Help, I am new to cEDH! CEDH Question? Oppression
Why isn't [[Oppression]] played to counter mass card draw? Is there a deck that could play it and benefit from it?

There's a lot of graveyard decks in the format, and in big stack battles you'll respond to the triggers and then either win or have 3 players with no hand giving the game to player 4.
It's also symmetrical, which isn't ideal at all.

I play Gitrog. PLEASE let me discard things from my hand.

Is it worth running in gitrog?

I do run [[Chains of Mephistopheles]] though, which is does something similar and is a whole lot better.

No, not really, because then I risk letting my opponents gain tremendous value

Chains is a better card for it. You can do some insane things with gitrog out, chains, six or icetill.
Chains also hammers slop decks that aren't on breach lines.

3 mana to help your opponents bin stuff to feed breach or other combos even better? Great idea. Also doesn't actually stop anyone from drawing loads of cards. 15cards in hand from people feeding fish or rhystic, they do not care about discarding a land to counter something else.

I'll raise you [[suppress]] and even that doesn't stop them lol

It maybe does Something but you could also play a piece that doesnt allows them to cast spells

Oppression doesnt counter mass card draw. Mass card draw can easily afford to discard cards. It counters spellnslinger/storm that lacks card draw AND doesnt want to play with the graveyard, which to my knowledge isnt common.

Stax can harm you more than it hurts, especially when it turns off opponents' interaction, a category this can easily fall into. This also costs 3 and is worse than chains of meph, which is already kinda meh.

I play it in Kroxa alongside Chains. Biggest flaw will always be the feeding of breach and there not being a ton ton of good options to stop breach in Rakdos. I’ve got a Vexing Bauble that kinda stings, but it’s tough seas beyond that as you are likely also a graveyard deck.

the rhystic player still draws cards lol. with 15 cards in hand, having to discard something is pretty meaningless. [[chains of mephistopheles]] is just better and even then it barely sees play outside of tayam (and even then it’s up for debate)
if you wanna stop the slop, the best you can do is either run dedicated draw hate like [[spirit of the labyrinth]] or effects like [[rule of law]] to stop people from feeding in the first place. what you really have to think about, however, is strategy. your deck should either be able to join the slop, win before the slop happens or go under the slop. trying to stop the slop is only gonna lead to pain (trust me, ive tried)
i understand the urge to try and tech against the most popular strategy, but the reality is that rhystic is just a broken card and if wotc cared about cedh they’d ban it and at least 5 other cards. it’s like trying to fight against combo winter back in the 90s

Half of a big number is still more than half of a small number minus 1 for playing the Oppression. The way to stop the decks that are mulling into turn 1 rhystics and fish is to put more wins on the stack.

Symmetrically hurting everyone but targeting towards slop/value decks never work. Too many other decks that are going to run you over while you are targeting someone else (hate on turbo, lose to Sisay/kinnan)

I play 5C [[Terra, Magical Adept]] and am willing to cast her just to get 4-5 cards in my grave off her ETB. You'd be my best friend at the table spending 3 mana to do nothing but feed my breach

Okay, this is getting a lot of hate, but I implore you to try it.
This does effectively make players who are trying to interact with you forced to give up resources. This makes cards like force of will/negation worse, wins become harder to accumulate into, and it does feed breach lines, but that works in your favor as well. Furthermore, in reanimator, this also works to feed your own bin.
If your decks wants this card for itself it could potentially be good.

Is there a reanimator/breech list in the format focused around enchantments? If there is a deck that could copy and reanimate tithe and rystic, and then reanimate this, that would be cool.

There’s [[master of keys]], who is fringe but has some dedicated pilots who are putting up decent results. He unfortunately doesn’t have red for breach but still in the colors for tithe and rhystic/mystic, and there is always praetor’s grasp to try and steal a breach. And of course he himself is an enchantment only breach. Most other graveyard focused decks aren’t focused on recurring enchantments

Mass card draw players still draw more cards
