HAE noticed that Dolly Parton was NOT uncanny valley?

I've just been getting way more clips of her lately (RIP sweet angel queen), both old clips and new clips, and its no secret Dolly ended up getting a lot of plastic surgery as the years went on.

It hit me though while watching her, she might've even technically fit in the "botched" category near the end, it sometimes looks like her lips cant close fully, her face was frozen in lots of spots, big bleached hair and big thick makeup.

Yet never once did it actually give me uncanny valley vibes like faces with that amount of work usually do. Her smile couldn't technically reach her eyes when i paused it but if you're just watching her talk it still felt like it! Even though I could objectively tell she had a lot of work done, it didn't make her look less "human" like it so often can. I wonder if anyone else has noticed that?

Oh Dolly, always gorgeous inside and out no matter what form you take! You will be missed!

ETA: im sorry for those that are being hurt by the word botched! It's a very intense word, I get it. To try to be clearer, im specifically talking about the type of plastic surgery that prevents the body from doing what it naturally is supposed to do. Im defining it as "lips cant fully close, eyelids cant fully close, cant smile or frown". For me im defining more by the surgeons job. If the human face cant move like the human face, i believe they messed up their job. I do NOT mean to use it synonymously with "ugly".

I think objectively, Dolly's face couldn't move quite like how it's meant to by the end, I do NOT think that makes her ugly, or even that that's not what she wanted for herself! She always spoke of freezing, and nip and tucking herself.

I solely meant that, while there was less movement (and so supposedly less capacity to express emotion) it didn't come off like that when she was interacting with someone. And I think that's really cool.

Also; I know that bringing up the discussion of plastic surgery in and of itself makes us start walking the line of talking about health, but this post is not meant to be somewhere we theorize about her health, just a fan talking about how "real" she felt to the last. Please try to refrain from health judgements even if it feels tricky. This isn't a plastic surgery bashing post. Thank you

DAE miss being a kid? I mean to the point where it causes depression

I’m 30 years old and it’s like everything is hitting me at once

- I miss my grandparents, I only have one left and dementia has turned her into a shell of her former self.

- I miss going over to my grandparents house.

- I miss when my parents were much younger.

- I miss elementary school

- I miss middle school

- I miss high school

- I miss my childlike innocence

- I miss my childhood pets

- I miss playing outside as a kid

- I miss when my parents could make any of my worries go away

- I miss being tucked in at night

- I miss being told bedtime stories

- I miss watching cartoons before school

- I miss my only worry being homework or what I was going to do with my friends the next day

- I miss when the world wasn’t so connected and dependent on clicks and content

- I miss when physical third places to hang out actually still existed.

- I miss the overall more positive attitude of society

- I miss when I didn’t have existential dread

- I miss when I wasn’t negative all the time

- I miss swinging on swings at the par

- I miss when things weren’t so partisan and when we weren’t all at each others throats

- I miss having optimism for the future

- I miss when I didn’t have health issues

- I miss my childhood

- I miss when my old neighborhood had kids playing. Now nobody goes outside

- I miss……. ME

DAE feel the desire to just say F everyone and disable all their social media?

I’m sure this is probably a pretty popular one, but I’ve been feeling really irritated lately at the amount of people that just watch my stories and never interact with me ever. A lot of these people are supposed to be friends or at the very least peers that at one point cared about me and still do some degree due and watch all my stories and follow me yet. Never like them never really respond to them never reach out to me… It’s starting to feel really heavy. I’ve been trying to weed out people that just watch and don’t interact but lately I feel like it’s nearly every single person and I’m starting to wonder why I even bother.

DAE get super uncomfortable eating in total silence at someone's house or restaurant?

Had dinner at a new friend's house last weekend and we literally sat down and ate the second we got there. No music, no time to warm up, and his wife is pretty shy. Just forks clinking. It got better after we ate but wow those first 20 minutes were painful.

Then we went to a diner the other night and they had rock music going at a decent volume and it made everything so much easier. Nobody feels pressure to talk constantly when there's music. I don't get why more places don't figure this out.

DAE accidentally pee through the cracks of the toilet seat while taking a dump?

I recently moved into a new apartment and the toilet is different than what I’m used to, so a few times I have gone on autopilot and done this. And yes my Johnson might be small and I’m not afraid to say it, just wondering if this happens to anyone else.

DAE get confused and feel a sense of laughter when someone is crying?

Hi there!

I noticed that people crying leads to me feeling confused and also like I am about to laugh or it makes me feel partially strangely positive in general.

I believe due to the fact that crying sometimes sounds so much like laughing and it just is an incredible weird situation that I do not know how to deal with.

Still, I never spoke to anybody about that and I am wondering.

Thanks for taking your time to read my post and answer!

DAE find the sound of the cutlery against the food and/or the plate annoying?

