Hello, I'm sure this comes up more than this subreddit would like but I need some help. I'm a 19-year-old attending the University of Kentucky and I've never had any sort of violation before. I was cited going 23 over in a 55 in Woodford County at 8pm. Unfortunately, I was having a really bad day, poor performance in an exam, had to have my wisdom teeth surgical sites revised (they were empty and I just thought something was there) and then it leaked into my driving as I returned to Lexington.

Do y'all have any advice on what I could do? I saw that if you had no violations before you could participate in DriveSafeKentucky and have it completely stricken, but I'm nervous that at 23 mph they won't take it. Should I look into a local lawyer? I really do feel remorseful and I hate that I let my personal life leak into my driving. I'd appreciate any and all the help you all might have.

Also, I'd like help on how to tell my parents. They aren't strangers to speeding tickets, but I am and I want to be fully honest with them while not breaking their hearts.

From my understanding, you are supposed to get over for law enforcement if they are performing a traffic stop. If you can’t get over, you should slow down as necessary. WHY do people get over then proceed to jam on their brakes like they are trying to stop in the middle of the highway? It causes unnecessary traffic. Are they being nosey? Do they think the officer is going to tell the current person being pulled over to stay right there so they can chase them down instead? Am I the inconsiderate one? This drives me insane. I almost always find a way to get over for officers and as i’m getting over, I match the flow of traffic in that lane. When people see cops they immediately forget how to operate a motor vehicle and start panicking.

This is from a Texas perspective if it matters.

The thre most common excuses I see here for speeding:

1. "I am an excellend driver and know how to co ntrol my vehicle"

2. Modern cars have better handling and grip than the older cars around when they set speed limits.

3. Roads are designed for much higher speeds than they are limited to.

Given those three excuses, how come nearly every day when driving to work at the speed limit and the road enters a sweeping curve (where I easily stay in my lane), do the speeders ripping past me enter my lane? Theey are inches from my mirror, and often I see them either nail the brakes or jerk back over into thier lane. (Seen a couple actually overdo it and end up in the ditch between the lanes of traffic.

So im 20 date is 8/31/2026 just past my drivers licenses I was wounding you know how there the minor drivering that has restrictions and curfew and everything eles because there under 18 what does that mean for me as a 20 year old i live in usa colorado near denver city do i have any restrictions or curfew?

This has bugged me for years, but in this situation, who would have right of way. Purple arrow is leaving a parking lot but has solid white lines to exit and for 8-10 ft on the street, red line is in middle lane and cuts over across the solid line since it was a red light and they were traveling fairly fast for the intersection. Because of the solid line, would the exiting vehicle have right of way?

Edit: I was the purple car and exited the parking lot before the red car was near me. They were going fairly fast probably thinking they had right of way, crossed the solid white line after I had already pulled out and was almost straight in the lane. I had to swerve quickly into the curb to not get hit. The solid straight line had not even switched to dashed yet.

Edit 2: Purple car (me) wanted to turn right so I was not changing lanes or merging with the flow of traffic.

This is the road when I leave my driving exam building. It’s a very small left lane and you can only fit about three cars. As a new driver what am I supposed to do if the examiner asks me to turn left and cars are blocking entrance? I know people don’t listen and just go behind the last car in the left lane but you aren’t supposed to go through double yellow and definitely don’t think it’s good idea to stay in right lane with left signal, holding up traffic. What do I do?

As stated in the title, car behind me and I were waiting for a parking spot until this red civic came in and took it. I waited a while before getting out to see who was coming out of the car. A woman, probably mid-30’s, came out and I politely asked “Hi ma’am. We’ve been waiting for a spot for like 20 mins. Could you…” then she cut me off that’s too bad and proceeded to mock me. I went back to my car, eventually another person left and I was able to park. I was going to stay in my car to eat lunch, but then I saw her outside. She saw me as well and mocked me, doing cry baby face. Pissed me off so I just packed my stuff and went into the office. I work at home health and she looks like a patient there doing rehab from smoking. She proceeded to berate and mock me as went to the office.

