The Edie Britt Show I refuse to believe Edie would let her nails look like this

There is NO WAY that the Queen Edie would be caught dead (yes I see the irony) with her nails like that! Maybe it was intentional 🧐

It's hard to keep shocking your audience after so many seasons. And this reveal at the end of S6E4 was just so good.

It immediately tied all the first 4 episodes together and I just love a good twist.

Idk where this will go, not far I presume, but I'm excited for this season.

General Discussion (may contain spoilers) What could they have done differently with Gabby?

I already made one other post about Edie but what about gabby’s character. I like her character/storyline. But in season 1 she was real self centered, only cared about shopping obviously was in an affair . I know she has kids later on but what could they have done differently? I feel like they should’ve done more with her and her career what if she was still modeling, or maybe something more than modeling that fits her personality

The Edie Britt Show What do you wish they would’ve done differently with Edie’s personality and story?

I wish Edie would’ve had a different story besides her sleeping around and flirting with every guy. She should’ve been apart of the friend group between the girls instead of being seen as the person who will steal their husband’s. I wish they would’ve kept her on the show and gave her a good love story with a guy who loves her and idk maybe introduce her being a mother to her son who is with the ex husband. Like what her being a full time mother would’ve looked like . Anyone else wish the same for her storyline?

Rewatch Thoughts (may contain spoilers) Katherine and _____ Spoiler

I think instead of the Bree-Karl romance (yuck), it would have been more interesting if Katherine hooked up with Karl instead of Mike! It makes more sense imo, Katherine and Mike always felt like such a mismatch to me, and the Susan-Mike divorce always felt so lame. Am I delusional for thinking a Katherine and Karl ship should have happened?

The Edie Britt Show Edie Britt deserves more appreciation as a character

I feel like Edie Britt gets judged way too harshly compared to the other women on Desperate Housewives. Yes, she could be manipulative, selfish, blunt, and sometimes downright messy — but honestly, that’s part of what made her such an interesting character.
What I appreciate about Edie is that she never pretended to be something she wasn’t. She was confident in her sexuality, independent, ambitious, and completely unapologetic about wanting more out of life. Beneath all the sarcasm and toughness, though, there was clearly someone who desperately wanted to be loved and accepted.
I also think Edie had some of the most realistic insecurities on the show. Her confidence often felt like a defense mechanism, and you could see how much rejection and loneliness affected her. She wanted connection just as much as the other women — she just expressed it in a much more complicated way.
And honestly, she brought something to the show that nobody else could. Whenever Edie was around, things became more unpredictable, funny, and uncomfortable in the best possible way. She challenged the other characters instead of simply fitting into their group dynamic.
Edie definitely wasn’t a perfect person, but I don’t think she was supposed to be. She was flawed, complicated, entertaining, and surprisingly vulnerable. That’s what makes her one of the more memorable characters on the show.
Team Edie appreciation post. 😭

First Time Watcher Lynette was at fault for the break up on S7

This is my first time watching Desperate Housewives and I’m currently on S7. I’ve been seeing a lot of opinions about Tom and Lynette’s marriage, mostly people upset with Tom because of how much of a man child he is. Honestly, I agree. Tom piss me the f off especially in the earlier seasons so when I see people also say Lynette is to blame, I often wonder what made them say that.

Come S7, and they managed to make Lynette unreasonable. This was especially evident during their fight about where to go for vacation. I mean, the man just wanted to take everyone for a nice expensive vacation and you openly show your disdain in front of your kids? And oh god, the constant undermining of Tom. She’s the one who pushed him to get this job, so why is she upset that he is doing everything he can to keep it?

She’s never happy. There’s always a but. I just finished the scene where Tom revealed that he had their engagement ring reset for a bigger and fancier stone since he remembered how unhappy she was with it and her reaction was “I like the first one better”?

