Cosplay My Clive cosplay from Gamescom

Looking through other posts on this subreddit, I found myself wanting to share my Clive Rosfield cosplay from Gamescom in Cologne this year.

I’m definitely not a professional cosplayer (as you can probably tell), but I had way too much fun walking around in this and getting some reactions from FF16 fans.

Sadly, Hamaguchi wasn’t at the event on the only day I was there <_<

Thought I’d share it here anyway

Btw, that Old Snake cosplayer was amazing! His IG is “har_fie” if you guys are interested in his work.

I just finished this absolute MASTERPIECE of a game

I've seen so much hate for this and so confused as to why😭

Besides that, I'd also like some recommendations for other Final Fantasy games

So far I've played:

FFVII (og)

FFVII Crisis Core (og)

FFXVI

I've been thinking about FFVI and FFXII but I'm not sure🤔

Discussion The game that found me at the right time - A short story Spoiler

So, I bought this on Steam last year. I played the first thirty minutes or so, and it did not click with me at all. I even refunded it.

Fast-forward to July this year. I bought myself a PS5. I finished Tales of Arise and Judgment (the Yakuza spin-off), and FFXVI kept coming up whenever I talked about the kind of games I enjoy. I saw there was a demo, and decided to give it an honest shot.

Holy crap, what a blast. I finished it and immediately went: “WTF happened to Joshua?” and “Anabella is a SOB. I need to see what happens.”

I also had some store cashback lying around, so the physical copy ended up costing basically pocket change.

The combat is so enjoyable, and the world is beautiful. The game's more mature themes really clicked with me, and Clive actually has believable conflicts. His struggles don't feel like they're there just because the plot needs him to suffer. I can actually understand why he feels and acts the way he does.

I'm also really enjoying how straightforward the game is. I'm not someone who needs an enormous open world with hundreds of things to do. I like having a strong narrative direction, while still being able to stop and do some side quests when I feel like it. And FFXVI's side quests have been surprisingly enjoyable. They're short, easy to follow, and many of them actually add something to the world or its characters.

And then there's Cid.

Man, I miss Cid.

He was probably my favorite character, and I think part of what made him so great was how skeptical and pragmatic he was. He often felt like the one person in the room going, “Okay, but let's be realistic here.” Losing him actually hurt, and the time skip really drove home how important he was.

I'm currently at the “Fire and Ice” mission, and I'm having a hard time putting into words why I'm enjoying this game so much. It's not perfect, and I can already see things I'd criticize, but I'm having an absolute blast playing it.

I want to see more of this world and see where Clive and Jill's relationship goes. Anyway, awesome game.

Which is especially funny considering that I refunded this exact game last year.

Maybe FFXVI didn't change.

Maybe I just wasn't ready for it yet.

Question How to enjoy the game? (or What should I have in mind while playing?)

I've played the game for over 15 hours and I've been enjoying the story and most part of combat, but sometimes I feel like I've been missing something. The boss fights are not hard, but they take forever and I'm wondering if most of you guys feel the same. Also, I feel the urge to do the side quests, but they are almost always uninteresting to me and I just want the rewards. Is there anyway I could look into this game to appreciate it more?

Discussion Is the game economy broken or am I missing something?

Hey everyone, please note that I haven’t beaten the game yet so let’s keep it spoiler free. I’m about 90% done with the main story and am currently doing Rising Tide storyline.

Something I’ve wondered the entire game is if something different was planned for the game economy. I can’t recall ever playing an FF game where you couldn’t max out a bunch of items like potions, etc., but that aside, a game where you sat on so much cash.

I almost never have anything to spend it on and am currently pocketing almost 600K Gil. Swords and various things don’t cost a lot but a new song selection is suddenly 20K Gil. Something seems very off to me about the game economy unless I’m somehow playing the game very differently (which I don’t believe is the case).

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Spoilers Deus Ex? Spoiler

I’m replaying to complete the DLCs and I was in the hideaway and activated The Arete Stone and it looked funny and now I have a “gift” from Ultima…

Not sure what the point of this is. I guess I’m just surprised because I’ve apparently missed any conversations about it.

I’m excited to use it in combat though! It’s a fun one 😁

Discussion I've finally completed the game.

As a lifelong jrpg fan, for me it was a mixed experience. I've forced my way through some parts of the game but wanted to finish it because it was a FF game but it didn't feel 100% like it.

Did all hunts, got the final weapon, did all sidequests.

