Fan Art vindicta as judgment

decided to draw vindicta as judgment after finishing my silver hanged man drawing! i thought it fit her nicely because of her lore as a victim of the salem witch trials and her desire for vengeance.

also see the lineart and my layers in procreate ^_^

edit: if you have ideas or suggestions for the other characters/tarot cards, please leave them below! i have already assigned cards to various characters but haven't started on anything, so i'd love to hear from you.

Hierophant Doorman next, please.

  • Signed, an enthusiastic patron of the Baroness.

adding it to the list! was originally thinking of venator as hierophant for obvious reasons but i haven't assigned doorman a tarot yet and i def wanna get to him eventually

Entirely reasonable. If you have interest in my own rationale:

The Hierophant is typically depicted with keys, and occasionally with a halo. The Venator posseses the latter, certainly, but the Doorman possesses both.

The Hierophant is, by trade, not necessarily a priest, but a person who reveals mysteries, and bridges the earth with the heavens. They are, quite literally, one who watches and opens doors.

The Hierophant is associated with both tradition and enlightenment. The Doorman is eternal, and also in a position of service. As for enlightenment... Have you ever encountered the phrase "gone mad from the revelation"?

Finally, I assume at least in part the Venator is associated due to his connection with a deity. In that case, however, I think the Doorman trumps him still. After all, if the fledgling god were to claim second amongst Deadlock's class in terms of closeness to divinity, who would dare take first place?

In any case, whatever you decide, I look forward to it. I'm certain Venator as the Hierophant would be stunning, if this work is any indication.

thank you! and you've definitely swayed me. i really appreciate the deep thought into assigning doorman to hierophant and i will (hopefully) eventually start sketching out ideas for this soon

I think going with venator as the hierophant is perfect. For Doorman, the devil is right there. I believe he fits far more into that for various reasons. The devil often ties into temptation, opulence, addiction, pleasure, something that doorman plays into when tempting other characters to stay in the luxuries and pleasant walls of the baroness, and entrapment into such life style is exactly something that the devil can convey. On top of that a life of pleasure, without any significant meaning, is exactly the kind of life doorman has led for most of his life, only doing what he did for personal amusment. It can also represent change of what already is, both material and intent/emotional, and in this case doorman is the one who decided to go through a great change, the one of abandoning the life of torment and becoming a servant for mortals. And ofc there is also the obvious reason, Doorman is pretty much the devil and likely heavily inspired by the concept of it

u/toon_townie 14h ago

this is also a very good point! i'll try to rework the assignments i have and see who can fit what. what do you think would fit billy the best out of curiosity?

4

u/ThefaceX Billy 12h ago

The tower. The tower is all about a radical change, out with the old, in with the new. It's probably the most straight forward and simple card. And It's very representative of a revolution, which billy is all about

2

u/SageParadoxFGC 13h ago

This would have been my second choice.

I think it's a less interesting portrayal of both the Venator and Doorman, but recognising the Doorman's origins as a devil-esque entity is good, even if I think the hedonism of the Devil card is better represented elsewhere.

Peak, id buy a deadlock tarot deck in a heartbeat

3

u/xWitchdoktax The Doorman 11h ago

They would also make great mini posters

u/Siilk Lash 13h ago

6

u/xWitchdoktax The Doorman 14h ago

I'd love to see warden as Justice

3

u/toon_townie 14h ago

thank you! i plan to get to this eventually

Keep up the amazing work!

Here is my take. Some are missing, and I just looked up Tarot meanings on Google because I've never done tatrit before :- p

I hope you find my ideas fun!

Fool: Rem.
Innocent and starting anew, Rem explores a strange new waking world

Magician: Seven.
Using magic to realize his full power and potential, seven seeks his divinity

High priestess: Venator.
Bringing inquisitorial justice, Venator smites all those unworthy of the Lord's light

Empress: ???

Emperor: ???

Hierophant: Doorman.
Descending from the heavens unto earth, The Doorman seeks to guide his toys down an… amusing path

Lovers: Mo and krill.
These two are in a healthy relationship as partners, unlike the disaster that is the Sinclairs

Chariot: Mirage.
Mirage carries forth the Djinn into a new life

Strength: Gray Talon.
Despite life’s many hardships and tragedies, Grey Talon perseveres with strength and determination

Hermit: Pocket.
Hiding behind a cloak, pocket seeks their future and contemplates what place to take in the world and Fairfax industries

Wheel of Fortune: Kelvin.
Mysterious misfortunes have befallen Kelvin. What will he make of them? And will he uncover the truth behind the fate of his crew?

