Just three seasons of O’Brien being water boarded while also constantly still being behind schedule in repairs to the new spaceship he’s been assigned to. Also his daughter is now a transdimensional warlord trying to kill him for some reason

14

u/pudgehooks2013 1d ago

Despite all that, he still talks shit to Bashir on the daily, the ship always works and he has kept his real daughter hidden in a transporter buffer for the last 3 years waiting to put her back in her real body.

Co-staring Rosalind Chao + good script == Emmy Gold

30

u/artofthesmart 1d ago

I'd be all over this, but not if it's another Picard. I need REALLY good writing.

29

u/Talk_Quiet 1d ago

Imagine if they went really hard into a serious adult drama. Like HBOs John Adams... or if that's too far, something more like Sopranos.

I want local stakes (no saving the galaxy) political/social themes that would be normal on earth but happen to occur in space (in a Trekt way)

14

u/w3rkman 1d ago

i'd genuinely love this. that was my exact issue with discovery. not everything needs to be about saving the galaxy from a mysterious force.

5

u/Stella-E-Starling121 1d ago

Exactly! Ugh I can't tell you how much this resonated with me!!!

7

u/TimeCadet 1d ago

Yesss, it's when the stakes are so huge, it feels like a marvel movie and my eyes glaze over

Miles and Keiko move to earth where O’Brian teaches engineering courses and consults on the new Oddysey class starship(the enterprise-F).

Their son is an upcoming academy student also studying engineering and trying to out live the shadow of his father. Keiko is pushing Kirayoshi maybe a bit to fast and isn’t happy with Miles’s relax approach. Molly is already an accomplished biologist at this point studying new types of mycelium species thought extinct.

Molly and Keiko tend to push the main narrative and drama along as the main focus is on Kirayoshi coming of age and sorting out his complicated relationship with his father who at first seems like he doesn’t want anything to do with his son but it’s later revealed in confidence to Keiko that Miles feels like Starfleet is too much for his son and just wants him to be safe whereas Keiko wants Kirayoshi to reach his full potential and self actualize despite Miles’s concerns about safety.

Oh and I don’t know how or what to do with him but I know I want Garret Wang as the head of the Academy and I want him as a captain.

A good script?

Paramount will never let that happen

3

u/SheShelley 1d ago

I like her but really not in this role. She was so whiny. Partly the writing’s fault but also in her delivery.

3

u/ENZYME_O1 1d ago

Midseason, make it extra salty and have Chao pull off a mask to reveal a Section 31 agent say, “your whole life is just a dream…” like in Total Recall. Guest stars can return from both TNG and DS9 “Never seen the man before…”

9

u/blueavole 1d ago

I can’t watch the suffering…

How does the union man thing work in a post scarcity economy again?

9

u/Minute-Respond4228 1d ago

In place of wages, possibly living conditions and other privileges? There will certainly still be working conditions to bargain over.

At first i was worried he passed away.  That poster at a quick glance...

But then to think those Ellison trolls would ever green light something like this.

We don't live in a beautiful enough world.

18

u/ArtsyApoidean 1d ago

If it got enough meme magic they'd greenlight it but then it would completely misunderstand what everyone loves about the character and ruin itself.

26

u/tankiolegend 1d ago

We all know O'brien must suffer and he's a union man so the Ellison trolls might make it just to try and claim unionists must suffer 😭

6

u/xiewadu 1d ago

"At first i was worried he passed away."

Same. I was terrified.

7

u/Spedoinkel 1d ago

Kept thinking how could he have made it through Deep Space 9? But I spent so many nights thinking how he stayed so strong. But them came Rom. And he made that union come along.

So, Colm is back. From outer space. And I would watch a new show with a smile on my face.

27

As long as O'Brien suffers for it.

7

u/ChiefD789 1d ago

Yep, he’s gotta suffer.

6

u/helpusdrzaius 1d ago

We love it!! But can we make it O'Brien, Oil Man?

10

u/Cakeday_at_Christmas 1d ago

u/BennyOcean 1d ago

The show alludes to him having been through wars. An O'Brien show would probably be about him as a young man and would be recast with an actor in his 20s.

Honestly they built up Kurzon Dax as enough of a legend that he could warrant his own show. And he's quasi-immortal which could give the show opportunities to do flashbacks into the deep past like they did on the show 'Highlander'.

6

u/jojojawn 1d ago

Oh oh oh! And then about every 2.5 seasons they do a big recast and Dax gets a new body. That'll keep the budget tight because new actors will jump at the chance to be Dr. Dax. They'll call it a rejuvenation. And then Dax could get in a small shuttle with a friend to go explore space over the course of a period of time.

