Recommendation hiring peer support short-term

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for someone (preferably a woman) who can provide peer support for me for the next few months.
I will provide more information privately,
as an AuDHD woman, I need to outsource some of my executive function, and need someone who can be a kind of coworker/accountability/support person on a routine basis throughout this time.
I'm looking for someone who is empathetic, reliable, a good listener, and understands neurodivergence.

This is NOT a therapy, medical, or traditional caregiving position.
This can be predominantly virtual, with occasional in-person days if we happen to be near each other. Psychology, counselling, and other formal qualifications are not essential if you understand this kind of support well.
This would be a paid temporary role. hours, availability and payment can be discussed depending on the person and what kind of arrangement makes sense, but please keep in mind that I am working with a student budget.
A lot of the time, you would be free to do your own work alongside me - I'm looking more for consistent availability and presence than constant interaction.

If interested, please DM me with a little info about yourself, any experience with similar work, your availability, and location if in Durban.

Anyone Remember When Oscars Cafè doubled as a video rental store?

Post image
120 Upvotes

I've been living in Cape Town since 2011, but I spent the first twelve years of my life in Durban. I have a lot of vivid childhood memories of specific places, one of which being Oscars Cafe, back when it was still located in Durban North next to Northwood Boys' High (where Cafe Mayfair is located now).

It was a restaurant like it is today in Hillcrest, but it also doubled as a video rental store. Half of the space was relegated to dining like a conventional restaurant, but the other half had shelves stacked with DVDs sorted by genre and even a shelf dedicated to PS2 games.

Strangely enough I couldn't find any information about the place's history online and was only able to find this image from seventeen years ago. You'd think an idea as creative as a full-on restaurant/movie rental store hybrid would be documented and remembered to a greater degree but I can't find any more information for the life of me.

Does anyone else remember this place? And does anyone know any more about its history?

Oysters

Hey everyone! Does anyone know a good spot to get good fresh , quality oysters? Most restaurants charge R30-R40 each, and I usually want around 20-30 whenever the craving hits, so that adds up fast. I’ve had them recently and honestly can’t stop thinking about them, If you know a good spot(market, fishmonger, wholesaler, whatever) , please share!

Durban Relocation Options

Hello,

So me and my husband are moving to Durban following a job opportunity and we are looking for rentals short term and buying a house long term, it's in a area called Jacobs which is somewhere we have never been, is there any advice on decent areas in or around that area ?

We are much more nightlife and malls and markets people rather than nature lovers.

We have a budget of 10k for renting and as soon as hour house in Pretoria is sold we are looking to buy a house in the 2-2.5 mil range.

Our biggest thing is having a modern home, a nice view but we also need to take into consideration not struggling with too many water outages and security.

42M, yoh Durban is a harsh place to make a life outside of work and family......what is it, people seem to just wanna keep to themselves. You try to talk to someone and they reaching for the pepper spray[hopefully it is pepper spray] 🤣. Its crazy especially if you not into the whole clubbing and bar scene. Been in JHB & CPT ..... depending on where you go you meet and talk to people, yeah they actually talk back🤦. Weirdest thing

Anyway looking for friends around Durbs, DM if you keen

Anyone with an Xbox or PS5

This is a long shot but fuck it might as well try. I'm hyped for GTA 6 and I don't want the game spoiled. Problem is I play on PC. If there is anyone in Durban who has a Xbox or PS5 I could play the game on, can we work something out. I really don't want to buy my own console. I'll pay for the game and you can keep it when I'm done playing it. Hell I'll throw in a couple hundred bucks and some beers for the privilege if anyone is down.

Does anyone know what's going on at Durban Container Park on Edwin Swales?

I've lived in Durban for close to 12 years now and I've always seen containers at DCP. This morning I noticed there is not a single container in sight. Does anyone know anything?

Event/Meetup Looking To Make Friends In Around Kloof-Hillcrest

Sup, feels rather embarrassing asking this again. I'm an introvert that struggles to make friends and just keen to make some new friends. Recently got out of a long term relationship and trying to make friends for a change. Any gender is welcome, i don't really care, Preferably fellow gamers, metal heads or active people. I'm primarily a homebody so its also to help me get out of my comfort zone too.

I use to have a major gaming addiction & recently went cold turkey on it & basically looking to be a little bit more outgoing if it makes sense & not just in front of my gaming pc most of the time.

Edit: I'm 37 male

As an Indian girl who moved to Cape Town, what are other Indian’s experiences moving out of Durban?

I’m an Indian girl who moved out of home from Durban around 5 years ago. I want to know what other people miss/don’t miss about Durban, have you noticed any differences between Durban indians and other people? How do people differ?

Food Green Redbull

Hi Everyone

I'm 26 F and a first time mum due literally anytime now.

The one and only craving I have had during the last 9 months is a green red bull (Curuba and Elderflower) however it seems to be discontinued and sold out everywhere. I have even emailed red bull SA with no response and I am really desperate. Its been a very rough pregnancy and I suffered from HG and had to get my gallbladder removed at 15 weeks and this thing was all I wanted (obviously not gonna drink it whilst I was pregnant) . My husband has offered to buy me all the stock we can find as a push present if we do find it. If anyone has stock anywhere in the country or can get me some I would really appreciate it. We are based in Durban and willing to pay courier costs as well.

We have looked into importing it however as its a liquid and a food item theres too much red tape .

Thanks in advance & sorry for the format as I'm on mobile

Looking for an estate planning attorney/ someone who has a lot of experience

Hi everyone, looking for recommendations for a really good estate planning attorney in Durban/Umhlanga who specialises in wills, estates, trusts and succession.

My mom is married in community of property and doesn’t currently have a will. We have some specific wishes regarding the family home and protecting her children’s inheritance, so we need someone very knowledgeable, thorough and experienced who can properly advise us.

Would really appreciate recommendations from anyone who has had a good experience with an estate attorney! 🙏

Recommendation Good Medical Aid/Insurance for Pets

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for recommendations for pet medical aid/insurance in South Africa, preferably for cats.

I’m especially interested in companies with a good reputation for paying claims without making the process difficult. If something serious happens and my cat needs expensive treatment, I’d like to know I can rely on the cover.

I’ve looked at a few options, but I’d much rather hear from people with first-hand experience. 😊

Thank you!