Justice: Warden.
Warden seeks to impose justice upon the patrons, no matter the cost

Hanged man: Silver.
Silver seeks a new life after the disastrous state she finds herself in

Death: Victor.
Born from death and made anew, Victor represents the end signalling a new beginning

Temperance: Dynamo.
A man with a harmonious life, seeking truth and knowledge about the eclipse and the patrons

The devil: Infernus/Mina Ha.
Infernus spent his youth wreaking death and destruction. Eventually, he took control and settled down.
Mina Ha represents hedonism and chaos, without the moderation of growth that Infernus represents. I'm not sure who fits best

The tower: Billy.
Billy preaches desire for change and upheaval

The star: Celeste.
Inner contemplation has led Celeste to a new beginning, stepping out of the shadows to shine

The Moon: The Lash.
The cracks in his arrogant and uncaring demeanor may hint at the illusion hiding the true man underneath….

The Sun: Ivy.
Radiant and hopeful, Ivy is always willing to lend a hand.
Note: Ivy may also fit well with the Empress, but the cast is filled with tragedy and selfishness and lacks another character who can represent hope and generousity for the sun

Judgement: Vindicta.
Hunting from afar, Vindicta judges all those that have wronged her guilty

The world: ???

Empress and Emperor can be the two patrons.

5

u/Gwenneeko 5h ago

Oh shit yeah that's smart

3

u/toon_townie 9h ago

i love these! i def agree with celeste/the star, death/victor, and justice/warden, and i really appreciate you taking the time to lay out your reasoning for all the assignments. thank you for the suggestions!

u/Lylulu 14h ago

Great concept

I have to give procreate a try, it took me forever to get used to CSP after using Photoshop for years. And I bought CSP before their subscription model, and now I have limited re-installs for my key which is absolutely absurd. Wonderful work, your layers are so tidy too, mine are always mini trainwrecks contained in folders lol

3

u/toon_townie 14h ago

thank you so much! and learning how to make my layers more organized has definitely been a struggle lol (half of the layers on this piece aren't even named other than the ones for vindicta). and i really recommend procreate! i used to draw on krita and medibang but switched to procreate after buying an ipad a year ago.

1

u/InvestigatorOk7015 12h ago

Id rather avoid training apple ai, personally

2

u/toon_townie 12h ago

can you elaborate on this a bit? i tried googling anything about apple using procreate art to train its ai but couldn't find much. i may have to look into alternatives if this is true though

3

u/harikonbini 14h ago

this is so beautiful 💕 do you plan to do more?

5

u/toon_townie 14h ago

thank you so much! i hope to eventually finish a whole set for all the major arcana cards, but progress will definitely be slow since there's like 22 of them and each one will probably take a few weeks

3

u/yokotokki Vindicta 14h ago

agh this is so beautiful and perfect for vindicta, your colouring and composition are immaculate <33 might make this my phone wallpaper if it's okay ^^

3

u/toon_townie 14h ago

yes of course you can use it as your wallpaper, and thank you so much :)

3

u/gradzio99 Venator 13h ago

Can we get the cube(or viscous) as The Tower, since viscous brings about the news of the adversary

3

u/Unique-Flounder-2985 13h ago

Looks awesome I'd buy a print of this tbh

3

u/dodpl1 Ivy 12h ago

Looks really good, have plans for the rest of the cards ?

3

u/toon_townie 12h ago

thank you, and yes! i'm having a friend help me with rem as the moon. i've started sketching out pocket/mina as the lovers, and plan to do victor for death soon.

3

u/dodpl1 Ivy 12h ago

Thought Rem fitted more '"the fool" but I whoud love to see it as "the moon"

3

u/toon_townie 11h ago

i can def see that too, but i have a really funny concept for vyper as the fool about to slither off a skyscraper like the fool in the rider-waite card :p

2

u/dodpl1 Ivy 11h ago

Pls do it lmao

2

u/NoJellyfishHere 12h ago

Lady Geist as a reversed The World.

2

u/dangermonke1332 Vyper 11h ago edited 11h ago

God damn that's great art! Also I'd like so suggest Victor as The Hermit. It represents reflection, looking inside yourself for answers, and spiritual growth which I think Victor suits pretty well because his whole goal is to basically find out who made him and who he's made of. The inverted version of the card represents isolation and feeling lost, which also fits Victor pretty clearly.

He also fits pretty neatly into Death (obviously) but I'd argue that Vyper also fits pretty well for that card (either that or The Devil). Death represents transformation and breaking a cycle, which is Vyper's whole goal, to get a new life and break the cycle of committing crimes and then being imprisoned, breaking out and doing it over. I think the Patrons literally say to her "The cycle can be broken."

