Interestingly, this is mostly caused by the growth pattern of a larger mycelium system. The roots under the ground fruit mushrooms, and when they die the mycelium pushes outward along the edges to grow more. This causes the "fairy ring" to grow like that.

Fairy rings. So the actual mushroom organisim is underground, it's a network of mycelium that spreads outwards in a circle untill it reaches some kind of barrier, maybe concrete or another fungi, and it stops there and reproduces. Mushrooms are just temporary penises for the mycelium, the grow on the outer edge of its colonized territory and throw up mushrooms to bridge the gaps
