We are seeking moderators for an exciting new Discord community for disabled, neurodivergent and chronically ill lesbians!

To apply, you’ll need to be:

🌈 Female-identifying or non-binary and a lesbian
🌈 Someone with lived experience of disability, neurodivergence and/or chronic illness
🌈 Kind, self-aware and able to work well as part of a team with mixed abilities and energy levels

Experience with Discord or running online communities is desirable, but not required. What matters most is that you’re supportive, approachable and want to help create a welcoming, safe community.

We're only seeking moderators at the moment but look forward to opening the community to new members later in the year.

This subreddit is very quiet and I am not sure how to help people find it.

Does anyone know if we're allowed to post in r/disability to tell people this subreddit exists? I've read their rules plenty of times but I am still unsure.

Their Rule 3 says no promotion but I have also seen subreddits advertised there before. I reckon I could modmail and ask them but I haven't gotten around to it.

Anyways, any advice is welcome!

Today is the last day of disability pride month and while I was a lot less social this year due to extenuating circumstances, I am very grateful for my friends and chosen family who made time for me this month. I drove up to visit my best friends this past week and I didn't once feel pressured to pick up the pace, over exert myself, or otherwise pretend to be able bodied. At the same time, none of my friends babied or infantilized me and let me communicate on my terms.

I had forgotten, I think, what it's like to be around people who understand accessibility, disability justice, and my own dynamic disabilities. On top of that, my trip with them was the longest period of time since I had to move away that I haven't been misgendered. I've really missed that!

It was nice to be in queer company that is also anti ableist. I'm just taking some time to reflect on that today and to hold onto that gratitude as we transition into this next month.

I want to celebrate being disabled and being queer for the first time! I’m finally at the place where its something I want to mark as it’s been a long road to get to this point (not feeling internally ashamed for both)

I’m housebound so does anyone have any suggestions for celebrating this month? I think I’d like to do something for myself by myself just to mark the work I’ve done to get to this point and to celebrate how amazing it feels not feeling so ashamed! (Although I’m not out to everyone and don’t like discussing my sexuality with most, only close friends so that’s another reason to celebrate on the down low)

I’m proud but not openly proud like most, I have to protect myself too! But that doesn’t mean I don’t get to celebrate in my own way so any suggestions would be appreciated!

so I've been posting it in trans male subreddits recently, trying to get advice for passing that won't negatively impact my already bad health. oftentimes I'm either told I'm just not trying hard enough or faking, and that's the only way I could pass is by working out more. whenever I state that I cannot work out, because I am disabled, I'm just told that I'm faking being trans and want attention. and since my disability can occasionally have different symptoms, especially since I have more than one disability, I'm often told that I'm faking because of inconsistencies. this has been more of a problem recently. the amount of times I've been called a liar in the past few days, or just told that I shouldn't ask for advice when I won't accept it (cuz it would be unsafe) is insane to me.

disabled teen here. pots, cfs and chronic pain, not gonna go into details but genetic condition that causes lots of pain particularly in my lower body. over the last year or so I’ve lost my ability to do a lot of things I used to enjoy doing. Im going to a pride parade with my family later this month and have been considering using a wheelchair instead of my crutches or rollator. my mom wants me to get a ride on the float for people with limited mobility. I don’t want to. it feels isolating, and it makes me feel so much grief for what I used to take for granted. we have the option to borrow a wheelchair from a friend. I want to do this. my mom is worried she’ll end up pushing me and it’ll hurt her back because the handles are too low. I don’t want my girlfriend to end up having to push me, but I don’t know if my arms are strong enough to push myself for miles. and my mom keeps telling me that we should just go on the float, it’ll be easier for everyone. i just hate feeling like a burden on my family, and I hate that I can’t do the same things anymore. my rollator isn’t the best choice as its not very good at uphills or uneven pavement. my parents think I can just do it on my crutches, but I want to be able to fully enjoy the experience. I don’t want to be tired, or thinking about how long I’ll be able to go. I don’t want to ruin this experience for my girlfriend or my family. I miss being healthy.

anyway if anyone knows how to quickly build the muscles needed to propel myself in a manual chair that would be quite helpful haha

hi reddit! Normally I’d never go to reddit of all places for this , as I’m deathly afraid of yall , but I fear I actually do need some help , and this is the largest gathering of disabled people I could think of. I’m somebody with POTS, chronic pain, and dyspraxia, making lifting my arms above my head difficult to nearly impossible. This makes showers, getting dressed, and sometimes even putting on deodorant incredibly difficult. It’s gotten to the point where my hair is matted and oily, and I just haven’t been able to shower for at least a week (I’ve been using body wipes for my body, but hair is another issue). Does anyone with physical (or invisible!) disabilities have tips or tricks for showers? I really need to be able to wash my hair and body without assistance, and get dressed on my own, since my parents have been home increasingly less.