Upvotes

I find it extremly annoying and I don't have a reason to feel that way, but it does make me genuinely angry and I don't know why. And oh my god that squeaky sound pasta makes, I can't stand it. It's not even disgusting, it's simply annoying.

DAE have this habit in the bathroom?

In the bathroom, I am very picky with what my hands touch. I have hands assigned for different roles in bathroom. For example my clean hand is my right which is assigned with taking down my pants and the left hand is associated with toilet paper and touching my privates, and I only pick up my pants with one hand which is my right hand. If I see myself intstinctivy picking up my pants with both hands I get agitated, and I may repeat the process again, pulling my pants down and then pulling it with the right hand.

DAE's saliva burn your throat after eating starbursts?

I don't really eat candy, but recently bought a bag of starbursts since it was my favorite as a kid. I've tried eating it a few times, but the first couple I eat turn my saliva into an acidic, very irritating phlem once I swallow the candy. The saliva has trouble going down, and the burning makes me gag and cough bad. It also leaves a poor taste and lingering mild burning in my throat for a while. I'm pretty sure I'm not allergic, so I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

DAE google an ex years later?

Today I had a sudden thought and looked up my ex-boyfriend, whom I dated for over 5 years. It’s been 15 years since we last saw each other, I felt kind of embarrassed doing this. Turns out he moved to wales, married with kids, Honestly, I don’t miss him, especially thinking of how he treated me. But, strangely, I wish he all the best, and I also hope to never see him again.

Has anyone else done this? What’s you thought at the time?

DAE get a little infuriated when people stand in awe of something you could have easily introduced them to.

Now this exact situation hasn't really happened to me (yet) but I've been thinking about this.

Imagine there is something you are incredibly passionate about. İt could be a niche band, a hidden gem restaurant, a specific video game, or a brilliant book. You love this thing. You know it inside out. You're thinking about introducing it to your friends or family because you know they would love it too.

But let's say, even though they know you're somewhat knowledgeable in that specific niche, they just stumble upon it by themselves and come talking about how amazing it is to their circle and it's just... İnfuriating a little you know...

Like they didn't even really cared about it, before they've taken a little closer look at it via some way or other and I really hate these kinds of people.

There was a local youtuber that was specifically talking about this experience in one of his videos I can't remember, he said that before even the movies of Harry Potter came out he read all of them till to the goblet of fire and he said that no one around him gave a single cent about his interest in the series and just when the movies started coming out he said everyone has have had started talking about Harry Potter near him and he said that how infuriating that experience was.

Can anybody relate to this?

DAE Do different voices in their head for all the characters when they read?

This started about a year ago for me, I was reading the legend of Drizzt and was getting a little bored four books in (probably just needed a break with a different series) and I got the idea to pick a voice from the cast of community for each character in the book. Drizzt was obviously Jeff, and Chang was the villain (this was the book about the crystal tower), and I chose Abed as the narrator. I can't remember the whole casting now but it was so much fun. It felt like one of those DnD episodes or GIJoe episode. Oh I had Dean Pelton play as the halfling, and Troy as the young barbarian.

Anyway, then I took a break from reading for a while and now I'm back rereading harry potter, and because I've seen the film's I can do all the voices as the actors. Some are dead easy cause they're so distinct, but I do struggle with Harry and Ron a bit when they were younger. I keep hearing their teenage voices after about film 3.

I chose Dumbledore from the first movie as the narrator, and Dumbledore in the later films for when he speaks. It feels appropriate somehow given how little he talks and how much he knows about what goes on in the castle. Snape and McGonagall are two of my favorites to do as well. Or Hagrid. Really anyone with an iconic voice.

Anyway, I'd love to know what well known celebrity voices you'd choose for your favorite book. Or let me know how it goes if you try it.

Or let me know if you're someone without an inner monologue (narrator voice in your head for everything you do) and try to explain why or why not you can do this if you try.

Edit: Forgot to mention that it does slow down reading somewhat to do it, especially if I put in a bit of pizazz into each line read by the character. But I read at an abysmal 150wpm so it's like adding a few more train cars to an already slow moving engine. 😅

DAE feel like they have less energy for normal tasks these days?

Upvotes

I just noticed that a few years ago, I was unstoppable and had so much energy to do things I wanted, and often felt understimulated because of it.

Now, I feel like I don't have energy to do most things and settle to doom scrolling. Mind you I doom scrolled a lot back then, I didn't see anything wrong with it, but now I know it's detrimental to your health but at the same time it's all I feel like I can do. I have hobbies I want to do but feel too tired physically and mentally.

My lifestyle has changed a lot; I was living at home and working part time while going to college. Now I work full time, go to gym, take care of pets, and have a significantly larger friend group than I did before but I just feel so **exhausted** to the point I'm canceling plans, craving to be at home, and struggle to even take my dog on a walk half the days.

