What is the next step to alleviate traffic in Letterkenny?

I'm tired of everyone moaning about active travel and wanting to build more roads, too many cars coming into town is a problem.

I think one of the biggest changes we can now make is park and rides at the main approach roads into town. Until that is done, and the amount of cars coming into town is reduced, the active travel lanes will remain under utilised and a town bus service just will not work.

I also think that the active travel lanes could have been designed to also accommodate busses and emergency services, maybe they still could?

Active travel has to be part of the solution and until we get some of the 40k visitors a day to start using it, nothing will change, nothing else will work.

What is this?

Hi I was on marble hill beach and at at the left hand side of beach, just is the dunes is a small concrete building and could not decide what it was. At first I thought it was a lookout for the war, but the construction seems like it’s younger and has some metal and wooden beams , stakes protruding from the top. It’s fenced off with barbed wire and in places razor wire, so someone doesn’t want us to get any closer, guys any info on this one?

accommodation around atu letterkenny

my sister (22) is joining a course of many years in ATU letterkenny this september. she was initially expecting to go to another college abroad, however at the last minute this couldnt happen because of reasons to do with the college’s administration. as a result, she had not really looked at accommodation in donegal and is now stuck with no place to live, with her classes starting on the 7th. she has been looking at studentpad, daft, facebook etc however there seems to be very little opportunity. im just wondering if anyone would have any leads, or any students going to ATU letterkenny would have any more insight at all? she has already contacted the college but hasn’t found anything still

p.s she may have a car later on in the year, but she doesn’t have one as of now

Hi everyone! Is anyone here studying at ATU Donegal (Letterkenny) as an international student?

I’d like to know:

- How is Letterkenny/Donegal for international students?

- How is the accommodation situation?

- Any tips or advice for a new student?

Thanks! 🙏

How to stop random people from thinking my driveway is the road?

I think the confusion comes from the fact that my driveway is wider than the actual road. It also has a road sign at the edge but it’s there to mark the road, not the driveway itself. I’m not sure if I’m legally allowed to take it down.

Almost weekly a tourist will drive up the driveway and park outside my house. I usually just come out and give them directions but i’m getting tried of that.

Any good food brands from Donegal?

Lately I have been trying to buy produce that’s more local or at least from Ireland. But I have noticed that, at least, in shops around here you rarely see stuff that are actually made in Donegal - apart from maybe some dairy products.
This made me curious as to what are some brands from Donegal you are aware of and like? I know Filligans is one you seem around often , but can’t think of many other ones

Bundoran - what's the situation?

I'm planning to visit Bundoran and spend a few weeks there maybe, but in the past few weeks heard different things about it, from the town being filthy to being full of "doctors and engineers". Did a bit of research, but all I found was a new IPAS centre opening there, but still not much information about it. I'm wondering what's the current situation?

Any recommendations on taxi service to/from Donegal Airport?

Going on a trip to Donegal/Gweedore and was looking at if I should rent a car/bike once I'm there (if it's availible) or if I should plan on taking taxis. Coming from Canada and flying into donegal from Dublin, and I wasn't sure if Uber was availible there like it is in Dublin when I last visited. Should I ask the customer service desk at the airport? Is there a website of taxis around Bunbeg/Donegal town? Any help would be appreciated. Go raibh maith agat.

Seeing dolphins from a sailing boat – County Donegal

Hi Everyone,
We’ll be in County Donegal from tomorrow for a few days. We’d love to go on a boat trip to see dolphins, but on a sailing boat (not a motorboat).
I found Amazing Grace, which is based in Bunagee, but I’m looking for something closer to Falcarragh (or the surrounding area).
Any recommendations?

Help with Placename/Townland

Hello Donegal friends!

I'm looking through the 1926 census records and I've found a record of "Foherna" in Co. Donegal. Has anyone ever heard of this place/townland/locality? Doesn't seem to come up in a Google search but hopefully someone has a bit of local knowledge.

Trip in September

Hello
We’re doing a trip from Belfast in September, wondering if anyone has any tips / can help us plan! We’ll be in Donegal 10-13 but including some driving..
10 sept drive from Belfast to Inishowen peninsula, possibly via Derry. Stay somewhere on the peninsula
11 sept ?
12 sept ?
13 sept do some exploring and then drive back to Belfast (need to be back by 7)
Unsure really where to head in the middle! On the list is over to horn head/ around and down the coast towards dooey / glenveagh. We’d love to get some good food (seafood?) and catch some trad. Any good food / pub recommendations very much appreciated!

Multiple pregnancy delivery in Letterkenny Hospital - how did it go for you?

It has come to our attention when we’re already 22 weeks pregnant that we have to give birth in the south in order for me to be in the birth certificate of my children (I’m not Irish yet). We were conceived by donor assistance in a clinic in Dublin. My wife is from the north, pay tax and self employed in the north so we have been to Altnagevin which has been amazing all this while and now we are changing to Letterkenny Hospital. How did it go for you?
