Hi there! I’m about to graduate and I’ve taken a huge interest towards dermatology. Before I dedicate about 12 years of my life towards education, is this career worth it in the long run? What courses should I focus on in post-secondary? I would love to hear some experiences as well, and any resources you’re able to share.
My high-school grades were a tad bit rough and the idea of a highly competitive program is daunting as someone with anxiety. Besides this I’m motivated to work hard but I would love some advice.

I’m a counsellor and work in the BFRB (body-focused repetitive behaviour) space, particularly with people experiencing skin picking (excoriation disorder) and hair pulling.

I spend a lot of time hearing about these conditions from the behavioural and mental health side, but I’d really love to understand more about the dermatologist’s experience.

Do you often see patients whose skin concerns are related to picking? How does it usually come up in an appointment? And what do you find helpful when someone may need support beyond treating the skin itself?

I’m also really interested in the space where dermatology and behavioural support can work alongside each other. I’d love to connect with any dermatologists here who are open to chatting, sharing what they’ve learned from their work, or potentially collaborating on education or resources in the future.

Mostly, I’m here to learn from you and hopefully make some connections with professionals working with the same people from a different side of their care.

Hi, current MS1 at T20 med school. I’m in TX where there is a lot of talk about how midlevels are becoming more independent and taking up many physician roles and blending the lines between midlevel and physician. (Physician associate title, failed nurse anesthesiologist title, independent practicing rights, etc). Will this negatively impact the future of dermatology in 10+ years? I’m super interested in Mohs Surgery, is that at less of a risk?

I also acknowledge PAs and Midlevels play important roles in healthcare. I’m not dogging on them.

So i just entered highschool last week and my goal has been to become a dermatologist for a few years now. Id always assumed it would be attainable because ive always been smart and hardworkin, but i recently saw a video talking about how actually getting into derm is extremely competitive, which i never considered. I know freshman year is probably a little early to be trying to stack my resume, (or maybe its late i dont really know) but im just looking for some tips or thing i should be trying to do in highschool to up my chances in the future. A few things to note is i go to an EXTREMELY small school (like less than 200 students overall and 11:1 teacher to student ratio small) so im not sure they can offer anything i could do other than ap classes. Im willing to do things outside of school to prepare me, my moms also in the medical field so she may be able to help guide me, shes already suggested medical summer camps that last a week or two. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

Study Purpose:
Artificial intelligence is a rapidly evolving field that may help support clinicians as they evaluate challenging medical cases. This study seeks to assess how clinicians' diagnostic performance changes when they are provided with AI-generated differential diagnoses.

Procedures:
We are inviting dermatology residents, fellows, and attending dermatologists to participate. Participation involves completing a single online survey that takes approximately 20 minutes. The survey will include clinical cases and questions related to diagnostic decision-making.

There may be no direct benefit to you from participating. Hi, I have picked on my nose skin cuz I feel like it's a bump. I viewed it carefully and my skin is actually peeled like I have scratched it. The US federal government has proposed a 9% cut to dermatology payment. This will not only reduce reimbursement, but also reduce patient access to dermatology services and quality of service. Do everything and anything you can to help stop this!
