Discussion What would you throw?
Opponent's crib.
Our points were around 50 and I was down about 4 points.
I ended up tossing the A-spades and 6-Clubs .
Consequently or not, my wife skunked me this game..

That A-6 was a poor choice. You kept 4 points in your hand (Flush) and you gave points away. Keeping 4,5,6 at the least gave you 5 points, a 15-2 and a run of 3.
One of the first rules of cribbage is to keep the most points possible in your hand.
You had 5 points, possibly 6 if you threw the A,A. Next, think about the cut card. At best with your flush you might've gotten the 3 of diamonds to add one more point to your flush (a run of 3) along with the extra flush point, so 2 points at best. If the 8 of Diamonds came up you'd get 2 more from the 15-2, so 3 points max with another diamond on the cut. The 6 of diamonds I guess is possibly out there, so that would represent the best cut at a run of 4 plus the extra diamond in the flush and a 15-2, that card would be worth 7 extra points.
However conversely, any cut of 4,5,6 gives you a double run and increases the point value of your hand 100%. If you kept the A and threw A,7 any face card would give you 4 more points (two 15-2s) and there's more face-cards in the deck so more probable to be cut. If you kept the 4,5,6,7, a 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 all help your hand and give you the same or more points than the best diamond cut card excepting for maybe that 6D, but then again you're looking for one specific cut-card versus any of these other cards in which any suit will do.

Throwing AA is described as getting 6 points. True, but it's throwing 2 points for a net if 4; hence why many recommend A7 off suit for 5 points.

I would throw AA without analyzing it.

Agreed. If I'm sitting with a run of 4, I'm thinking that there are 4 cards that can give me the double run for a minimum of 12 points. If a 4, 5, 0r 6 is cut, then another 2 points for a total of 14. If a 3 or 8 is cut, it's a run of 5 and two 15's.
I throw both aces without even thinking about it.

Agreed, however wouldn't there be 12 cards that could do a double run? 4 numbers 3 times? I am new (ish) to crib.

Yes. I guess I was just meaning that there are 4 numbers out there that will give double runs. My bad. Thanks for catching it.
I had surgery last week, so I'm gonna blame it on Anesthesia Brain! ha ha ha

Keep the 4/5/6 and an Ace. That should let you get at least two more points in hand and still put you good for pegging. And doesn't give your opponent anythign great.
Also keep the 90$ I'll be sending you as soon as you mail me your board.

my brain does not work well with anazyling 2 dozen options in short period of time. I would toss the 2 aces.

2-player game.
Red and blue pegs are keeping score. Orange and yellow are tallying wins.

7/A off. I get it, you see the flush, it looks like a safe out from a weird hand. It just, as everyone is saying and I'm sure you now realize, isn't as many points.

If you tossed A6 then yes, I can see why you got skunked. You turned 5 points alone with 4-5-6 with a load of potential into 4 points with almost no outs.
The play here is A7 their crib, AA your crib,

Best overall move for most situations is 7-A off suit. You donāt directly give the other player points, but you are giving them good cards for a crib.
The next best is AA, hoping for the big payoff of flipping a 4-5-6 or 7. I would do this if I was near the skunk line or close at the end of the game needing more than 6 points.
All cribbage advice is situational.

The flush is tempting to keep as that's at least 4 points with a, but if you keep 4-5-6 that's 5 points right there, with plenty of potential for more (any 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, or face card will add points - Approximately 80% of the deck will add points - well, closer to 67% because you already have some cards), so...
Your crib - I'd toss the pair of aces.
Opponent's crib - I'd maybe toss the 7-A, off-suite.
Though I personally don't like putting 6, 7, 8, or 9 in any opponent's crib (to much potential), so I might toss the aces here also, but an ace can also be handy for pegging when kept.

Throw the aces. Any card that turns besides an A will enhance that already decent hand. The fact that you have 2Aās means thereās a low chance one will be turned.

Toss the aces, you keep a 15 and a run of 4, and you have a better chance at a double run and additional fifteens.

Even for oppo's box chucking the As feels like a no-brainer here. So many ways that hand can improve on the turn, and can peg.

4-5-6 is valuable to keep and one A gives you another 15 if a 10 hits.