3

u/JeanGreyDax 1d ago

I've always wanted a cross JeanGreyDax. Marvel ala better via Star Trek.

DS9 and TNG do more than just allude. It's explicitly stated on repeated occasions that he participated in the federation cardassian war, and several episodes go into details. He was a tactical officer on the Rutledge, and TNG has an episode highlighting that. And his war experiences are discussed quite a bit more on DS9. I recall Garak on one episode calling him the hero of one of a bloody battle. The only other war he participated in was the dominion war, and we've already seen that.

I don't really think that justifies a show unless they want to make one about the Cardassian war itself, but the Dax one, or one following another Trill, could be interesting. In a similar vein, a Lanthanite it El-Aurian show would be interesting.

11

u/Secret_Cod_749 1d ago

It's just O'Brien, retired with Keiko, being proud of Molly and little Kirayoshi as they chart their own path.

8

u/RedLanternScythe 1d ago edited 1d ago

Every episode is just the O'Briens sitting on a couch watching holos of their grandkids playing.

5

u/Secret_Cod_749 1d ago
  1. Please say you mean Holos and not Holes

It's 30 years post Dominion war, in those 30 years the occupation and rebuilding of Cardassia has been a quagmire. The Federation has been unsuccessful in trying to get them self sufficient due to the Klingons demands for tribute and war reparations, and Romulans constantly changing their position just to sow discord and hopefully drive a wedge between the Federation and Klingons. The Federation finally achieves a deal to massively improve Cardassian infrastructure and they need someone to head up the project, so they call upon the one Irishman who has a wealth of knowledge in integration of Federation and Cardassian technology.

O'Brian has spent the last 30 years quietly teaching at the academy, Molly has become an officer, while Yoshi has been working with his Mother at the daystrom Institute in Okinawa. Kaiko has won 2 awards on academic papers she's authored on the similarities between plants on Bajor and plants found near the wormhole in the Gamma quadrant. But she has also seen how bored her husband has become. And urges him to accept the assignment, to enjoy a new challenge.

Miles believes he has put his 2 wars with Cardassia far behind him. But will he uncover that his traumas aren't that far gone as he thought? Will he uncover a plot to destroy all his hard work? Will he help a broken people learn to fight for their own self determination? Will he rekindle a friendship that has been separated for decades by light years? And will a simple tailor help the son of Dukat become the leader Cardassia needs?

6

B&W picture that has the guy looking sad. Please don't do this, we've already lost too many legends this week.

5

I thought "WOAH that would be awesome" and then I realized that they would fuck it up.

6

u/shadow387557 1d ago

The first season main plot is figuring out what self sealing stem bolts do.

8

u/cinder74 18h ago

I would watch this.

Or what about a series about Worf’s son, Alexander, trying to integrate into Klingon society.

Better yet- a series about young Garak. Perhaps his time in the obsidian order. Or after the dominion war.

4

u/j-orgey24 1d ago

DS9 writers only please.

4

u/Morlock19 1d ago

so when i saw the frist season of star trek: picard, i thought it was going to be an anthology show. starts off focusing on picard, he gets his end, and then moves on to seven of nine. and then that might dove tail into kira, or obrien. each season checks in on a classic character in the 25th century - we might see them blossom into something new, we might see them getting the finale they deserved, we might see some die, but it would be a fresh story every year.

this would have been season 3 imo.

4

u/Matthias_Doe 1d ago

And many, many years in the future we check in on….. Ensign Kim.

3

u/Morlock19 1d ago

woah hey now

in a couple decades he'll be LT JG!

4

u/klenen 1d ago

Omg. Yes please.

3

u/klenen 1d ago

This could be trek’s Andor?

3

u/Remote_Salt_1137 22h ago

Given the track record of the last decade I wouldn't trust them with Miles.

5

u/itsyaboythatguy 19h ago

so long as the get Ira back to be the show runner. it would also need Bashir and Garak as recurring characters.

8

u/Joe-Stapler 1d ago

He needs to spend two full seasons chasing the Swede.

3

u/captainwanejay 1d ago

At least the NuTrek writers wouldn’t have to make up any new trauma or suffering

3

u/Psychological_Ad2080 1d ago

In at least 3 of the 12 seasons, and 4 movies of this show, I want to see more holodeck time with Julian. Show us the Alamo, and dogfighting in ww1...

I’ve seen it at least a dozen times, but Honor Among Thieves is a fave, up there, for me, with By the Pale Moonlight & Rocks & Shoals.

