General Discussion / Question Rogsi question

Newer to Rogsi. I seem to be struggling a bit with Necro dominance as a card. Everyone I have talked to about this deck says that it is one of the best cards in this deck. I guess I’m struggling with understanding. What is the wind condition when Necro dominance is in play? Ru mainly just looking for a win with thassas oracle since it kind of shuts off underworld breach lines?

Necropotence is way better than Necrodominance

Necrodominance is way better than no Necro at all

Basically doubles your chance to hit an early Necro in your mulligans

[[Beseech the mirror]] is a great way to get rid of it, and the restriction does not outweigh how good it is to have redundancy on necro/noz effects

Draw 32 cards, Find borne or VFC, Bounce or Mirror the necro, win in end step.

How do you get priority back in end step with dominance? Don’t you just move to cleanup after resolving the draws and have to discard ?

there is always a full round of priority before a turn ends the active player is of course included in that

Forgive my ignorance —

I thought in end step things work a bit differently. Once in end step, you can respond to triggers, but once they have resolved and the stack is “empty” you don’t get a round of priority, you move to cleanup. This is why necropotence is so much better, each trigger is individual so you can respond to the trigger to exile. Necrodom doesn’t have this so you wouldn’t get a round of priority. Am I missing something here ?

Clean-up can trigger stuff :)

That's one of the very important rules in a gitrog deck for instance : you have to discard to 7, so you discard dakmor -> trigger gitrog -> replacement effect of dakmor -> dredge 3, put dakmor in hand, still at 8 cards -> have to discard; rince and repeat.

Here how it goes : end step; you have the necrodom trigger. You pay 28 life, draw that many cards (beware the bowmaster). You now have more than 7 in hands and need to discard -> you respond by casting borne upon a wind, then thoracle and demonic consultation, GG.

Oh wait so discarding triggers priority pre- discard? I thought that was a game state thing not something you could respond to 👀. Am I understanding that right ?

I always thought clean up discard was game state so you can’t respond, and there’s no trigger to give you priority there so the stack is “empty” and turn ends

Well. You can't respond to clean up step, but what happens during clean up step can trigger stuff, see my gitrog example.

In this case tho, it's different. Necrodom triggers at end step. You're always authorized to respond to end step, many players will go "on your end step, I cast this" (or crack a fetch etc). Once you've drawn you will move to clean up, and have to discard, but you may cast instants before that, as you're still on the first part of your end step.

It's a trigger at the beginning of your end step, you'll get priority after that

During the end step, effects that trigger at the beginning of end step are put on the stack. Then, each player gets priority. Then when the stack is empty the active player gets priority.

As others have said, we have enough card quality in the deck for the restriction to just not matter. Whether you’re bouncing it first with chain then bouncing your rocks, or you’re beseeching it away. It’s RogSi, if you draw 30, you’re winning the game.

eg: I had a game a few weeks ago with a turn 1 necrodom and my opponent had cabbage merchant and grinding station. So every spell I cast was 3 cards into exile. Still found a way to win on the end step without borne, praetors, or mnemonic betrayal.

I’ve seen lists that don’t run it do well so it’s cuttable

It’s a Necropotence with an extra step, you have to bounce it or bargain it with Beseech or win with Thoracle, that’s all there is to it

For me it’s a math thing. Likelihood of converting Necropotence > likelihood of converting Necrodominance > likelihood of converting with neither (unless we have AdNaus or Rhystic)

Even if we don’t get there with Necrodom we would be more likely to have gotten there with it than with any other card that’s not Naus, Necropotence or Rhystic

The question I have would be what are you cutting it for. I’ve seen lists play The One Ring over it but that’s more of a midrange pivot than a substitute

A "fixed" version of an insane card can still be an insane card.

Or just sac it to Braids. ;)

Do the normal borne/final fortune thing. Then your options are sacrifice to beseech, bounce with chain, or thoracle.

I don’t run Necrodominance in my list as a lot of other top lists don’t either. If it’s not for you don’t feel like you have to run it.

This goes for Necropotence, yes.
But notably NOT for Necrodominance, because it’s not a trigger, it’s a replacement effect.

necropotence works this way but necrodominance does not
