ANNOUNCEMENT 📢 r/Davao Community Reminder: Events, Meetups & Relationship Posts

Hi everyone!

As our community continues to grow, we'd like to clarify a few rules to keep r/Davao useful and relevant for everyone.

🚫 No R4R, Dating, or Disguised Relationship Posts

Posts looking for dates, hookups, friends-with-benefits, "looking for someone to hang out 😉", or any similar R4R-style content will be removed immediately.

This subreddit is not a place to find romantic or personal relationships. There are other communities better suited for that purpose.

Also posts requesting information about NSFW or Illegal activities will automatically be deleted.

✅ Activity & Meetup Posts Are Still Welcome

We do encourage posts looking for people to join you for activities, such as:

Sports (pickleball, badminton, running, etc.)
Concerts and festivals
Board games
Hiking
Community events
Hobby groups

The intent should be the activity itself, not finding a date.

Speaking of Events
🎟️ Event Posts Must Include Pricing

If you're posting about an event, whether you're organizing it or simply sharing it, you must clearly state whether it is:

Free; or
Paid (and include the ticket price or registration fee)

No hidden costs or vague "DM for more info" posts. Full disclosure helps everyone decide whether an event is right for them.

Posts that omit this information will be removed until updated.

Thanks for helping keep r/Davao a helpful resource for locals and visitors alike. If you're ever unsure whether your post fits the subreddit, feel free to message the mod team before posting.

Happy posting! 🌴

ANNOUNCEMENT [Mod Announcement] Stricter Enforcement of Reddiquette + New Flair System

Hi r/Davao, mod team here. 👋 We’re rolling out a flair tagging system for rule violators, with stricter enforcement specifically for Reddiquette violations (personal attacks, harassment, hate speech, bad-faith trolling, etc.). This is to keep discussions productive, respectful, and welcoming for everyone in the community.

Here’s how the strike system will work moving forward:

S1 (Strike 1): 15-day ban from the subreddit

S2 (Strike 2): 30-day ban from the subreddit

S3 and beyond: Permanent ban

Users who receive strikes will be flair-tagged accordingly, and to be clear and transparent: we will provide receipts (screenshots/links to the violating comments or posts) before issuing any strike or flair. No vague warnings, no mystery bans.

This isn’t about being overly strict, it’s about drawing a clear line, especially when it comes to Reddiquette. You’re free to disagree, debate, and criticize ideas, but attacking people or derailing discussions won’t fly anymore.

As always, if you think a strike was issued in error, you may reach out via modmail calmly and respectfully. We’re happy to review.

Salamat, and let’s keep r/Davao a solid space for real conversations.

HELP / RECOMMEND SPMC OB ER Worst Experience | Sharing My 2026 Experience

Sharing my recent experience with the SPMC OB ER. Honestly, since 2018, nothing has changed.
My advice to those who have the budget is, if possible, avail of a package from a private hospital, especially if you’re having a normal delivery. Save up beforehand and don’t try to cut costs if you can afford it.

If you’re having a CS or really don’t have the budget, you can apply for the Zero Billing Program or NBB. Davao Doc, San Pedro, and Brokenshire have these programs now for both normal delivery and CS, although they are subject to approval. Better apply before you reach 6 months of pregnancy and get a referral from a private doctor, or walk in at Davao Doc. From what I’ve heard, the feedback has mostly been positive.

Now, here’s my experience with SPMC in 2026.
With my two previous pregnancies, I had my checkups with a private OB and would usually just ask for a referral when needed. I did the same with my third pregnancy, but this time my situation is different because I’m experiencing preterm labor. My private OB advised me to go to the SPMC ER.

When you arrive, they triage you, interview you, and check your laboratory results, including your ultrasound. It’s honestly better to have your records with you because you can get scolded if you don’t have any records or previous checkups, which is understandable because they need information about your pregnancy to properly assess you.

I also want to say that some of the nurses in the OB ER were actually kind and decent when dealing with patients.

However, with some of the doctors, I noticed that they would approach patients while shouting or speaking harshly, which can feel very humiliating. If you take a few seconds longer during an IE, they can already get irritated or scold you.

For example, when you have a big belly, you have to lie down on the bed and remove your underwear and pants for the examination. That naturally takes a little time. Even if it takes 5 to 10 seconds, they can already get annoyed.

Some patients, especially those experiencing an IE for the first time, may instinctively lift their butt even just a little because, of course, the procedure can be painful and uncomfortable. Instead of calmly guiding them, some doctors would shout, and I’ve even seen them hit the patient while saying, “Ma’am, ayaw itaas ang lobot!”
I’ve also heard some doctors say things like, “Katong nagbuhat mo ug bata, dili lagi sakit, ma’am!?”