3

u/Seltgar25 1d ago

Shut up and take my money

3

u/PROUDCIPHER 1d ago

I would love it, but given the state of most of modern Trek right now I'm afraid they'd just make him a gleeful war criminal and lean way, way too hard on the Miles "Cardie Killer" O'Brien schtick, and we'd get to see Molly only long enough to see that she's developed a debilitating neurosis. idk maybe I'm being overly cynical but I just don't have a lot of trust right now. Thank god LD and SNW are good, so it's not all bad

3

u/RazuliR 1d ago

I need this so bad 😩

3

u/grafxguy1 1d ago

OMG, don't tease me like that!

3

u/biscuitsandburritos 1d ago

6 seasons and a movie! Make him suffer!!

3

u/Practical-Owl-9358 1d ago

One episode should be him living an entire season compressed into that episode.

3

u/Animal907 1d ago

He finally makes MASTER CHIEF!

3

u/LeDestrier 1d ago

Station Nightmares.

Has O'Brien unleashed, going around to various Federation deep space stations and tearing the staff a new one for the state of disrepair and shoddy workmanship.

3

u/mjorkk 1d ago

Watch it be the most light-hearted, utopian, and optimistic the show has been outside of animation, just to mirror Picard’s inappropriate tone.

3

u/Annie-Smokely 1d ago

That tag line is kino

3

u/ladyjayne81 1d ago

No way, man, that would be three of the most depressing, anxiety-causing seasons. That poor man!

3

u/FiduciaryBlueberry 1d ago

Starfleet Academy but set after the Dominion War with O'Brien on earth, teaching. Maybe he is caught up in some starfleet intelligence shenanigans

O'Brien, fifty tropes of pain.

3

u/John_Tacos 13h ago

O’Brian teaching at Starfleet Academy.

Episode 3 his daughter shows up in his class (she enrolled without telling him).

The show follows his family and her friends and classmates. As the events of other shows happen around them.

A training mission gone wrong where he has to engineer a way out of a problem.

Molly saves her classmates on a class survival lesson with lessons she learned from her father.

There is definitely enough for a series

Honest question - is Keiko dead? Cause if so, and like ten years ago so our boy is over it and getting back out there awkwardly on Deep Space 12? Yeah three seasons aren’t going to be quite enough, but a good start.

A two pronged show featuring Miles at the Academy and serving on various boards creating policy, and Molly having to deal with the fallout of how those policies affect the lower ranks could make for a dramatic show.

u/SirDalavar 1d ago

Sure, it's just re-runs of the episode "hard time" played 30 times back to back

2

u/goodBEan 1d ago

Well because of Star Trek Acadamy we are not going to get the Emissary or the return of Avery Brooks (concept title https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PbOqlimFlo)

2

u/HoneySport11 1d ago

2

u/Levi_Skardsen 1d ago

I don't trust the current showrunners to treat Miles with the respect he deserves.

2

u/PastorNTraining 1d ago

If we have a PIC era Academy show where the legends like the EMH, Janeway and O’Brien being the commodore would have been great.

The “working man runs university” angle would be great. Molly would be an adult and his son could have been the new cadet we could have POV’ed.

We would have gotten DS9, familiar faces and we could have still tackled the progressive storytelling we see in the DISCO era, but I’d argue those issue, grounded and framed by 90s era characters would have been a better experience.

2

u/Nowhereman50 1d ago

It would be nice but it would literally be 3 seasons of O'Brian fast-walking around fixing things with an annoyed look on his face.

Got a good laugh out of one of the earlier episodes of DS9 where a Klingon is holding O'Brian hostage and fires a disruptor at the ceiling as a threat. O'Brian looked up where it hit like, "Yeah, good. I'll have to fix that too."

2

u/punkindle 1d ago

Wasn't he teaching at the Academy?

2

u/Expensive_Guidance95 1d ago

No. Simply because Star Trek has routinely ripped down and torn down legacy characters to basically replace them with some sub-par replacement.

I also think O'Brien is the wrong person to focus on because he doesn't consider himself a hero, he's incredibly modest and I like where we've left him at the end of DS9, he doesn't need more poking into or more cameos (etc)

NGL - I want a non-legacy, completely new show with a new cast set after DS9 by a decade or two without the Picard elements. Just give us something completely new with the old intent of Star Trek which was less grimdark depressing.

Season 3 the old gang busts him out of the hospital, sticks a comm badge right on his hospital gown and screams, "Everyone not old has been turned into Borg! We need you to--" set blows up sending rocks and blue ribbon lightning in all directions

He technically already had his own Inner Light equivalent, but they could do a new one about his alternate life as a cheese mongrel who ends up reuniting with his lost son, before tragically passing away.

It always bothered me that we only ever really spend time with Officers in Startrek. I'd have loved to have seen more NCOs or enlisted.

I would love it but I read in an interview Colms not all that interested in coming back. His reasoning was he did trek for 16 years