Add on top of that, my job requires constant learning so I'm studying a few hours a week on top of the schedule and I'm just thinking, this is not sustainable how are people doing this for the rest of their lives?

I want to know what is a healthy balance people have discovered that allows them to continually develop and grow their lives without feeling so tired.

DAE struggle to stop thinking about a terrible experience even weeks later?

I (23 F) recently went on a 6-day school project trip to Italy from July 29 to August 4 with two girls I knew, one Korean (21 F) and one Italian (26 F). I was excited about Italy and actually had some really nice memories there, but the experience with these two girls was so exhausting that even weeks later, I still feel intense anger whenever I think about it.

First destination was Rome. The biggest problem was sleep. I have gastritis, and when I don’t sleep properly, I feel physically terrible. I explained this to them, but because we were sharing a hotel room, I had no choice but to wake up whenever they did. They would stay up talking, scrolling Instagram/TikTok, etc. until around 3 AM and then wake up around 6 AM because they wanted to go sightseeing early. When I complained, the Korean girl told me, “If you’re that sensitive, you should have booked your own hotel room.” I couldn’t afford to get another hotel, and I wasn’t asking them to change their whole schedule. I just wanted them to understand that I needed some sleep too. After that, there was constant tension between us, and I felt like she was very self-centered and would call me “sensitive” or “problematic” whenever I expressed that something was bothering me.

Then we took a bus to Florence, and once we arrived, she couldn’t find her suitcase in the baggage area. Apparently, someone had taken it. At the train station, she saw a random girl’s suitcase that looked similar to hers. She hit the girl first and then made her open the suitcase. The poor girl opened it, and there was nothing belonging to my friend inside. The poor girl then hit her back, and the situation became extremely violent. She ended up bleeding badly. Afterward, my friend was obviously devastated because her suitcase was actually gone, and I had to pay extra for a taxi to the hotel. At the hotel, she told me she felt terrible and asked me to stay with her because she couldn’t sleep. I was exhausted and my stomach was hurting, so I told her I needed to sleep. Despite everything, the next morning I still helped her. I gave her my shampoo and facial cleanser and even offered her some of my clothes because almost all of her things were gone. Even after all of that, there were constant misunderstandings between us and the tension never really went away.

When we arrived in Venice, I eventually told her I didn’t want to spend the day together because we’d had so much tension and I simply didn’t enjoy traveling with her anymore. The Italian girl then asked me to go with her, so I agreed. I thought it would be nice to spend some time with someone else. But when the Korean girl saw us together, she became upset and started saying things like,“What’s this? You two are together now and I’m alone?” She then started calling me problematic and saying I don’t get along with anyone, even bringing up an old conflict I had with someone else. At that point, I just felt completely done.

The final night was probably what made everything worse. They both knew I had a 9 AM flight the next morning, but they stayed awake talking random things until around 3 AM with the lights on while I was trying to sleep. I was completely exhausted and felt like they simply didn’t care.

The trip has been over for weeks, but I still get angry when I remember it. I don’t want to see them, and I honestly don’t feel like forgiving them. The problem is that this was a school project, so in about two weeks we have to work together again and give our final presentation. I’m still occasionally messaging the Italian girl, but I feel tension and annoyance even when talking to her. Before the trip, I actually liked her and appreciated her, but after this experience, my opinion of her completely changed.

I don’t want to keep carrying this anger around, especially because I actually loved seeing Italy and don’t want these people to become the main memory I have of the trip. So I’m wondering: how do you stop replaying an experience like this in your head? How do you let go of the anger without having to forgive the people involved? And what can I actually learn from an experience like this?

TL;DR: I went on a 6-day school trip to Italy with two girls, and the experience became extremely stressful because of constant sleep deprivation, conflicts, misunderstandings. One girl even got into a physical altercation after losing her suitcase. I tried to help her afterward despite our problems, but the tension continued, and by the end I no longer wanted to travel with either of them. Now I still feel angry weeks later, but I have to work with them again on our school project. How do I stop replaying the experience, let go of the anger without forgiving or reconnecting with them, and figure out what I should learn from the whole situation?

DAE wish they could eat seafood

So to explain a little bit I love the idea of sushi and a bunch of seafood and I even like the taste of a lot I’ve tried, problem is my body rejects it!!! Like no matter how much I like it I can’t eat it cause my body will like start trying to throw up and I get extremely nauseous and it just upsets me huge anime fan and always wanted to do like sushi dates and stuff like that but my body doesn’t care I can’t eat any I’ve tried all the different kinds even like crawl fish and crab and oysters shrimp thinking maybe it was just fish but it’s honestly anything that lives in water besides alligator and like tuna in the cans which my mom always gave us a kids so that might be why that’s okay but I also read that it’s almost fake 😅 so idk am I alone in this?
