Recruitment FBI Tactical Recruiting Program
Can anyone share any inside details on this? I had my interview and got “accepted” into it. I understand this doesn’t really make you any different of an applicant or “special”. I also understand it doesn’t change your career, just can apply earlier. But outside of the applying to HRT earlier is there any real perks to it? Does it help with getting hired? I figured there was no downside to accepting the invitation to saying yes to this track. Any other details anyone can share outside of what’s In the detailed email and interview you get?

Like WTFoxtrot said, the only advantage is the ability to apply for selection earlier.
My info is a little dated as I retired a couple of years ago but most folks that came in through TRP never made it to HRT, and the percentage of those that did were statistically no different than the rest of the Agent population. Basically, the program hasn't worked as intended.

What’s the point of it then really? Just trying to spin interest in HRT and make applicants feel a little special/ motivated to take the job?

Pretty much. Kind of a marketing tool to get former military Spec Ops or police SWAT type guys interested in becoming FBI Agents by dangling the HRT carrot.
What happened is that most guys that came in under TRP never end up trying out for HRT for a variety of reasons typical of anyone: family, like their field office, don't want to move to Quantico area, don't want to always travel, etc. They like being a normal FBI Special Agent and maybe being on their division's SWAT team.
HRT is ultra selective so the odds of anyone making it through selection are not good, no matter their background. I would say the odds of someone who was a former SEAL, Delta, or SF is likely higher than someone coming from some local police SWAT team.

Like you said, the only perk is being able to apply for selection earlier. Zero other benefits.

One little known fact is that if you fast track through and end up at CIRG, you can pick up your GS-13 a year early.
It also “locks in” your spot at selection when you apply to go. Technically they could tell people not to come if selection filled up, but you’re prescreened for attendance through the TRP.

Yeah, this is not remotely true at all. There is no “fast tracking” to end up at CIRG. Nor can you pick up GS-13 early.
All TRP does is allow the agent the ability to apply for HRT Selection a year early. You still have to be picked to attend Selection. It’s not an automatic guarantee you will attend on your very first application. Nor does being a TRP applicant “lock in a spot at selection” over another agent applying.

Ok, I guess I accidentally picked up my 13 after a year as a 12. I thought that was policy instead.
You can also do that in Puerto Rico if you don’t want to go to selection.
Edit: Just to clarify. I’m not saying you can fast track to end up at CIRG, but if you hit selection as soon as you’re eligible and come over as an 11 or 12 which is possible with timing if you get selected first go, you only have a one year wait to 13 instead of two.

You go to GS13 one year after 12. That’s the progression for everyone. You weren’t special.

Not in the Bureau. It’s normally a 5 year ladder to 13. Two years as a 10, one as an 11, and two as a 12.