I understand that they need the patient to stay in the proper position for the examination, but there are better and more professional ways to communicate that. Saying things like this, especially loudly while other patients can hear, is quite unprofessional and can be very humiliating for someone who is already in pain and experiencing the procedure for the first time.

I know there are a lot of patients. I know their workload is heavy. But I don’t think it’s necessary to shout at or humiliate patients.

I understand their process and system. You have to answer quickly, know the details of your pregnancy and medical history, and disclose everything because they have many patients to attend to.

But then even the janitors, guards, and midwives would scold patients. Sometimes the midwife would correct patients loudly in front of everyone.
And what’s worse is that everyone lining up in the ER can hear your diagnosis.

They speak loudly when discussing your case or when they don’t understand something in your medical records. I understand that you’re in an ER and there are no private rooms, but there should still be some level of privacy.

Imagine you’re waiting in line and instead of asking you to come closer and speaking to you privately, they shout questions at you about your condition, why you’re there, what happened, and then scold you while everyone around you can hear.

I also witnessed students practicing IV insertion on patients. I saw several instances where the student nurse struggled with multiple attempts. The patient was already in pain and in labor, and it just made the situation even more difficult because they were being used for practice.

If you decline, they can even get upset.
The nurses do help patients, and I acknowledge that. But these experiences were still very difficult to witness.

I’m currently experiencing preterm labor. Two of my previous babies were born at around 36 weeks, and now that I’m 35 weeks, I’m worried about fetal distress. That’s why I went to the ER twice, just so I could at least be monitored and know whether I was already progressing into active labor.
Then Doctor shouted:
“Asa ni si [my last name], ma’am? Ngano sige ka’g anhi diri? Ganahan kaayo mo magbalik-balik diri. Premature pa imong baby, wala pa nag-open imong cervix. Dili ni hotel diri, ma’am ha! Pag-OPD mo.”

In my defense, how am I supposed to know if my cervix is already open or if my baby is okay?
No one would willingly spend 10 hours waiting in an ER just because they wanted to hang out.
I wasn’t there for fun. I was scared.

There was no advice given to me to rest, no other tests were requested, and they didn’t even check the laboratory results I already had.
Then the OB said something like, “Ay, naa diay ka ani?”

I explained that I had already completed all my tests and that my private OB, whom I’ve been seeing since 2018, had referred me to SPMC.

The OB sarcastically responded, “Oh well, I don’t care. Wala na kay mabuhat. Mo-follow ka sa amo kay diri ka manganak balik 2 weeks after.”
And I was honestly stunned.

Like, are you really sure? Where did that attitude come from?

And just to be clear, we can wait. We are not expecting a fast process or convenience because we know how crowded SPMC is. We know how heavy their workload is. We know the usual process and system in SPMC, and we are willing to wait and follow the process.

But we deserve to be treated humanely.
Patients don’t deserve to be shamed just because we are not paying anything or because the staff have too many patients to handle.

We understand that they are overwhelmed. We understand that they have a huge number of patients to attend to. But that doesn’t mean we should have to endure the rudeness, shouting, and humiliation.

We are not asking for special treatment. We are not asking them to prioritize us.

We are simply asking to be treated with basic respect and dignity.
So I decided that, for me, getting zero billing is not worth it anymore. It feels like I’m selling my dignity and peace of mind just to save money.
This time, I’ve decided to go back to my private OB and pay out of pocket.

I’ve been crying and feeling extremely frustrated.
I know public hospitals are overwhelmed. I know healthcare workers have difficult jobs and deal with an enormous number of patients every day. I also know that patients have a responsibility to cooperate and understand the process.
But patients are human too.

Especially when you’re pregnant, experiencing preterm labor, scared about your baby, and already in pain, you should not be made to feel ashamed for seeking medical help.

I’m sharing this because I know many people depend on SPMC because private healthcare is expensive. I’m not saying everyone there is like this because, as I mentioned, I also encountered nurses who were kind and helpful.

I’m simply sharing my personal experience and why, after this experience, I’ve decided that I would rather find a way to pay for private care than go through the same experience again.

HELP / RECOMMEND Is there an active WLW community in Davao?

Hey all! I'm an introverted gay girl looking for more friends in the community. Honestly where are you guys hiding 😭 it's getting tiring doing things alone. I'm down to do anything-- coffee, movies, gym, running, tennis, or anything artsy and active.

I just got out of a long term relationship and would love to have friends who can relate. I've lost interest in the things I used to love and would like to change that. I'm making ways to start over. I know it's a slow process but hopefully with the right support from the community I can recover.