Cons:

  1. Very simple weapon and armor craft. 2/10

  2. NPCs weren't very interesting. 2/10

  3. Sometimes the dialogues went on and on to the point that I skipped all sidequests dialogues towards 3/4 of the game. 5/10

  4. Combat was simple and you could beat anything by spamming abilities and potions but they were also fast paced, flashy and well done even though it was pure action. 6/10

  5. I expected a bit of a better and more engaging story (mimus some parts), though it was well written. 7.5/10

  6. RPG elements were almost totally lacking. 2/10

  7. I expected more during the Odin battle. 7/10

  8. Some sidequest were boring and basic. Go there, do this, go there, talk to that, then talk to someone else, beat a monster.

  9. Magic was really lacking. You just pressed triangle and he shot some fireballs from his hands. No big spells.

  10. Elemental damage and weakness was lacking.

Pros:

  1. Some characters were well written and dubbed. For me Gav was the best character and then Cid. 10/10

  2. Battles were flashy and beautiful. 8.5/10

  3. Abilities progression was very good and the fact that when maxed out, you could put them and use whatever you wanted. 10/10

  4. The strongest PRO for me was when you transformed into the Eikon and battled with them. 10/10

  5. Bahamut and Titan battles were amazing. Before them, I was thinking to drop the game but their dominants and the dominants story were well written and battling against them felt amazing and kept me going (that's why I was a bit dissapointed in the battle against Odin. It wasn't at the level of the previous two... albeit splitting the sea in half was really badass!) 10/10.

  6. Ultima... I liked Ultima since he appeared the first time. Menacing, calm, well written, voice acting was amazing, dark, very good design. It had really the aura of a final boss. Easily top 5 for me.

  7. Clive was a fitting protagonist for a FF game. 10/10

TL;DR: FFXVI is an incredibly beautiful and cinematic action game with amazing Eikon battles, music, abilities, and a few fantastic characters. But as a lifelong jrpg/Final Fantasy fan, I missed the depth of a proper RPG game and jrpg mecjanics , meaningful gear, party customization, strategic combat, and especially a real magic system. Great action game, but a somewhat disappointing Final Fantasy jrpg for me.

A 6.5/10 for me for a FF game and a 8.5/10 as an action game.

Im used to cute, little, quirky green guys with a hang for murder but these tonberries.. they scare me.

first time I encountered them in the DLC just now and my instinctive reaction was: THEY ARE TOO BIG OMG!

FFXVI Tonberries remind me a lot of a mixture of Japanese Kappa and some Fishhuman, their size here makes them feel way more threatening and dangerous, nothing cute about these guys here :D

this games monster design is rly interesting, whats your favorite one?

Fun builds to play throughout the story

I am going through my 1st playthrough of the story and would love some fun builds to try. One of my complaints for the game is that the fighting seems repetitive, but with clips I have seen online, it shows the opposite. I tried making some of my own, but I cannot make any cohesive enough.

So far, I have unlocked all the dominants until Shiva!

Discussion Why do some sects of the FF community feel like this?

Post image
292 Upvotes

I genuinely don't wanna start any massive vitriolic arguments or issues, but sometimes I'll see posts where someone is just trying their hardest either to rage bait or just flat out deny evidence or even a reasonable discussion/debate about power scaling or otherwise. It just feels like this sometimes (thankfully not everywhere or all the time). I understand at the end of the day folks have their opinions and they don't wanna believe their favorite characters are so and so or how they'd get washed and will bring up factual evidence or situations to prove their side, but when the the evidence to the other side comes up it's like "fake/vibe/non-canon" it's just plain rude and kinda shortsighted, especially if they just outright repeat themselves over and over without even considering the other side. I used those three characters cuz it feels like more often than not 13, 15 and 16 get the most hate cuz OG fans don't like their stories/gameplay/characters etc. I have seen some slander at Tidus every so often, but I digress. Why is it like this? Can't we have a civil discussion without resorting to annoying ass *insert same 6 word phrase about how your fav character is trash cuz they lost in a crossover game or weren't in a crossover game so they must be weaker than all other FF characters*?

My final thoughts Spoiler

my final thoughts after finishing XVI as my first final fantasy game.

1.) the themes and messages of the game are completely wreaked by the ending

2.) final boss was disappointingly easy

3.) the absolute climax of the game was played for a community inside joke/meme drop

And literally none of that matters because holy shit this game was so peak, easily in my top 5 if not top 3, plus the music is so incredible it’s in my daily rotation

I have 100%ed it and am now crying my fucking eyes out after having uninstalled as there’s simply no more worlds to conquer

11/10, the only fantasy here is yours, and you shall be its final witness.
