Question No Backup Plans Interaction
Saw a strange interaction while on Strand Titan running No Backup Plans.While standing in a teammate's healing rift just to the point where I got a generic overshield. I then got a shotgun kill which put a Void Overshield timer in my buff feed.
Is this an unintended interaction that will turn a generic/weak OS into a strong-DR void OS? Or is it just a visual thing?
Perk reads: ...While you have a defensive buff (Void Overshield, Amplified, Restoration, Frost Armor, Woven Mail), your Shotguns and melees deal additional damage and final blows with either extend the duration of those buffs...

Probably something you could test easily, in two ways: grab a Warlock friend with Healing Rift, then you equip Void with Offensive Bulwark and Controlled Demolition, and head to the firing range.
First test: have your Warlock friend drop their Rift, you stand inside it, and kill something with your shotgun. If you see "Void Overshield" appear on your HUD, what does your friend see? Do you have the purple glow around you that only the Void keyword grants? Do you retain the shield when you leave the Rift, or does it fall off like the regular Rift shield?
Second test: while you have a Void Overshield and Offensive Bulwark, regular melees are considered Void abilities and will apply Volatile via Controlled Demolition. Follow the steps above, Rift > shotgun kill, then if you see Void Overshield appear, turn and punch something with an uncharged melee. Does it become Volatile?
If shotgun kills will consistently turn a generic Rift shield into Void Overshield, then I'm really curious about another interaction: will the same thing happen with the generic overshield granted by having over 100 in the Class stat? ~`If it does, could be an interesting piece of tech for Prismatic, run Twilight Arsenal for the Void buff on NBP, pop Thruster for the generic shield, blast something with a shotgun to turn that shield into the Void keyword.~~ (Edit: OP confirmed that NBP does not do anything with generic Class overshields, which is the expected interaction.)
Might check this out later for fun, at least if you don't post results before I have time to test it myself haha

I'd have to have friends who play destiny, to test ;-;

Fair point haha, I'm a solo player 95% of the time as well, I feel you!
Try the testing with the Class overshield, in that case? See what you can get!

Okay, I tested it with the class overshield and there was seemingly zero interaction. No Void OS timer appeared in the buff tray and my OS bar did not seem to increase.

We can rule that one out at least, alrighty then! That's honestly the expected behavior, so that's good haha

It also adds 15 health to any existing Void Overshield on shotgun kill, so if the rift shield is coded the same, that'll do it.