HELP / RECOMMEND Is rental a good investment in Davao now? Ponciano st near Ateneo Jacinto po ang lot.

Post image
32 Upvotes

Hello. I bought a lot last 2023 kasi. Up until now empty pa talaga siya. I found a contractor, it is CCKC Construction Services and Design. The lot is 80sqm, 4-storey, 6 rooms per floor, all concrete, and budget is ₱35,000/sqm or roughly ₱11M total contract price.

Now, i’m worried if we should invest to this ₱11M building, baka in the end kasi walang mag rent sa amin hehehe.

Attached below is our perspective with regard to room layout. Good for 1 person. With bed, study table/chair, cabinets, CR na.

Do you think someone would rent for ₱6,500-7,500 per room for this type of room with own CR? (10sqm). Or should they prefer simple bunk beds inside for a cheaper rent 4-5k/room?

My target market kasi are those who prefer na they are alone in one room. May worries nga lang ako what if hindi afford ng target ko yung rental payment hehehe baka ma zero kami. If not naman, parang ang liit ata ng 4500x 15rooms =67,500 per month less expenses pa para sa income hehehe

Hope you can comment your advises so we can make wise decision.

PS: we already have booming business. We can’t diversify it kasi hindi namin ma manage ibat ibang business. We stick to one nalang. Bale itong pang build namin, extra sana namin na hindi namin malaman laman san namin ipapasok. Hehehe

+++in case maka build kami and okay ang renta, we plan to get a loan of the building to buy for another commercial lot sana in davao (the one na along the highway or may foot traffic) hehe

EVENTS Vanilla World of WarCraft Davao

Hello everybody,

I recently, after over 15 years of absence, decided to play me some Vanilla World of WarCraft (not classic) again. I found a relatively new Private Server and wouldn't you know, it's run by a Filipino!

The server isn't very populated (yet) so it got me thinking. Maybe there are other people here in Davao that would like to return to, or for the first time enter the World of WarCraft as it was 22 years ago.

It would be nice to get a little, local community going, maybe even start a guild (requires at least 10 people) some day.

As I mentioned, it's a private server which means it's not official and not supported by Blizzard (the company that made game) whatsoever. What that means is that not only do you not have to buy the game but it also comes without any subscription costs. All you have to do is register an email with the server's website (this will be your login) and download the game (5Gbyte Lang). I'll send a link to anybody that is interested, a so-called recruitment link, that will give you some minor bonuses once you reached level 15 and 15 hours total playtime, but that's not really the important part.

Vanilla World of Warcraft is a slow game and it can be hard but it is never particularly difficult at any given time, due to its inherent simplicity. It's the perfect game for new and old players alike in that regard.

It's one of those few games that you can play with your gaming buddies and with your girlfriend that never played a game before. I even know some people from back in the day that got their parents playing with them. It's really doable for anyone.

And since it's an old game it will run on pretty much any PC or laptop available today. Heck, I'm pretty sure there are fridges now that could theoretically run it lol

I am also willing to answer questions and help people that are new to Warcraft or gaming as a whole. I genuinely just want to get a little community running and have some people filling this fantastical world of olden times.

Leave a comment or send me a DM if you're interested and I'll provide you with the link and/or will answer all further questions you might have.

Salamat kaayo, I hope I could make a few of you curious.

EDIT: I forgot to give an important information: I am playing Alliance. So that's the blue faction consisting of Humans, Dwarfs, Gnomes and Nightelves. In order to fully be ably to play together we all need to be of the same faction, so please pick Alliance too, po.

EDIT: Maybe I could get word from the moderators whether I am allowed to post the link directly in here. I resorted to DMs because I wasn't sure if it is allowed or not to directly post links.

It's 11 and wala pa gihapon sila nahuman ug karaoke. Sobra kasaba ga vibrate among balay sa kakusog. Nasakop na nila ang isa ka street kay sagawas ang ilahang birthday party.

Subdivision ni so dapat dili ingani, okay lang man unta kung fiesta but it's just a birthday party unya na nakahatag nag samok sa mga silingan.

HELP / RECOMMEND Planning to do midnight cycling to regain endurance. How safe is davao?

I'm new to Davao City and just moved here. Usually from where I was the city is real quiet and generally safe, not even a ghost in sight lol.

But davao is much, much bigger. And I wouldn't wanna risk getting gang jumped on or something. How's the safety assessment here? I'm around buhangin and plan to cycle/jog at night.

I've laid off the bike for a few months due to financial struggle. I've finally built one and plan to ride around midnight/AM hours, because I find that the sun here does not feel like your regular sun. Jesus christ it's insanely hot, like there's a hole in the ozone layer or something 😭.
