in fact gold phallic sheaths existed in ancient Egyptian funerary practice but only in rare instances.

If you ever visited a greek museum and see that on many sculptures something is missing, then you'd know something happened and that happened in egypt too. Egyptians were quite famous for phallic symbolic, in example Min + Amun Min, Osiris explicit misses a phallus as it was 'eaten by fish' so the myth.
