Something I keep noticing about college: almost everything runs on chaos.

We find out about a society's recruitment after it closes. There's a good event two colleges away and you hear about it the day after. You want to connect with students outside your campus and there's just... no way to, unless you already know someone or getting connected with people on LinkedIn and waiting to get accepted or getting into their DMs without knowing them. Chasing sponsors for a fest means cold emails and last year's team's contacts.
Everything lives in group forwards and Insta stories that vanish in 24 hr and word of mouth.

Are these a real problems at your college, or does yours handle it fine? And what would you add to the list?

I recently moved to California and I’m attending Bakersfield College. I’m trying to enroll for Fall 2026 and play football, but I’m currently being classified as an out of state student.

Admissions & Records told me that because I haven’t been physically present in California for one year and one day yet, I may not qualify for California resident tuition under the normal residency rules.

However, they also told me to contact Athletics/Coach Thompson because I’m trying to become a student athlete and said there may be another process I need to look into.

I’ve already contacted the football coach and Athletics, but I haven’t been able to get a clear answer yet.

Has anyone who recently moved to California dealt with something similar at a California community college?

Specifically:

1. Is there any exemption or special process that can allow someone who hasn’t been in California for a full year and a day to avoid nonresident tuition?
2. Does being a community college student athlete have any effect on this?
3. If you were in a similar situation, what office or person actually helped you resolve it?

I’m trying to figure this out before registering for classes because I don’t want to accidentally register and become responsible for a huge nonresident tuition bill.

I started college in the spring and I now just started my fall semester and I’m majoring in medical laboratory technology. Last semester I took easier classes as I wanted to get a feel of college first and it wasn’t exactly easy but nowhere near as hard as these past 4 days. This semester I’m taking chemistry and another easier class because I was warned of how hard chemistry was, I knew it was going to be hard but I was not prepared for this week. In the past three days alone (this is kind of embarrassing) I cried for the three days straight, almost had two panic attacks, didn’t eat for a whole day, and anytime I would try to take a break I would be thinking about studying chemistry with a pit in my stomach. I was in my second class yesterday thinking about chemistry and I wanted to cry. I HATE feeling like this, obviously I don’t handle stress well at all (I already have problems with anxiety). My sister (who is about to be a paramedic) took chemistry, something to do with biology and a&p her FIRST semester of school and made straight A’s, she told me she cried all the time (I don’t know how she did this obviously she’s very strong minded). There are some people who can handle that but I just can’t and if I continue in my major which is filled with nothing but science classes and labs (a&p, hematology, clinical chemistry etc.) this is what it’s going to be and I know that college isn’t supposed to be easy but I can’t handle this. Maybe I’m just not in the right space right now to accomplish this and I can try again later now that I know how it is, but I can’t think about it without getting nauseous. Yesterday was the first time I’ve ever felt genuinely defeated because I gave up and I stopped studying, I felt so much relief. I think I want to change my major but I don’t know what to do, I thought MLT would be very cool but I can’t handle the science, I felt yesterday that I just want a normal job that I can get paid decently, I don’t care anymore about making a great amount of money, I just want to be happy and live decently, this past week was HORRIBLE. What do yall think I should do? I’m not quitting college because I loved last semester. Should I try again a different semester? My parents want me in college but there was nothing else I was interested in except for this, the only other major that kept catching my eye was journalism (I was recommended in high school to do it), but that won’t make me decent money. If you have any majors that pay decently and doesn’t almost kill someone with stress, please recommend. Thank you for listening to this dump.

How is this playing out at your college?

I'm both horrified and hopping mad about the new Perkins rules [https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/us-department-of-education-ends-taxpayer-subsidization-of-postsecondary-education-illegal-aliens].

Under the new rules, equipment purchased for CTE programs with Perkins funds can only be used by US citizens. Meaning, if there are undocumented students in a program they can't use the same equipment as the other students. For example, if you teach in an additive manufacturing program and get a fancy new 3D printer using Perkins funds, any undocumented students in your program can't use it. A new electric car diagnostic computer for an auto tech program purchased using Perkins funds? Undocumented students can't use it. New nursing simulation manikin purchased using Perkins funds? Undocumented students can't use it. Farm tractor driving simulator purchased using Perkins funds? Undocumented students can't use it.

How the hell am I supposed to know and why should I care which students are undocumented? My college doesn't even collect this information. How am I supposed to prevent undocumented students from using this equipment? Should I paint a yellow star on it? How about hanging a white christian nationalists only sign on it? What am I supposed to do if I catch an undocumented student using the forbidden equipment? Call ICE?! What the f- happened to never again?

This is horrific! An abomination!

please advise how to pay college fees...credit card ? how to obtain discounts etc

I (18F) am going to a community college. This has been a plan that both me and my dad have created because it would be the best financially because I would be paying for my schooling. This plan is working because I’m very glad for my first year I’ll won’t be paying a thing in tuition with scholarships and Pell grant, but I feel I’m missing out.

While I will be transferring to a university with my credits and planning on dorming there, my friends have recently moved into their dorms and they are already partying. They have started the next step in their lives, and I feel like me basically being a junior or senior in a dorm will take away from the fun of being a freshman/freshman experience (If that makes sense).

I’m so scared that I’ll be missing out on parties and socializing. I already struggle with socializing anyways, and I feel going to a community college will impact my ability to find people my age to make friends with.

Is it valid for me to have this anxiety/fear? And if anyone has any advice on this situation or has been in a similar situation, I would love to know how it has impacted you.

Hello! Im 16 and im going to start community College soon to start my nursing school prerequisites. I dont really have friends from high school because I was always focused on graduating early and getting good grades so I was curious if community College was a good place to make friends. I heard that it will be harder to make friends than a 4 year because no dorms and the different ages but im just hoping that I make some. Any comments or wtv help thx!

I'm about to start my first year of cc and It automatically added a pre req for both literature and college algebra, is that normal or is it just what I supposedly need? & do those count as credits or will I be behind at the end of the semester?

University Accuplacer exam. My first attempt, I got a 262, then on the third try I got a 275, one point less than the math that I wanted to place in, which is calculus. Then, after some weeks, I got a 262 again. I just need a 276 and above. So far, I've been doing practice tests online and answering them, but I still feel like I'm learning nothing new to fix my score. Any tips?
