I’m thinking there’s a helluva lot more than just those two things in this photo! There’s a pretty good chance every “star-looking” splotch is also a galaxy.

I’m no astronomer, but is that not another spiral galaxy behind (from our perspective above) andromeda? Either way you’re totally right. We could be looking at millions of civilizations just like ours in this very photo and never even realize it.

That is definitely a galaxy. Zoom in, you’ll see a lot more smaller ones, and there’s even more you won’t see without the infrared spectrum that JWST uses.

I assume basically all of them. These fields of view probably wouldn’t include any foreground stars. I could be wrong though.

The closest star to earth, proxima centari is 4.24 light years away. It would take our fastest interstellar probe (voyager 1) about 75,000 years to get there.

Andromeda, the closest galaxy to our own, is 2.5 million light years away.

I believe green is also the plasma color of oxygen, which has a higher concentration high up in the atmosphere. Same reason high altitude auroras are green. But a green combustion flame can indeed be generated by burning copper, or possibly boron.

I saw the Hubble Andromeda mosaic image just yesterday and now that. Even tho I somehow can comprehend the scale of the universe but seeing the detail of Hubble‘s image just blew my mind.

Your image puts everything into a new perspective.
