Discussion Raid checkpoints should remember which roles each player has completed

Raid reports tell us whether someone cleared an encounter, but not what they learned during it. A player can have twenty clears while repeating one role, then join a teaching run and still need every other mechanic explained.

I want a role tracker for each encounter. After a clear, players could mark which job they performed: runner, reader, plate holder, damage setup, or whatever applies. It need not grant rewards or affect matchmaking. It would help people plan groups and give players a reason to learn the less popular jobs.

Yes, people could mark roles they barely touched or lie outright. The current clear count is already a weak measure of competence, though. A volantary tracker would at least start a more useful converstation than “you have enough clears, so you must know everything.”

Would you personally use something like this, or would it create more gatekeeping than it solves?

No lol

The day after a raid drops u already have those elitist morons asking for 10+ clears/dm RR etc

People lie, like a lot.

You’ll have people who will join and say they’ve had hundreds of clears and you check their raid report and it’s <10.

Game makes you judge people based on their performance in front of you, and that’s ok in my books.

Someone posted yesterday that they have 5000+ hours since Into the Light.

Someone commented that that’s 6 hours a day, daily, for 2 and a half years

People lie, like a lot

I think while it would be helpful it would indeed create more gatekeeping than it solves. We don't want to end up like world of warcraft.

There are no roles though, it's the players that make them up.

The idea is usefull for personal tracking, but public role badges would become another checklist for group leaders. Keep the detailed history private by defualt and let players share it manually. Otherwise people will demand five clears on every role before allowing someone into a run that could have taught them in ten minutes.

Still gatekeeping PVE.... ok, carry on I guess. I think you'll find that this will take care of itself since almost no one will be raiding in a month or two.

They could not get basic things done in the life of D2 , Wish as well but lets hope for a better Dev if a D3 comes

as for gatekeeping prob knowing how poeple are but it may be worth it for those who will like this /

I would use it constantly for my own groups. The hardest part of teaching is not finding people with clears, it is discovering halfway through that all five learned the same position. A role history would let a leader assign two familiar jobs and rotate the rest without interrogating everyone first. I would avoid permanent badges, though. Raid roles change between strategies, and some groups split a mechanic differently. Treating the tracker as a notebook rather than proof of skill would keep it useful without pretending the data is objective.