Hot take, they should’ve divorced and gone out with other people

SPOILER Mike Delfino is an evil man. Spoilers up to S7E6 Spoiler

Mike and Tom fight each other for the worst husband character every episode I watch. Mike’s a little bitch. He finds out that Zach Young is his son so he pressures Susan into being around this demented little twerp that held her hostage at gun point and then runs off from her while she’s in her wedding dress (after dodging the whole marriage conversation I might add) because he found out she lied about seeing him and “sending him away” which honestly was doing him a favor. I decided I hated him then, but when he started using drugs again and lying and sneaking around Susan (after the big fucking deal he made about her dishonesty, oh brother), digging himself into a financial hole he never seems to get out of, and then blackmails and endangers his neighbors to continue sneaking around and using drugs in her home behind her back I was beyond done with him.
Now he makes poor financial choices by owning a vehicle he can’t afford instead of a cheaper cash truck to get him to and from work, doesn’t collect payment from work he’s done, MAKES HIS WIFE GO AND COLLECT HIS CLIENT’S DEBT, doesn’t raise his prices accordingly seeing as he’s obviously getting plenty of work and isn’t making enough, the reasonable thing to do would be to slightly increase prices so that you can hire help to take more jobs… duh, and then because of his poor finances which once again HE CHOSE TO LIE TO SUSAN ABOUT (when her one lie was his big reason for leaving her in the street) he lets her rent out the home her children grew up in and RIPS OUT THE SENTIMENTAL DOOR FRAME in some lame attempt at a romantic gesture, makes her move into a shitty apartment where she knows nobody, and then has not a dollar to his name and yet all the audacity to be mad at HER when she felt the need to resort to sex work out of necessity in order to help her family????????
Somehow, within of all of this, he finds the time to enter a relationship with her friend, left her multiple times, was dishonest with her from the start, actually attempted to murder Paul Young and threatened to do it AGAIN after he blackmailed her, also I’m pretty sure he just abandoned Bongo because we never hear about him again but maybe I’m forgetting something. Also are we forgetting about how he literally pushed her down the stairs when she was pregnant????? He interferes with her parenting decisions with Julie multiple times. He manipulates her into naming their child a different name last minute that she was not interested in which was so selfish. He also was a piece of shit to Katherine when they were together, like he chose to get into that relationship with her friend and then was pining for Susan the whole time and only agreed to marry her after he thought she was off the market and then abruptly changed his mind and got back with her, like ok she went overboard but I get why Katherine had her breakdown he treated her horribly. Also Mike was literally paying for sex work at Karl’s strip club the whole time so unbelievably hypocritical to be upset with her for doing the reverse.
He was so selfish and toxic and insecure in his masculinity that he wouldn’t accept Susan’s help financially despite the fact that he ended up dragging them both down. I scream at him every time I see his bitch ass because I wish she would have chosen Ian. Her life would just be so much better off. He also brings absolutely nothing to the table in order to offset any of this. He’s just rotten from start to finish and has no development or humor or drive to do any better he’s just a bum and I would never want this type of man in my friend’s or my own life at all!!!!!

General Discussion (may contain spoilers) Lol Bree would never do this Spoiler

The scene where Bree catches Andrew with his boyfriend in bed is so funny to me because the scene only happens because she brings him breakfast in bed.

Not only had he been impossible to her up until that point, but is she seriously the type to bring her kids breakfast in bed, especially with the crumbs and everything? She seems like the breakfast-at-a-certain-time-at-the-dinner-table type of mom, not exactly the type to bring her kids breakfast in bed.

Okay so i was watching knots landing and i realised Abby's son is played by Brian Austin Green(kieth)! this is a super crazy coinsidence, and he even has some scenes with Nicollette Sheridan. Unfortunatly, he left knots a couple years before marcia cross went on, but he did go back in 1997 for knots landing back to the cul-de-sac.

Does anyone else get a kick out of seeing Desperate Housewives cast members show up in Firefly? It feels like there's one every episode. I do find it especially bizarre how many there are, considering it was such a short-lived show. Well worth watching if you're a fan of sci-fi, by the way, even today.

Pictured - Nathan Fillion (Adam Mayfair), Doug Savant (Tom Scavo), Richard Burgi (Karl Meyer), Gregory Itzin (Dick Barrows), Carlos Jacott (Gary Grantham). There are a few other one-episode side characters I didn't bother to put in (Andy Umberger, Michael Hitchcock, Dennis Cockrum etc), but these are the main highlights.

Unpopular Opinion People need to stop romanticizing Bree: She was a textbook toxic, abusive mother to Danielle and the worst mother of the main four. By far. Spoiler

I know Bree is a fan favourite here but her treatment of Danielle is indefensible. While I can confidently say the other housewives, despite their flaws, loved their children, Bree often seems to genuinely despise Danielle.

(1) She blamed Danielle for being groomed by her teacher.

Gaby constantly (and rightfully) gets called out for her statutory rape of John, but Bree gets a pass for how she handled Danielle. Bree blamed her daughter for being statutorily raped, stayed silent to protect her social standing, and was perfectly willing to let a predator keep his job working with children.

In blaming their child for being raped I think Gaby's mother was far more despicable than Bree, since she was driven by malice and jealousy, whereas Bree acted out of misguided pride and control. Ultimately, though, the end result for both daughters is that their mothers blamed them for the actions of an adult predator (for me, this is an unforgivable thing to do to your child).

