Pop machine

Got this old pop machine awhile back and we’re finally going to put it in my dad’s shop after getting it finished to keep beverages cold. I don’t believe the coin mechanism works. Is there anyway to bypass the coin mechanism so the machine will dispense a beverage when the button is pushed?

After all these machines have price settings.

I thought you meant mechanically. Like mechanical parts broken, springs etc.

If this is true, and it’s not just mechanically broken, you could have a fire/shock risk on your hands. The coin collector doesn’t have to work mechanically for you to set the price to $0.

I would try to trace the wires from the coin mechanism and put a momentary push button in its place. You would keep the circuit open and allow for a pulse to get through every time you pushed the button. But just like [u/kevizzy37](u/kevizzy37) said, if you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t attempt it. Should be easy to find somebody with someone with some experience that could help.
Unfortunately, there is not much more information to go off on this schematic, so more info would be needed.

Jump R25 to whatever the appropriate constant voltage is. That should put power to the common side of the push buttons.

My dad setup an old drink machine in his shop for the employees. Coin mechanism was missing but everything else functioned. He just drilled and installed a push button in the front so that you just held that button down and then pressed your selection. Was basically the honor system for paying for the drinks and the guys would drop the change down the bottle top catch piece. There should be a relay that powers up when the correct change is inserted. Just need to find that line and do a similar bypass.

Bypass on the jones plug. Plenty of videos online.

A coulpe of tips:

-If the power cord is cracking or frayed, replace it now and save yourself the fire.

-Good luck finding R12. If you do, it's gonna be expensive.

Unplug the machine from the wall. You will need some wire and a momentary push button switch that is rated at least 120V and 3A.

1. Find the Jones plug. There will be a thick wire harness coming out of the coin mechanism on the front door. Follow it to a rectangular socket on the machine's wall, and unplug it.

2. Look at the plug, it should have the pin numbers embossed on it. Bridge pin 1 and 7 with a piece of wire.

3. Next, wire one side of the switch to Pin 1 (or splice it to Pin 1/7 jumper), and the other side to Pin 3.

4. Route the wires down to the lower part of the machine door and exit through the bottom or via the bottle opener/coin return cavity. This allows you to press the button hidden from external view without drilling into the machine facade.

5. Test it out! Plug the machine back into the wall outlet. Press your newly installed momentary button. You should hear the machine's internal credit relay click. Press a drink selection button to dispense your beverage.

As others have said these usually have selector switch or dip switch on the coin reader, if the coin reader doesn’t work then yes there is a way to bypass, however it is not completely clear, it has something to do with S66 but this diagram is kinda hard to read on a mobile phone without knowing the specifics of the components. Just fyi this is line voltage meaning if you don’t know how to probe correctly and you jumper the wrong connection you could have a much more serious problem on your hands. My recommendation is try to find the price selector, if the coin selector mechanism is broken, try to find one on eBay, then if that doesn’t work find a EE in your area that would be willing to look at it.

Your diagram is missing information about the coin mechanism, which looks like it is connecting to the “changer socket” in the center of this diagram.

If you can read any label on the coin mechanism, you may be able to look up a schematic for that and have the needed info.

For some old arcade machines, I’ve seen a pushbutton added that can “add a coin” with a button press, then works as expected otherwise. Maybe try looking up how those mods are done.

Also try asking researching vending machine specific Reddit or other communities. This is a specialized thing.

Do you have any other drawings or schematics that came with this? This just seems to be the electro mechanical stuff. There should be some sort of logic board on the other end of one of those plugs. That is where the changes would need to be made.