Very cool art!; some ideas for other tarot/hero synergies which you may have already thought of but just popped into my mind:

The empress - Ivy (since the empress has a relationship with nature and nurturing; obviously ivy’s abilities with healing and general vines/plants seems a natural fit)

The tower - Graves (since the tower is associated with calamity or ruin I imagine an oversized gravestone from Graves’ kit forming the literal “tower” so to speak and the flaming zombies (or whatever they’re called) she spawns are running from it)

With less explanation;
The emperor - Dynamo
Temperance - Haze
The moon - Rem

Good luck and I join many others in saying that I’d maybe be interested in buying prints of some of these when they’re done!

1

u/toon_townie 10h ago

thank you so much! further down the line i’ll look into selling prints. i really like the idea of empress ivy, and one of my very talented friends is helping me with rem as the moon, so that should be uploaded soon.

for tower, i was thinking of seven because i had graves as high priestess but i haven’t started brainstorming ideas for either of the drawings so i’m def still flexible with the assignments!

2

u/themasterfold Billy 10h ago

Billy as The Devil could be cool, or him as The Fool, with the knapsack replaced with his bat. Pocket could fit the Hermit pretty well, Temperance seems to be made for Doorman. I think it would be really funny to make vyper either the High Priestess or the Empress lol

2

u/psp24 Celeste 9h ago

this and the silver one are pure gold, I love then so much!

2

u/RetardedRedditRetort 7h ago

Going back to your silver design. I remember there were some valid criticisms in the comments. Like the weird fingers on the gun trigger, the angle of the trigger itself. The jacket and how it flared and gravity not affecting it properly, and silvers tail not looking like a tail.

I can't catch any errors on this one. It's very neat. Looks finished to me.

2

u/toon_townie 5h ago

thank you, i definitely kept all of those critiques in mind while working on this piece and i'm glad you noticed and it paid off

2

u/noent 6h ago

Valve should definitely hit you up to make this official merch, amazing work

Gorgeous <3

1

u/super_novae0 13h ago

3

u/toon_townie 13h ago

thank you! also idk this might be a british/american spelling thing? ive seen judgment spelled without the e a lot haha

PEAK

1

u/Forrestdumps 10h ago

I would buy a whole set of these

Souls instead of pentacles

1

u/RetardedRedditRetort 7h ago

This looks even better than the silver I saw the other day.

Do you have any others done? Or still a work in progress?

These are really good.

1

u/toon_townie 5h ago

i'm very early stages on a mina/pocket lovers one right now, and my friend is collaborating with me on a rem piece (@s_washere on twitter). so those should be up within the next few weeks!

1

u/monopoly_wear 7h ago

Sweet, concept for Deadlock's Dark Carnival/Clownfall.

1

u/BluntPrincess21 2h ago

Drifter as the devil

2

u/superp2222 44m ago

As an amateur artist who can’t draw for shit this is a great insight to the fact that I’m gonna need a lot more than three layers…

1

u/Nick_Pocalypse Vindicta 12h ago

Feet!!
...
I meant peak!

1

u/qpdelta Ivy 6h ago

Since everyone is suggesting major arcana, would want 1 of rem's little helpers to be in each of the 1s of the minor arcana (if we're going that far) because, quite frankly, "they do lots of things"

u/Lucadi_2 14h ago

AI has ruined my sense of good art.

8

u/toon_townie 14h ago

sorry what do you mean by this?

6

u/Inkosi_yesihogo 14h ago

Don't know what he's meant. Your drawing is just wonderful. How long did it take you to draw it?

5

u/toon_townie 14h ago

i worked on this for around 2 weeks! and thank you very much

4

u/Lucadi_2 14h ago

This looks so good but my brain instantly goes "AI slop", even though you showed the layers and sketching and i feel bad for it..

5

u/toon_townie 14h ago

shoot, i've been aiming to imitate 19th century illustrators like walter crane and took inspo for the composition from the rider-waite tarot deck

3

u/Lucadi_2 14h ago

Oh so that's why you selected Vindicta (I'm slow).

I'm the problem, it looks honestly amazing 💜

3

u/toon_townie 14h ago

nw and thank you!

1

u/Cymen90 13h ago

so good but my brain instantly goes "AI slop"

that is a you problem

2

u/Lucadi_2 13h ago

Yes it is.

2

u/InvestigatorOk7015 12h ago

Thanks top 1% commenter, he literally already said and acknowledged that
