standing and saying something profound but funny before every episode giving it a little introduction, what do you think?

There is a Youtube parody which I highly recommend if you love Columbo and Deathnote. Whoever created it is clearly a fan of both.

How do you think Columbo would defeat Kira if tasked with the case?

Elliot is offered a new identity by the gov’t, which I can see the benefit of for a con man like him. But what do you think he would do once they took him away and “owned” him? Was he gonna keep pretending to be psychic (how long could he keep it up without risking another partner to lie for him?)

Would he become a teacher of sorts - a guru to a bunch of ESP wannabes?

To me it seems like a different kind of prison.

Now it’s time for arguably the most popular killer from the most popular episode, Wayne Jennings! Rate his plan and execution, but make it quick… he’s feeling a bit faint. Same rules as always!

I've posted this in other forums before and thought it would fit here. I am almost done watching all 60+ episodes of Columbo, and stand by my position since episode 5, that he's not human. The way he locks in on a suspect, the furtive way he moves around the room, it's like he's an eldritch arachnid being wearing a rumpled skinsuit. It would explain the few times he got angry. He was "molting" and shedding his exoskeleton, limbs growing underneath is coat, causing agony.

Also, the man is a stalker, worse than Freddy, Jason, Michael and and Chucky combined. Instead of brutally murdering the killers, he's psychollogically tortures them (that probably makes them more tasty to the arachnid Mrs Columbo), pretending to be a shambling old man, showing up at impossible places, or when the killer looks out the window, Columbo looks up at them from the shadows and waves. This happens a LOT.

It makes me wonder if the true ending we don't see is Mrs Columbo coming in to feed once the killer has been driven mad by the mannequins of death and Columbos incessant trolling. Of course by the end of his case, he goes home to where he sleeps in the loving cacoon of Mrs Columbo.

Edit: Forgot to add that he was written as a manifestation of justice. He "comes from nowhere and returns to nowhere."

Just watched this again. Two things struck me. First, when Abigail was at the pier with the keys, why give them to Columbo? Just take another opportunity to toss them away later. Also at the end Columbo gives her the incriminating paper. When she read it, my first thought was, why didn’t she just eat it immediately? Sounds silly but it was the only solid piece of evidence and I doubt Columbo could have stopped her.

I don't know if any of you has ever read The Exorcist novel, but the detective Kinderman reminded me of Columbo a whole lot. The book was published in 1971, it might just be a coincidence but Kinderman acts like Columbo acts, asking for the actress' signature, the "one more thing" shtick and always thinking he's bothering... Have these similarities ever been discussed before? 🧐

I like this episode, Columbo Goes to the Guillotine. Its also funny when watching the kid in the magic shop do the trick for Columbo. Lifts the other half of the pack too high, giving the camera full view of the card underneath, ANOTHER ace of diamonds.

We're all familiar with the typical formula of the killer being pretty self-satisfied and confident in their abilities to fool the authorities and not taking Columbo himself especially seriously at first.

But what are some instances where, either explicitly or at least from your own personal reading, the killer was immediately fearful and suspicious of Columbo's true nature?

Just added another new episode guide and this week it's "Columbo and the Murder of a Rock Star", though the only real rock star in the episode isn't the person who got murdered.

One of the things I love about the show Columbo are the scenes where you get to learn about the character Columbo. I love how they are willing to spend time on him as a character. Often times without advancing the plot at all. Think of the state police car inspection scene in "Candidate for Crime". Five minutes or so with absolutely no plot advancement. (Something they would never do these days where a show has to be all action). How the show is about him, his investigation style, his quirks. And how he's a brilliant detective, but no one fawns over him.

So with the that in mind, **what is your favorite Columbo as a character scene?** A scene where we just get to learn about him as a character.

For me it's the scene from "An Exercise in Fatality" when Columbo goes to the HR department of Tri-Con to get phone number of Louis Lacey. A simple request in his mind. But then has to impatiently wait for the teletype of the "Tri-Con Delta 214" to complete. His mannerisms are so insightful to him as a character. No way in modern TV would they spend five minutes on a character just getting a phone number. Or the character saying "I just need his phone number". And "it's done", only for the HR rep to say "not yet" and the machine to start printing again. It's very subtle humor. But more importantly, an insight into the character. One of my favorite scenes in the entire series of Columbo being Columbo. What's yours?

It's a standard part of the show that the smartypants killer underestimates the disheveled detective, but I just watched Columbo Goes To College — in which the killers are constantly laughing at him behind his back, thinking that he's such a dolt while handing him false leads, and the snobbish, condescending parents are openly complaining about his ineptitude (while he happily plays along) — and it got me wondering:

What's the worst case of someone underestimating Columbo, mocking him, or thinking he's really stupid?
