Loft building Cornmarket

Post image
56 Upvotes

I noticed that the Loft (furniture store) building on Cornmarket Street is currently up for sale, or possibly already sold. Would anyone know whether its façade is on the protected structures list, meaning it would have to be retained no matter what goes in there? Just wondering, as it’s a really nice front and it would be a pity if it disappeared. Thanks!

Fair coloured greyhound with a brown leather collar. Was walking out towards Sacred Heart and I'd say will likely go out Lee road direction from how skittish it was.

Cork City Bike shop scam | Cork Bicycle Zone @ A to Z Shop

Had a horrible experience last week. This dude takes advantage of the Irish people kind heart's. My girlfriend brought her bike because of a broken chain. The chain broke again the next day after fixing. Brought it again and the same happened after one day. Then the guy decides without asking to mount a whole new wheel with a new cassette and becomes extremely angry when she asks why was the reason to do it. The fellah starts bringing up religion, starts changing topic and acting crazy, lies saying Shimano is 1# in the world 😂. In the end she pays 125e, he keeps the carbon wheel from her 2k bike. 2 days later, same problem shows up, bike not fixed. I show up and he starts changing topic and offering options to buy a new bike. The dude is extremely sexist and refers to women without respect, he wasn't even looking at her eyes trying to convince me when I went there. He only talked about his religion not allowing him to lie or act badly. What he does is HARAM and he will face the consecuences in the afterlife. DONT GO THERE! Review bombing deserved.

Local Businesses Alloy Wheel Refurb?

Hello bais and byors, have ye any experience with having alloys refurbished? And can ye recommend somewhere around the city or East Cork?

I'm looking to get mine done as they're badly kerb rashed with a few deep scratches. They're the original wheels of an old Merc I bought last year so I'd prefer not to replace them.

I'm not looking for a miracle (tbh I don't even know what's possible or what to expect) and I don't expect them restored to factory finish.

I just want them smartened up a bit for a reasonable price and with the knowledge that the wheels or the car won't be damaged.

Car Broke Down 👎🏻

Hi,

Not from Cork and our land over discovery sport broke down, no surprise there.

Was towed tonight to Ardfallen towings yard.

Need to find a garage to repair it, might be the clutch slave cylinder gone.

Can anyone recommend a good garage to repair it during our holiday?

Local Help me remember this recurring sketch on a show on RTE about 14 years ago

I have a vague recollection of a recurring skit on a show that featured two Cork based characters, I'm sure it was a daughter and her mother and they were perpetual dole heads.

Always wearing bathrobes and smoking, I'm sure it was around 2012 because I remember people talking about it when I first left school.

I've not much other details but hopefully I'm not just schizoposting into the void

Cork County Leap Card capping on Irish Rail for Cork

Every time I take the train to Cobh, Mallow or Midleton from Cork city and use a Leap card, it triggers the “capping” part in my Leap app, and I am never charged over 6 euros per day - it doesn’t work when I board a Cork bus, just a train. It is also written I have a capping at 24 euros per week, and I can see the amount progressing in the app over the week (but I never needed to do 4 returns in the week so I never tried it out).

I was trying to find the price conditions online and I can’t find anything! It says in various official sources that there is no Leap capping for Cork trains, and the weekly/monthly passes are way more expensive than 6/24 euros.

The Leap capping seems only applicable to buses in Cork, and these are not the prices. 6/24 seems to be Dublin capping, but I am getting it in Cork.

I am very confused because I can definitely see the 6 euros thing in my card history, so I am not misremembering.

Does anyone know more about that and where I could find an explanation for these prices?

Oliver Plunkett Street Assaults

Saw the CCTV 7 minute video (from I think JJ Walsh’s) of that TikTok loving lunatic on Oliver Plunkett street from the other day. Don’t think it was posted to this subreddit already as I’ve only seen videos people took on their phones.
Jesus Christ something absolutely has to be done about him, in the 7 minutes he physically assaulted 6 or more people, hurled abuse at countless people and threw about pint glasses, stools and tables. Middle of the day on one of Corks busiest streets with kids, elderly people etc trying to go about their day.
I don’t know much about his past, it’s clear he has a drug problem and mental health issues but if a judge sees that 7 minute video off the back of his multiple other convictions and doesn’t lock him up for a long time then something very wrong with our country.
Sorry for the moan and yet another post about him but that video is absolutely shocking. Haven’t posted as not if mods would allow it as it’s fairly rough to watch but if mods give me the all clear I can post it in the comments.

Cork City Getting full fibre WiFi in the city centre?

Upvotes

Hello I’ve been trying to get FTTH in the city centre and it keeps getting rejected. Does anyone know of any places that can actually recieve fibre that you can rent or how to get it installed?

I put in an application with Vodafone and then about 3 weeks later they said engineers reviewed and there is no Fibre cabling nearby so they have to cancel the order. I find this bizarre as I’m right in city centre.

Any help appreciated.

Overnight Kent/Bus/✈️

Another Cork question. 😘

I fly into Cork Airport at a few minutes after midnight. Train from Kent at 6:00 am Saturday morning. But both bus & train stations are closed over night.

Thought i'd try a hostel but they don't have checkin past 11 pm. 😣

Is the 5:30 am #226 bus from the Airport that gets me to Kent Station 10 mins before the train dependable?? Looks like overnight at airport is allowed.

I have NO BAGGAGE.

Worst part about this is today I turn 66! But of course don't have my free travel pass in hand yet. 🤣 Darn it! (NO ONE has been more excited to turn 66 than me! Road trip!)

Thx

Susan

Local Businesses T Shirt Printing

Does anyone know of a company in Cork, ideally around the city, that can do very quick (before Friday) t-shirt printing (image and some text on the back and front)?

Most of the companies I can find on Google lead to very undetailed or outdated looking sites so some real life tip offs would be great!

Local A new pedestrian connection to Tramore valley park

Well done to SF for pushing this
I think a new entrance to TVP would be great, it’s a missing link

This would connect a huge, young population and the route would be flat.
Phase 2 I would improve the Togher river greenway and connect to Dunnes bandon road
Phase 3 I would connect Dunnes bandon road to the curaheen greenway and MTU
Phase 4 I would connect Douglas to Hartys quay.
So at the end there would then get a super urban greenway connecting Passage West to MTU.
This would surely be a good thing? Right!!!?

All of these plans depend on a new access point from kinsale road to TVP

Surgeon & clinic recommendations for rhinoplasty

Hi I’m new to cork, but would love to start consulting with different doctors about rhinoplasty. Not looking into nose filler. I’ll need decent recommendations please as I want to get quotes and meet them in person to feel as if I can trust them. :)

Physio Ballincollig or West Side of City

Crocked at the min ...assymetries top to bottom....had a lot of success before living elsewhere with physio's that don't hold back and put me on a training regime of circuits and compound exercises improving functional movement rather than just addressing the direct cause. Proper workout stuff...quick consultation every session here's you next routine ...here's how you do them approach..almost like a personal trainer.

Function physio on Penrose quay sounds like what i am looking for ...but it's a bit of a trek to get in.

Is there anywhere else closer around Ballincollig area that take the same approach.
