why is my hair knotting at my root and why does my hair not last anymore

my hair WAS NOT like this before, i have no idea what’s going on. i was rlly excited because ive moved back home temporarily and was thinking i could make my hair healthy again like it used to be, i dont know if it’s my routine or hormones. ugh anyways that’s the overarching issue but my

MAIN ISSUE right now is: my hair keeps getting all knotted and super frizzy at my roots and the curls on my top layers don’t last as long as they used to. i’m also losing a lot of hair right now (im assuming it’s the whole hormonal body and second puberty thing) so is that part of it?

i used to use dry shampoo when my roots would get greasy (as i’ve been losing hair, my roots have been getting greasier and greasier so i would use dry shampoo every now and then). i used to use dry shampoo more frequently before i moved, but i very rarely use it anymore.

any help would be greatly appreciated, im struggling to figure out my hair again :)

Advice Needed why is my hair still so dry

Post image

  1. i have chi aloe vera detangler conditioner and L'Oreal elige halyaluron plump shampoo that I use once a week. Maybe I should try a clarifying shampoo because I still haven't

2.I use cantu shea butter curling mousse.

  1. Always air dry. I have a diffuser but idk whether to use it. I also refresh my curls everyday or trying with water but it doesn't really change anything.
  2. I wear a bonnet loose. I haven't cut my hair in 7 months and IDK what I would get. Probably a wolffs cutt

This has minimized my issues but it's still sort of screwed up and I don't really know why. Maybe I have hard water and I still hvaen't really tried a clarifier, maybe I am not scrunching correctly. I've been like this for years and maybe I just need to cut my hair over again for the second time already after growing it out for another 2 years.

Advice Needed Need styling advice

Hey,

Just got a fresh cut & the stylist styled it using a sea salt spray & a diffuser. I love how it turned out but I’m a total beginner when it comes to styling this texture.

Could you guys help me out with a few things?
Hair Type: Based on how it looks here, what hair type or wave pattern do you think I have?
Products: What are the best sea salt sprays, lightweight mousses or heat protectants to recreate this look?

Discussion Do I lose too much hair?

I have fine curly hair (2b), medium length and this is how much hair I lost after washing it (I wash it every 4 days). Is it normal? I only comb it before washing and the amount of hair I lose when combing is waaay smaller.

My hair is curly and anytime I go out.. the wind completely ruins it and it ruins my days. My hair goes up completely and it's so noticeable.

I use Conditioner for my hair (brand name: bc bonacure) and (product line: moisture kick conditioner glycerol)

I let my hair just dry naturally.

No other products.

Seeking advice- is my hair damaged or does it possibly have some curl to it?

Ive been treating my hair as straight my entire life. Its frizzy, tangles so easily and is like the damn Sahara desert no matter what i do. I double cleanse, use lamellar treatments 2-3x a week, deep conditioning masks once a week, and condition for 5 mins minimum in shower, in conjunction with leave in conditioners, detanglers, oils and shine serums. I use the hydrate pureology line and have seen a small difference in terms of manageability and moisture, but nobody matter what i do it poofs right up after about 30 mins or right when brushed.

Photo posted is fully dry 2 hours out of the shower. I brushed when wet, not when dry yet.

ETA- I have previously bleached my hair. About 2 years ago. I now dye my roots black when needed.

Advice Needed What do you think my hair pattern is and what do i need to do for it to look better?

I don’t really go out with my natural hair I blow dry it most of the time and when I don’t blow dry it I put it up in a hair clip or french braids
I think my natural hair is abit wavy with some curls but I don’t know what pattern it is and what I’m supposed to do so it looks more put together and feel less messy
I want to go out with my natural hair but when it looks like this it doesn’t look good and I’m not sure what I can do
In the photos it’s just styled with
a leave in conditioner, hair mousse, I diffused it and put a leave in serum for frizzy hair

I wash my hair twice a week, i use as i am leave in conditioner and a hydrating shampoo since i thought it’d help with my frizz. The frizz gets so big and like high whenever a little wind blows on my hair. The wet frizz started not long ago, ive been using as i am conditioner long before it was frizzy when wet. I dont use any products on my hair than the conditioner and shampoo.

