DS controller adaptive trigger makes loud clicking/rattling noise, worth fixing?

I recently bought a controller for my GF so we can play co op games, and the first thing I noticed was how quiet the adaptive trigger is. It also makes a thunky sound, while my old one has a high pitched clicking noise.
My question is, how easy is it to fix? If it is just a matter of replacing some gears, I am comfortable doing that. If it is a motor issue that involves soldering, then I am just going to leave it as is.

Does it happen to only one or both triggers on your controller? For some, blowing air into the trigger can fix it, though only temporarily.
