I have a theory on the Duren contract standoff. I think the amount is not the main holdup. I think a major holdup is the Pistons likely want his contract to be in descending order because this is how Trajon like to set up contracts on players he is not entirely sure on and we need to be able to afford Ausar Thompson’s next deal.

I have a feeling we don’t care paying Duren 40 million this year but each year we likely want to pay him less. His fifth year I could see being lower like 25-30 million. So instead of paying Duren like he and his agent wants where the contract typically increases every year we are likely trying to front loading his contract in the beginning while Ausar is still on his rookie year and then when the Ausar max extension comes around his contract shrinks.

This probably pisses his agent off because it shrinks his second contract down the line especially if he underperforms in his slightly smaller contract years and a smaller contract makes him easier to be traded.

I could actually see the Pistons wanting to give Duren a massive number in year one then shrink dramatically as years go by. That would explain why we didn’t give Cade a real offensive second option to work with because we might need to massively overpay Duren year 1 to make him “happy”

Enough is Enough!!! He earned the money! You had your chance to low ball him last summer and even right before the season with a reduced extension. YOU DIDN’T!!! He out performed all of our expectations (All Star, NBA 3rd team, 1st overall in the East) it’s time to reward him.

I hope our draft luck gets better for these next 25 years starting with Ron Holland now we got Okorie 🙏🏾🙏🏾. Best bright spot from the last 25 years has been Cade then Ausar.

He played around 19-21 mpg in OKC. We all know they have great death at the guard positions, and his role was just to make it rain from deep. Could we see some improvement with his overall game/playing time and see him make a jump?
