Fashion Advice Why does one of these dresses look much better than the other?

I've always had more of a thin rectangular body type and avoided dresses like the second one because I felt like skirts that flared out a little around the hips looked better. But I feel like the second dress looks much better on me than the first one. I ended up buying them both because I love the colour of the first one (it also looked better without a bra), but why does that one look unflattering and what makes the second one better?

What do you guys think? There are so many options any more and I can't figure out what looks best on me. Bonus if you can tell me what kind of shoes/tops go with each type of pants lol

Fashion Advice Would this dress be appropriate for my sister’s 3rd wedding anniversary?

Okay, I’m overthinking this 😂 My sister’s 3rd wedding anniversary is this Wednesday and we’re doing a small family dinner at a place we know near the beach. Nothing fancy or super formal, but I still don’t wanna show up either way too dressed up or looking like I just came from the beach lol. I really like this dress though…

I know it’s less likely for my height, but the automatic vertical types all don’t feel quite right to me. I think there’s too much contrast in my body (angle-wise), and the only other real consideration I think would be DC. I hear online I look a little taller, and IRL that I actually look a little shorter/smaller, so I figure it’s probably something a little more moderate.

I also think that styles that are a little more boyish can flatter me well, though I have very specific taste in that regard and I prefer to keep things either natural and neutral or rather delicate, even if it isn’t my most flattering. I hate shapeless stuff (esp dresses) unless it is very light/thin and has thin straps instead of sleeves

Including the only shorts I’ve worn in like 3 years and some body scan thing that I thought might be useful for silhouette stuff lol

IRTG.

I need a wardrobe overhaul to help with my confidence, so would like to know my Kibbe if you could help! Ive attached 3 photos for Kibbe analysis (because I forgot about my hair in the first two!), and some pics of clothes I find flattering and unflattering.

All taken with no bra on if that makes a difference. Been to the "a bra that fits" page and gotten bras from their recommended stuff and they're amazing! But none are no show or no strap or anything like that. But, I digress.

Please help me if you can!!
