Video Japanese Electric Flyswatter-Zapper

u/meta-radar 14h ago
Why does it stop zapping after they die? Are they not conducting anymore?

It’s operated by a human.
It zaps the dead flys too when activated.

No, you could not select target with static setup like this. Current flows only where there is least amount if resistance.
The reason the electric arc is not continuous is that the fly does not itself form a permanent short circuit. It temporarily provides a conductive path through the air.
When the fly dies, its body quickly dries out and becomes charred. This changes its electrical properties, so it no longer provides a sufficiently conductive path to sustain the arc. Once the current stops, the ionized plasma channel in the air collapses almost immediately.
A living fly, on the other hand, contains a lot of water and is relatively conductive. When a new fly approaches the electrode, it distorts and concentrates the electric field enough to trigger a new discharge.
So the device doesn't necessarily detect whether the fly is alive or dead. The dead fly simply no longer meets the electrical conditions required to initiate or sustain the arc.

Why do flies gather there?

u/PamonhaSelvagem 10h ago
The first one might just be a coïncidence.
But the other are simply atending each other’s funeral. They are flies, but they are not that rude.3

Ignore the wrong answer, he pasted a lure on the inner pole to pull them in, also these flies are kept in confinement for ease of filming.

u/Bilbo_Einstein 5h ago
Check the pillar the orb is upon, it’s got black and white stripes to attract flies. Works on a lot of agricultural-scale flytraps the same way

u/BluetheNerd 8h ago
The dead flies still get zapped, the reason it’s not continuous is someone is choosing when to turn it on or off. It has a conductive grounded ring surrounding it, even without any flies there if it was on it would be continuously arcing to that ring, the flies, both dead and alive, provide an easier path to that ring which is why they get zapped.

I didn’t say it selects a target. In fact, I said the complete opposite of that.
It’s operated by a human and zaps both dead and alive flys when activated. As you can clearly see in the video.

u/Junethemuse 6h ago
Lmao what are you on about? They didn’t say anything about targeting. They said someone is controlling when it fires and noted how it zaps everything without distinction: aka, not targeted.
You are did use a lot of words to show you didn’t quite read what they said.
3
u/dont_worry_about_it8 4h ago
Sounds smart but no. Idk why you said no then proceeded to say you can’t select a target. No one said you could? He literally just said a person is turning it on or off. Soooo actually most of this comment irrelevant as hell.

Only the carbon they result in IS conductive, this is inherantly false. You're misunderstanding 40,000 volts on a critical level. Corona, surface effects, capacitance are things that occur at high-frequency high-voltage energy impulses. These effects would continue to cause polarization reactions in their bodies, literally pushing and pulling them from each other. Dessication does mitigate the potential, but not greatly enough to negate the stream of electrons that a tesla coil pushes. It WILL find the least resistant path to ground. These are laws, goddamnit.

Losing moisture makes less conductive.

Well if this can kill mosquitoes then yes cause these houseflies aren't such nuisance to me
3
u/WeirdStorms 7h ago
Not such a nuisance? lol I wonder how many fly eggs youve eaten without knowing.. after catching a pile of eggs on my sesame chicken once, I always inspect my food if I see flys in the room. Fuck that.

u/Common-Method2202 6h ago
god forbid you covered your food 😭😭😭
not everyone leaves their food out for the flies to feast on

Google Van de Graaf generator. Easy to build it yourself or buy a cheap set on Amazon.

I’m pretty sure I built loads of these in Command and Conquer: Red Alert.

I was looking for this comment! Lol the tesla coils always took forever to load sometimes though 😂😂

They missed an opportunity to put the Command & Conquer Red Alert theme music on this video.

Those flies aren't dying.
Their souls are being sent into the ether realm to eventually become PE teachers and AI CEOs.

All well and good until you reanimate them. Now you have zombie flies. And you have to gather the villagers.

I have a problem with squirrels digging in my yard and solicitors leaving menus on my porch railing. I think I just found my solution to these problems...

We have here so many flies, that it would cause fire if they pile up on this machine.

Have they not seen the laser tracking or drone ones? Japan is now always behind in tech for everything except video games. Jk 😉

Soo many questions.... for starters, why are the flies attracted to the circled area?

Do they work on mice, rats, roaches, ants, fleas, and other pests and vermin? Because I assure you that plenty will want to buy this if it does.

You want flies that are impervious to electricity? Because that's how you make flies that are impervious to electricity.

I think it's a good idea until it starts making Frankenstein type zombie flies

You're calling this Japanese as if this is just a normal installation in a Japanese home.
I'm guessing this is more just a fun experiment by one individual.

Tesla coil for ants?
