Discussion Current state of competitive FPS titles - cheaters or no aiming skill required.

Upvotes

Title - all popular FPS games are either infested by cheaters or are crafted for roller which means overpowered aim assist, especially hipfire aim assist + shit audio design to give everyone a possibility of surprising other players.

I am an oldschool cod player (played shitton of competitive cod2/cod4 promod) and I would consider myself decent on KBM (played in top ranks of clanbase and cybergamer leagues when they were relevant in the past), after cod2/cod4, played first seasons of APEX -> MW2019 and so on.

COD has been aim assist/cheat heaven since Warzone 2, that's a fact and there's no point discussing it further, we all know how it is.

Tired with BO7 Warzone cheating and OP aim assist, I came back to BF6 REDSEC (I played like 100h in Season 1 and stopped playing) with big hope that I will not run into cheaters as often as I did in Warzone. Turns out, either aim assist is also overpowered in BF6 or a lot of players are cheating.

I know that BF6 netcode is dogshit and its a desync city, but I cannot count the amount of situations where I am getting killed in CQB fights (within 2-3 meters) in like literally 0.5 second while being fully plated, then I go to spectate the player who killed me and from their POV it looks like they are playing on roller based on their camera movement and I proceed to watch them for a bit - each CQB (0-3m) they take, they are NOT MISSING A SINGLE HIPFIRE BULLET WITH WEAPONS THAT HAVE NO HIPFIRE ATTACHMENTS!!! LIKE THERE'S A FUCKING BULLET MAGNET ON ENEMY PLAYERS!!! SAME FOR ADS ACCURACY, LAST GUY I SPECTATED WAS SHOOTING FULL AUTO WITH BLUE CZ3A1 AND NOT MISSING A SINGLE BULLET AGAINS A PLAYER WHO WAS ~50M AWAY FROM THEM, -180HP IN 1 SECOND.

After playing for last 2 weeks, I came to a conclusion that all new FPS games are made specifically for roller and casual gaming audience - no ACTUAL AIMING SKILL required to kill other players and we still have all the cheaters to account for.

You are free to say shit like "you are just bad"/"players got better at the game with time" etc. - I disagree and refuse to believe that suddenly every kbm players have godlike aim and bullet magnetism, most of players that kill me and are not missing a single bullet are roller players anyway - when I was playing highest level of competitive COD2/COD4, situations in which I was like "OMG HOW HE KILLED ME THERE/WTF HAPPENED" occurred maybe once per 20 matches, in BF6/COD/APEX this happens all the time.

I want to hear the experience of other kbm players and I am ready for downvotes from all 'you're just bad"/"players got better" wannabe professors.

Discussion What’s the appeal of realistic FPS games?

’m mostly a Call of Duty and Battlefield player, and I’ve been wanting to try some more realistic FPS games.

But there’s something I don’t really understand about the appeal. If most realistic weapons can kill you in one or two shots, what’s the actual difference between different weapons? And where does the fun come from compared to more arcade-style shooters?

Is it mainly the immersion, positioning, tactics, gun handling, map knowledge, etc.?

Also, shotguns seem to be portrayed as much weaker than they actually are in a lot of games. If a realistic shotgun could still be lethal at 70–80 meters, wouldn’t that make it extremely powerful in a game?

I’d also love to hear your recommendations for realistic FPS games that are worth trying.

New Game I'm building an FPS where movement is supposed to be part of the combat, not the walk between fights

One thing I've been trying very hard to avoid with Before I Sleep is having advanced movement that looks cool but becomes irrelevant once combat starts.

Wall-running, sliding, dashing and momentum are supposed to change how you attack an encounter rather than just help you reach it faster.

This clip is one of the better examples from the current build.

We're just a group of friends who decided to pool some funds and hire an indie dev to make our dream game.

Can you guys tell me:

- what's confusing?

- what do you want to know more about?

- what parts are exciting and which parts kinda suck?