I have a daughter who I think has curly hair. All her top hair is straight-ish but anything under us curly and her sides.

Our Routine / Products we use:

We use ogx coconut shampoo and conditioner as a family, I don't have curly hair but my husband does, like a porcelain doll

I use fairy tale rosemary spray because I do not want lice at home and like in many public schools there's a case here and there.

We have silk pillowcases but she always ends ur everywhere in the bed.

We do air dry because my daughter does not like loud sounds.

She's an outside kid so she's constantly in the sun and won't really keep a hat on

Sorry for the bad pictures but we were in a rush this morning and she had just woken up.

Her hair is straight at the top but the bottom and sides can go from a 3a to a 3c

Advice Needed Help de tangling my hair before I ruin it 😩.

Hi all. I need product recs for masks/ detanglers before my curls come out in clumps 😩. The problem is I live in Spain and there really isnt the wide variety of brands you have stateside. There are your supermarket brands and then the salon brands. I was looking at L’Oréal Professional Curl Expression and Matrix a Curl Can Dream. I tried Shea moisture and no luck. Zero slip. My curl type is 3b/3C. Help is greatly appreciated!

how can i get my curls/waves back like they were a year ago? need help with my routine

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, i’m making this post hoping someone can help me figure out what i’m doing wrong and how i can get my hair back to how it looked about a year ago.

for most of my childhood, i always kept my hair really short, so i had no idea that my hair was actually wavy/curly. Last year i decided to grow it out, and as it got longer, it naturally started becoming wavy and then curly. this was honestly the first time i realised i had some texture in my hair.

at that time, i started using shampoo + conditioner (random) for my hair and also got a curl gel. but the problem was that whenever i used those products, i felt like i was getting a lot more hair fall and i also had pretty bad dandruff. eventually i got fed up with it and decided to cut my hair( zero cut), hoping the dandruff would go away and i could start taking better care of my hair from scratch.

i cut my hair in december, and now it has finally grown out to a decent length again. the problem is that my hair isn't curling/waving like it used to.

earlier, i used completely random shampoo and conditioner and somehow my hair had much better curls. now i'm actually using a curl shampoo, curl conditioner, hair cream and then hair gel, but somehow things have become worse in terms of definition.

the products are definitely making my hair more moisturised than before, which is good, but now my hair takes forever to dry and becomes extremely silky/soft. it feels like the products are weighing my hair down. my hair doesn't hold its shape, it just falls flat, and the curls don't really form even though i'm following the usual curly-hair routine.

what confuses me even more is how differently my hair behaves depending on what i use:

shampoo only: extremely frizzy and looks almost straight

shampoo + conditioner: very silky and straight/flat

curl products: moisturised but very heavy, takes forever to dry and loses its shape and not curly not even wavy

sometimes my hair randomly becomes wavy/curly, but other times it looks almost completely straight

i genuinely don't know what i'm doing wrong .

i'd really appreciate some advice from people who have gone through something similar. how can i get my hair back to how it looked a year ago? should i be using fewer products? could i be over-moisturising my hair or using products that are too heavy for my hair?

also, i'd really like help figuring out what my actual hair type is. i'm guessing somewhere around 2a/2b, but i'm honestly not sure.

any advice about routine, products, washing, styling technique or figuring out my hair type would be really appreciated. i just want to understand my hair better and get those natural waves/curls back.

Advice Needed Seeking advice on caring for my almost 2 year olds hair.

Hi everyone!

My daughter is 19 months and has hair like her dad. It’s definitely curly but I don’t have a clue what I am supposed to be doing to care for it or what products I am supposed to be using in it. Currently I use **Ricitos De Oro Curls & Waves Shampoo** for washing her hair. After I use **Dove Kids Care Conditioner for Coils, Curls and Waves.** I detangle with a comb and try to leave it natural when i can but sometimes I add a curl leave in conditioner and try scrunching a little bit.

My fiancé has super curly hair but he doesn’t use products so he doesn’t have a clue either lol. I want to let her hair be as great as it can be and i can’t help but think that her hair looks really messy all of the time rather than cute and curly.

The first two photos are post bath…the third photo is with leave in, 4th photo is brushed out and the last photo is after sleeping.