Do people give Bree a pass just because her motivations weren't as purely evil as Lucia's? Or do they think what Danielle's teacher did wasn't bad because he groomed her first to get "consent"?

(2) She stole Danielle's son.

I've seen this excused as "she didn't steal him" and "Danielle agreed"

Bree took Benjamin, falsified paperwork, and planned to conceal him from Danielle's and Austin's lawful custody permanently, her actions meet the standard for child abduction in pretty much every state. What she did also falls under kidnapping by fraud.

She also used isolation (the convent) and bribes to force a teenager into compliance. Legally, taking a child under such coerced or falsified consent is treated like taking a child without permission. You don't get to manipulate a child and then go to court and say "but they agreed"

Wanting to maintain the perfect image was more important to her than the best interests of her daughter and grandson. Before he was even born, she had selfishly decided Benjamin's entire foundation would be built on a lie that only benefits her and her self-image.

There was no good reason she couldn't have offered to help raise him as her grandchild instead of planning to lie to him for his entire life.

(3) She constantly insulted and belittled Danielle.

Like a lot of people, I find those quotes funny, but in the context of a parent saying it to their child, there's no way around it - they're toxic and cruel.

General Discussion (may contain spoilers) Mike is irritating

I'm almost halfway through Season 6, and I still don't really get what makes Mike so appealing. At first I understood why Susan and Edie were interested in him... he had that mysterious cool-guy vibe, but Katherine completely crashing out THAT BAD over him makes no sense to me. He's also so boring post-coma??

I just watched the episode where Susan gets upset about Mike going to the strip club. Everyone has different boundaries, and for some people this would be cheating, for some it wouldn't be. But Susan clearly sees it as disrespectful to their relationship, and considering Karl constantly cheated on her, I feel like Mike should've been a lot more understanding instead of just dismissing her feelings. He's also such a hypocrite about it! He can stare at other women like that but gets mad about Susan being up on the stage?

What's the appeal with him?

First Time Watcher I liked Dave. Spoiler

Maybe because S5 was more goofy than serious, his presence on screen was always somewhat humorous, especially once we know why he's there.

His story is sad as hell don't get me wrong. Literally just a man who went crazy cuz he lost everything. But his dynamic with Edie, and the way he moves and have internal thoughts were very fun to watch (and of course that stance of his lol)

Overall his presence wasn't as ominous as the other season 'villains' and once you know his reasons and that it's tied to a Wisteria Lane resident, it actually becomes so much more interesting, not to mention the layers to it waiting for him to find out that it was Susan who was driving that car.

I'm not sure what is the general consensus here about S5. But it was one fun season!! Dreaded the Bree and Orson fall and Edie's death , but in general a very good season with a lot of texture to all the characters!

First Time Watcher First time watcher. I’m not sure I can continue 🫣

This is my first time watching this show - at the ripe age of 30. And I had a really fun time watching season one despite how truly cringe so much of it was. (Susan throwing herself a mike made to her unbearable) but I really liked her apart from that, the actress that plays Bree is phenomenal, Lynnette was my favorite with her scheming and Gabby was… well Gabby, and I love her for that.
But I’m over halfway through season two and holy smokes everything has gotten a bit too painful! Tom and Lynnette’s work / home dynamic, Carlos becoming suddenly religious and worst of all Andrew being the worst possible human alive is making me feel insane.
I don’t avoid spoilers (don’t at me, it brings my anxiety peace) and I feel like I see so much sh*t talking about the characters in later seasons I’m like… should I even bother continuing? I was excited to see the time jump but I feel like it might just get more and more painful at this point, maybe I just cut my losses.
Thoughts?

Edit: wow people are really protective of this show. To the point of being kinda mean about it.

Obviously I’m invested - that’s why I posted this. Honestly, Andrew beating himself up and suing Bree sent me into a rage which is why I made this post. If I didn’t care, I’d just stop watching. I was just looking for some honest thoughts because I do want to continue but it’s been challenging.

First Time Watcher Edie has been my favorite character Spoiler

Watching show for the first time, and I've just finished s5e19, and I'm legit bummed.

Edie has been my favorite on the show, I might go as far as to say that to me, at least, she was the heart of the show.

Edie was a queen, and Nicollette Sheridan was great in the role. I'll miss that.

SPOILER What's wrong with Gaby Spoiler

I am watching season 8 and I can't with Gaby, she is so selfish it pisses me off. I mean after Alejandros death she acted like nothing was wrong, she was not helping Carlos whenever he wanted to talk about it she makes it about something else and after Ben and Mike try to cover up the body and Susan gets to know the truth she acts like its Susan's fault to have a conscience, don't get me wrong bree was at fault here too but Gaby is a different level of selfish.