ALL feedback is awesome, we are NOT pros we are just humble dudes making the game we always wanted to play with a little pro-help on the dev side.

big TY to anyone who posts, (or wishlists us <3)

Discussion I started having fun playing shooters again

I’m usually a competitive guy. I like working on my aim and getting better ingame but I don’t enjoyed ranked in any of the current FPS that has them. They all range from bad systems, to not being fun or me being burnt out.

I started not caring about having a good rank and started trying new games or going back to old ones that I knew were gonna be fun. I randomly enjoy playing Battlefield V and it’s on my rotation. PUBG in other regions is very fun and alive. Playing every mode in Apex besides ranked is fun. I loved Deadlock when it first got popular but didn’t play much during the start of the 2nd wave of popularity because there was a guy in our group that was annoying and it turned me off from the game. I started playing it solo and it’s been a blast learning. It scratches the competitive itch more than any game has in the past 3 years.

Recently I tried the Wardogs beta and I’m very excited for the game and started trying out other tactical shooters again. I tried Squad for the first time and it was so much fun interacting with other players. Arma 3 runs like shit but it’s kind of fun. Rising storm 2 I always liked but now it’s on my rotation again and there is always filled servers. Honestly sometimes a mindset change or life change can really make a difference to enjoying things.

Game Discovery any good vr RPG shooters?

are there any good vr shooter single player RPGs?

ive tried into the radius and that felt too open world for my taste so i tried zero caliber 2 but the guns in that game felt like butt and the story felt forces. is there any games witha good middle ground of good feeling guns (not i didnt say realistic, thats not a requirement for me i love a good scifi gun), at least decent writing, and a relatively linear path.

i know this is A LOT to ask for but i thought id give it a try on the off chance there is.

also if there's anywhere else i should post this pls tell me

edit: im on standalone quest 3 and have steam link but i run smoother on standalone games, also im trying put the bullet storm vr demo and thats a good-ish example of what i like, only thing that hinders it is its poor conversion from flat to vr and its horrible guns are a symptom of thar

Discussion we went from mw19 to bodycam in the trenches within the span of 6 years..

regardless of quality i still find it insane we have untapped potential to how realistic games can be. i always rolled my eyes when many gamers would say "this is as good as graphics will get" towards games that look no better than ps4 games from 2019 yet games like bodycam prove those WRONG.

showing a screenshot of bodycam sadly doesn't do the game justice. but looking at footage i am in awe by what i am seeing. i really think this game and many games to inspire like it paint a promising future for the fps genre.

also its funny to see boomers rage on social media how games like these should be banned.

Game Discovery ArmA 2: Army vs Army — testing updated AI waypoints live

Post image
4 Upvotes

I’m back live showcasing/testing my Army vs Army multiplayer mod for ArmA 2:

https://www.twitch.tv/sparklestiger

What is Army vs Army?
It keeps the original native ArmA 2 experience, but adds persistent survival-style mechanics like stamina, thirst, hunger and time alive. The idea is to make multiplayer feel more like one long mil-sim mission rather than a simple deathmatch shooter.

After playing the current build for a while, I’ve reworked a lot of the AI soldier waypoints. Instead of simply sending squads directly onto obvious objective locations, I’m testing positions based more around useful terrain, approaches, overwatch and perimeter control.

AI soldiers now also carry binoculars, giving them proper observation equipment while operating around those positions.

A couple of other updates from testing:

  • Fixed position saving while armed — the exit-save system now correctly recognizes the rifle sitting/ready postures.
  • Added field hospitals to military installations outside the main headquarters, so a badly wounded player doesn’t necessarily have to crawl all the way back across the island to HQ for treatment.
  • There is also a suspected multiplayer issue with the position-saving system when two real players are connected at the same time. It has not been confirmed or ruled out yet, so this is one of the things I’m specifically looking to test during multiplayer sessions.

The server is public and fully joinable while I’m streaming.

To join:

  • ArmA 2 + Operation Arrowhead
  • Multiplayer
  • Set ping filter to 500 — the server is in the EU, so this helps players farther away see it
  • Search server name: Army vs Army

Everything needed for the game mode downloads automatically when you join.

Today is mainly a live mod showcase/playtest to see how the updated AI movement, recent gameplay changes, and multiplayer saving behave in actual gameplay.