I just migrated recently and got my license afterwards. But are people this rude even for something as simple as a parking spot? I know what she did wasn’t against the law but I kind of assumed there was like a parking etiquette or something. Idk. She took a picture of my license plate before she left. Should I be worried?

I'm making a right turn out of an alley onto the street, oncoming car signals right as they approach so I proceed. They then suddenly cancel the signal and honk at me. Who's in the wrong?

I've had a couple days to think all this over and discuss my feelings with my therapist.

Overall, it seems that rules significantly vary between different states and locations, as well as many "laws" being a bit subject to interpretation.

Fortunately, I was able to find a great document from my jurisdiction that explicitly states that because we both had to wait for cross traffic to clear, it was irrelevant who pulled up first. In this situation, he ABSOLUTELY needed to yield to me going straight before he turned left.

I feel so vindicated! And I have officially ruled myself NOT THE ASSHOLE! However, it's probably best we all slow down and communicate better with other drivers so that awful road rage events like this, or worse, accidents, don't occur at all.

Had a delightful (/s) mild road rage incident today and need help determining if I was indeed the asshole here.

Two way stop on a busy road. He pulls up to the stop sign across from me first, signalling left. I pull up to the opposing stop sign second, going straight. Once cross traffic is clear, I start to go (as I'm going straight, despite pulling up second). He guns it, fingers me, fishtails like a moron, rolls down the window, fingers me again from behind, and then speeds off.

Who had the right of way in this situation?

A: Me, because I was going straight despite arriving second.

B: Him, because he got there first, regardless of direction

C: He's an asshole even if I was in the wrong because there was no need for him to react so childishly.

i just dont know what to do, i did more horrible this time then last time, i made 20 - 25 minor errors + 1 major error which made me automatically fail but i still wouldve failed if i didnt make the major error cause the points wouldve accumulated and i wouldve failed, there was too many little things with the signalling and checking mirrors and idk what to do. ive practiced with a driving instructor and practiced many hours leading up to my test and still failed.. performing worse then the last time i took my test. i have a really bad learning disability (adhd) and diagnosed anxiety which may contribute to it. i am only 17 but im feeling discouraged and passing my driving test feels non existent, i tried to get advice before but people just called me a shitty driver and to not be on the road, which granted that’s true. any advice how to get better?

Two intersection on the way home everyday, and other drivers make me feel like I’m driving wrong. Maybe I am, maybe they are, or maybe it’s each driver’s preference. Thought I’d ask for other peoples insight.

Both are at traffic lights. There’s no right-turn lanes, but the road gets so wide, there’s essentially room for it. The first photo has a bike lane that comes to an end at the intersection leaving room for cars to sneak in, and the second had street parking that comes to an end leaving room for cars to sneak in. Does anyone know, if there isn’t a designated lane for right turns, if only one car should be at the end of the intersection, or if two cars can split the one, if one’s going straight and one’s taking the right?

If I’m there alone, or at front, I follow the green path with no drama. What makes it difficult is when drivers are behind me. I’d be stopped prepared to take a right turn at red, following the green path, with signal on, but when waiting for cars to pass the intersection, a car behind me will take the yellow path causing a mess with us both trying to take a right into one lane. Honestly, same thing happens at a green light when slowing down to take the right, another car taking the right with the yellow path will be moving faster, and now there’s two cars taking a right into the same lane. Most confusing or when I give into the peer pressure is when there’s a line of cars taking a right using the yellow path, and another line of cars planning to go straight from the same lane, and essentially two lanes of cars emerge from the one designated lane. Specially with the one with the bike lane, it essentially becomes ignored.

Idk, I try to respect lane markings, but so much of driving is about unwritten rules. Anyone know if there’s a correct way so I can stop overthinking about if I’m driving wrong?

