Health & Wellbeing Traffic
I live in the Northwest area of Edmond. I get off of work at three and drive up Broadway extension to get home. One day last week, it took me until just after five, yesterday it was about 4:10. I’ve been making this commute with the same schedule going on 17 years. Until about three weeks ago, I normally was home at about 3:30. Yesterday I had to turn around twice due to road construction, and even on roads that weren’t under going maintenance (both of them), traffic seems to move at about half of the speed limit. Can someone tell me what changed all of a sudden?

They're doing construction at seemingly every intersection where there's a train crossing. Also, there's just random roads that are being worked on that makes it worse. My 35 minute ride home has been about 55-65 minutes the past few days.

Yesterday I headed down Santa Fe to 122nd St access to Broadway Extension (aka Hwy 235 or Hwy 71). Road blocked. Backtracked to 33rd and then headed down Kelley. Road blocked. Backtracked to 33rd and headed toward tracks. Road blocked. Backtracked to Kelley, headed north to 15th and turned right toward Broadway. Road blocked at train tracks. Backtracked to Kelley (couldn’t cut through on Fretz because it too was blocked) and headed to Edmond Road, the ONLY intersection along Broadway that goes UNDER the train tracks. After inching through several light changes at the pileup at Broadway and Edmond Road, I was finally on Broadway. If I hadn’t lived here for dozens of years, I wouldn’t have known the secret passageway out of Edmond.
Big, big FU. I can only conclude the city fathers and mothers don’t know how to coordinate calendars. Or maybe they all live east of Boulevard or Bryant - west side Edmond be damned. I will not be voting for any of the current commissioners, city managers, mayor and mayoral staff, and the other yahoos and pecksniffs making asinine decisions.

To be before, BNSF owns the right of way and my understanding of the law is they can basically do whatever they want, whenever they want. They are doing rehab on the whole line and want to work the crossings when they are working the rest of the line. Other than notifying people and maybe creating better signage, I don't think the city could do much about it.
I will be voting against all of them over the Flock surveillance state cameras, though.

Agree - whoever planned this can F right off. I hope these projects are done soon bc it’s infuriating

Any GPS app is your friend here. Use it on the way home and it will learn your route and give you the best options. I personally prefer WAZE.

It has to do with school being back in session and the the tracks on 33rd being closed

The repairs on the tracks at kelly were desperately needed (but not at the same time as 33rd/150th).

The impact of Kelly and 33rd BOTH being closed off at the railroad crossing (FUCK BNSF) cannot be overstated. Kelly is a major N/S feeder road for folks going from OKC to N. Edmond. So much traffic flows through there that now every alternate route is getting overloaded, and IMO it's unacceptable that Edmond and OKC didn't designate some traffic cops to help with flow in the alternate routes like 15th and Broadway and along Memorial which can't handle the increased capacity. Hell, just making some adjustments to the weights in our so called "intelligent traffic system" would have been an improvement.
