Discussion An optimistic view
Here’s the situations in which we’ve just dodged an expensive, injury prone bullet who couldn’t even pass a medical and turned down the Toffees:
- Barry stays fit and continues his incredible start to the season.
- Graham fulfills his potential and becomes our next 60-100 million pound player.
- Brennan Johnson is a fast, clinical striker like Balogun and Dibling gets game time.
Three chances for us to have dodged a bullet here :)
But nonetheless, sack Kinnear today.

I like your positivity. I just hope Moyes will break his reluctance to play inexperienced players like Dibling and bring back O’Brien into the side. Moyes is good at working in difficult situations like the season after we had to sell Rooney. I hope it turns into one of those seasons. The recruitment teams only have 2 opportunities each year to showcase their worth. This summer was crud. Jan window is going to be even harder. But this is the situation they’ve put themselves in

No. I'm about to turn 33 and never been able to celebrate my team winning anything (Wasn't even 2 for the Cup in 95) The 2nd most successful Club in the Country pre 90's btw, we aren't Fulham. I refuse to be 50 years of age as we embarrass ourselves every year still looking at the optimistic side of things.

Of course not, Everton is everything to me. I'm saying I'm not optimistic about Everton and won't be until the Club actually does things to be optimistic about. Nothing to do with not supporting them anymore

I'll be there supporting them until I Die of course, Everton is my Club that my Grandad passed down to me, it means everything to me. But my point is I'm not going into things being optimistic until the Club actually do things to make me feel that way, my point isn't that I'll ever stop supporting them

Yep all good mate - I understand the frustration. This post is really just me trying to smile and cope through what is undeniably an enormous amount of pain. We may end up OK despite this I guess is the only point I'm making.

Dunno where ‘injury prone’ is coming from with Balogun. He missed two games all of last season then played a World Cup without an issue.
I’d guess the failed medical was maybe down to the dislocated shoulder in 2024. He was out more or less a year.

Sounded like sour grapes to me - not optimism. We’re left with a single striker. In no universe is Brennan Johnson a like for like substitute for Balogun. I can’t be optimistic - this one hurts. I think our club really f-ed up this transfer window - there’s nothing to be excited about imo.

Part sour grapes sure, but also part a bloke who failed a medical. If we signed him and then he got injured, we'd want people's heads too. Ultimately, its clear our recruitment team have no idea what they're doing but at the same time, we could be OK this season.

We’re objectively worse. I hated losing Ndiaye, but I was resigned to it - the only saving grace was getting Balogun, who I was very excited about, and I think was a big upgrade over Beto. But now? Super thin squad in several positions. We’re not going to scare anybody - we’re going to be pretty easy to play against I’m afraid - AND, we’re a couple injuries away from a complete mess.

I think it all depends on how legit the medical issue with Balogun was. If it was a real problem, maybe it is for the best - because he would not play anyway.
But if that was just an attempt to lower the price/wages, then it is a completely different story.
I feel like it is possible that the failed medical was serious. And everything that happened later (including still completing the deal) was done in the PANIC MODE.

I admire your optimism, dodging the bullet isn't worth shit if we get a serious injury and have to overpay in January for some bang average replacement.

Agreed.
I think some people are overreacting at how bad the current situation is. Yes, it's a disgrace that the club have left the squad short of a few players, but ultimately this is just a short-term issue. We will still be fine though it means we probably won't make Europe this year.
At least we are still healthy financially and the squash that we do have is decent and has room to grow (though just short on a couple players).
People seem to forget just how bad the days were under Moshiri and Kenwright

What optimism? Our owners clearly don’t give a fuck about the club, our board are fucking incompetent, our squad is paper thin and us fans have been taken for fucking idiots
£6.50 a donut at the ground, season ticket price hikes… they fucking fleece us for every fucking penny they can and deliver less than fucking nothing.
Every single other club in the league has gotten stronger in this market, and we have regressed. That is a fact.

We don't carry a threat and we're a bit of a laughing stock (or we would be if we were relevant enough for anyone to care).
This feels like one of the most pathetic days of my decades supporting this side. And that's quite some competition.
The Balogun deal will be legendary. We actually had him in the building and fucked him around for hours before he told us where to go once the deadline passed.
I'll put some respect on that man's name for having some principles.
I guess the Richarlison story will be over for another day.

I think between Grealish, George, KDH, Johnson and Barry we'll score plenty of goals! And we're the *slightest* bit more solid in defence than we were before the window. Our CMs are stacked. I think we might be OK this season, despite their best attempts to fuck it up.

It’s been a shocking window and we are in trouble now. To be honest we don’t tend to much in Jan and nothing this lot have done offers me any hope we will even change anything in Jan.

it’s a tough one because in parts it’s been fantastic, i think the hackney , george and johnson deal are all great - we signed some good young potentials, got grealish for another season but otherwise the last week has been a shamozzle - it will be interesting to see how the team performs but i’m hopeful and more optimistic- i prefer this window over the one where klassen and the whole troop of failures joined, that was horrible from big spending excitement to players who could not play, Im at least confident the ones we did get in are not trash

I was ready to be optimistic. I was actually pretty pleased with the window overall considering we lost Ndiaye and only managed a stop-gap right back. But this Balogun deal collapsing in the most humiliating way possible is too much. Unless some seriously exculpatory information comes out the CEO has to go.

Barry scored a hat trick against championship Preston then played poorly against Bournemouth, back to his usual self. Let's not get carried away. I am rooting for him but he's really never passed the eye test.

As long as he keeps actually getting into the position to score goals I’m not going to worry too much, their keeper made some great saves and on another day Barry bags 2 and everyone is optimistic

I understand trying to be optimistic but it's pretty deflating as we were so close. The club needs to act early and be ruthless next time. I don't know if it's Moyes or the transfer committee.
Our only hope is to get a few free agents in to provide adequate cover in the squad (at least 2-3).

Dodged a bullet just to walk onto a landmine later. The medical results were dubious since the club was probably using it as a smokescreen to reneg on the deal or just to pinch pennies. Now we’ll likely have to overpay for a striker in the January window as a cover for Barry. Getting jerked around by a bunch of bobble heads is what threw him off this deal.

That’s some high quality cope.
Even if we have dodged a bullet because of the medical, how did we end up selling two attacking players (with our forward line already light), only to leave this one option on deadline day to avoid disaster?
And why did we go after zirkzee and others at the last minute, only to return to balogun? Either he’s medically an option or he’s not.
Whole window just smacks of keeping costs down to me. Fact is we made a ~30m profit on the transfer window and have a very light squad.