I am here for any & all advice, products and techniques to make her hair be at full potential so i can know that im not damaging it or doing something wrong. TIA!!!

2c/3a | low porosity| Product recommendation

I have thick, dense 2C/3A hair with medium-thick/coarse strands and highlights.

My curls used to be much more defined, but now I struggle with **frizz and puffiness**. My hair forms good clumps/ringlets when wet, but once it dries, the curls separate and lose definition.

I’ve tried **The Curl Co Soft Hold Cream** and **Set Wet gel**, but neither gave me enough hold/frizz control.

I’m considering:
Shampoo – Sebamed
Conditioner – Moxie Ultra Hydrating
Curl cream – Moxie Super Defining
Gel – Manetain Hard Hold

**Would these work for my hair, or would you recommend something else?** Especially looking for a strong-hold, frizz-controlling gel without white cast. Open to other brands too!

Product Suggestions Needed Budget friendly detangling conditioner for low porosity.

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all.

I recently made some posts in other subreddits looking for budget friendly thick conditioners to detangle my hair in the shower. I have fine, wavy, low porosity hair that is easily matted (I've had to chop mattes out before).

I was recommended clear henna wax which has been working really well and is quite cheap but I've been reading that it may not be good for my hair long term so here I am again looking for something with a lot of slip and hydrating that won't coat my hair too much. I know it's a bit of a specific ask.

Routine:

I currently use a salicylic acid shampoo followed by a moisturising or volumising redkin shampoo. Then detangle in the shower with the clear henna. I either put no product in, scrunch and air dry or I use a bit of mousse, sea salt spray and a light gel then diffuse.

I'm in Australia but have access to some/most international products. Budget is $10-$30.

Product Suggestions Needed Need heat protectant suggestions.

I have high density fine 3a-3b hair, I need a heat protectant when I use my diffuser on medium heat because otherwise itll take genuinely an hour or more. My hair is just past my shoulders when its dried, and when wet is mid-upper chest. I'd love to hear lightweight options like a spray but I'd rather stay away from oils.

Current routine:

Head and shoulders shampoo.

Kerastase curl manifesto fondant conditioner.

Styling:

First I put heat protectant in my hair curlsmith miracle shield (but its expensive and empty fast so I want a cheaper alternative without compromising my hair health)

Then Giovanni Cosmetics Mousse Hair Styling Foam.

Then I scrunch out excess product with a cotton t shirt, i add curlsmith hydro flexi styling gel to my hair.

Then lastly mousse (Umberto giannini curl whip)

And dry with the diffuser on low speed, medium heat.

Advice Needed How do I style my hair?

So basically I’m going to style my hair curly for the first time in a while, and I was wondering what products and order I should use them in. For reference I have 4b hair that’s really long and puffs up a lot.

Help!!! Mom just trying

Okay, I am a mom to a red headed curly haired girl and I have no clue what I’m doing. I’ve always had hair on the straighter side (very little movement at all) so I’ve never dove into the curly side of hair. I’m really struggling with learning what to do with her hair. I do know I need to watch how her hair reacts to water so hear that. Her hair does take a bit more to fully get wet but then it seems to take longer to dry after it is wet. We are dealing with loads of frizz and I’m not understanding how to deal with the curl pattern of the tight curls on the bottom but loser curls on top.

Edit- THANK YOU ALL, for the suggestion and kind words about my sweet girl. Hopefully this mama gets it down pat soon and I’ve learned some things I had no clue I was doing wrong.

Advice Needed Help needed!!

So im a nonbinary PoC and ive had the same hairstyle for over 15 years and i need a change, I just throw it up in a bun. I usually cut my own hair (a little shorter than shoulder length) since i just throw it up anyways. I have 3a hair and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for alternative ish styles that are short enough to not lay on the neck since i have major sensory issues with my hair resting on my neck (hence 15 years of bun) Pictures would be perfect, product recommendations will also be highly appreciated.

I use ogx tea tree and peppermint shampoo with the argan oil conditioner with no other product. I usually blow dry before putting up and do not use a bonnet or satin pillow sheets. (I grew up with a white mom who never really took the time to learn and properly take care of my hair, a-lot of relaxer was used throughout my childhood)