Also, if I’m not in the front at a red light, and there are cars in front of me going straight, I’ll continue to treat the lane as one lane and wait for the green instead of taking the yellow path around them. I always remind myself I’ll make it home eventually, and try not bending the rules, but if it isn’t really a rule, maybe I’m just wasting my time.

Also don’t know if generally for right turns if I’m supposed to be hugging the curb when I turn, but I typically don’t “hug”, but will still turn into the inside lane though. Don’t know if there’s a right a wrong answer for that either?

I'm kinda into the "transition face". This is the face purposeful idiots make when going from idiot to extremely scared because they have to pay for their actions. It's a brief moment that gets caught on camera but something about it just excites me. It's like finally something put this idiotic driver in their place and off the road.

I'll be honest, I have zero sympathy for people specifically being a dumb driver, yes that includes you having to take shit. If you think your life isn't worth much while behind the wheel, please take yourself to the basement or forest and end it there and leave us out of your equations.

I did talk to the handicap driver on the left and let her know I was there and she was perfectly fine with me being there. I tried to park with a slight articulation to make the back stick out not as much, but that probably didn't make a huge difference. I'm not sure if I could have realistically articulated more tightly without it being more risky given my limited experience so far with towing a trailer?

I was driving in pretty mountainous terrain recently on the interstate and I kind of had the realization that I'm flying down this road at 75 mph and one tiny mistake or lapse of judgement from me would LITERALLY mean I'm flying off the side of a mountain at high speeds

For late drivers or G2 drivers in general. Can you give me your guys stories when you first started off driving.(And I don't mean the back road riders at 14, beer cans in the ditch, mudding... unless you feel like sharing)

I know in order to have experience you have to keep driving. I always have those doubts when I make mistakes and wonder if I should hand in my license... but it's learning from those mistakes that makes you a better driver. Being aware of your surroundings makes you a better driver, but the human errors will always be a thing. Some time shit happens and its out of your controls, but you have to take control to avoid being or causing an accident.

I typically see people zipper merge pretty safely here, but sometimes the cars in the left lane get angry and honk or try to block merging traffic.

My parents don't know driving. I don't have relatives or friends who can teach me. I don't want to spend so much money on driving instructor at this moment. That means I have to be on my own.

I do know driving but still make so many mistakes. I struggle to drive in tight space and in situations where so many vehicles are occupying space. I sometimes bump my car.

I did learnt from instructor in past but no help. Why should I spend money again and again? Others are better off as they have social connections who can help them out.

I have poor judgement skills and don't know what to do in certain situations.

I live in Thailand and we have a lot of small intersection with no traffic light. And I always see a lot of cars use emergency signal to signal that they are going straight.

It's very common that a lot of older people call it ไฟผ่าหมาก (lit: nuts kicking light), the signal that say you are going straight.

Is there any other country that use emergency signal for going straight through the intersection? It's so annoying and very dangerous. I've seen so many government campaign correcting that it's not for going straight, but it seems to do no change to this behavior.

While changing lanes, I accelerated and was subsequently given a ticket requiring me to appear in court. I still do not know when the speed limit changed to 35 mph, and I realize that my speed was over 60 mph.

I am a very careful driver and have never received a traffic ticket before. I am still in shock that I missed the speed limit sign. This was an honest mistake, and I sincerely regret it.

I am very nervous about going to court and hope the court will take my driving history and the circumstances of this situation into consideration. What should I expect in the court? Any advice to not impact insurance?

I've just started driving my first manual car after passing my test (2014 Fiat Panda) and absolutely hate it. I can't wait to never drive manual ever again.

I "learned" with my parents in a manual mini Cooper and in my instructors manual Hyundai i10.

No disrespect/ungratefulness towards my parents though - I'm obviously thankful that they managed to get me a car at all but it is driving me up the wall (no pun intended) after just 2 drives.
