Durango Railroad (Durango—Cascade Canyons)

Hello! I’m planning a 4-5 day birthday trip to Durango, and I’d like to include the railroad train from Durango to the Cascade Canyons as part of my itinerary.

I want book to the trip in January, but my only thing is that the round-trip for the train is 5 hours (2.5 each way) and they only give an 1 hour of layover to be in Cascade before the train departs again.

For anyone who has the explored Cascade’s for the hour, did it make the time of the round-trip (and the money) worth it? How’d you make the most of it?

(If not, I may just visit the museum lol)
