FB Seller App Megathread

Yes, there is a new app from FB called "Seller."

You do not need to ask "Has anyone else seen this?" - yes, other people have seen it.

This post is to consolidate all the random pop-up posts asking the same questions.

Note: Comments not related to "Seller" will be removed.

Discussion Decreased Views/Engagement Mega Thread

UPDATE: We will be removing comments that are along the lines of "I asked AI, and this is what it said." Do NOT regurgitate something AI told you. Comment either what YOU have experienced, or information you have pulled directly from Facebook/Meta's site or update notes.

Reason: So far, we've already had a dozen different comments saying "Well, this is what AI said" and it's different information than the last person who commented a similar thing. If you can't verify what AI told you, then don't repeat it.

Nearly every day, there is more than a dozen posts along the lines of "I'm seeing less views these days, is it happening to anyone else?"

We understand some folks have difficult searching, so we've decided to create a megathread where everyone can post their complaint, ask questions, or provide suggestions - in one place. New posts about this topic will be removed and directed here.

Specifically, this thread is for:
"I am not getting any views." / "Views and engagement has dramatically decreased."
"My listings are not showing up in searches."

If you're getting a lot of views and saves, but not messages, that's a different problem.

Note: If you have been directed here by a removal, you are not in any kind of trouble. We're just trying to consolidate this topic into one place, for a collective of information, rather than hundreds of individual posts all asking the same thing over and over.

If you're looking for quick answers:

  1. YES, it's happening to lots of people. It is an exceedingly common complaint/question.
  2. No, there is no definitive explanation as to why. Might be the algorithm. Might be what you're selling. Might be a shadowban. Could be any number of things. No one on the internet can tell you exactly why you specifically are seeing a decrease in views.
  3. No, there is no definitive solution. There a variety of anecdotal "fixes." Your results may vary.
  4. This sub does NOT connect to FB customer support. At all. It never has. Feel free to voice your complaints, but understand that we have absolutely no access to your account or to customer service directly.

Final note:

Please remember the first rule of the sub: Keep it civil. Feel free to vent, but this is not an open invitation for abusive language, derogatory terms/slurs or anything like that. Thank you.

Had to leave a one star rating on a guy

Upvotes

Guy has an item at a price that's too good to pass up even though he's 90 minutes away.

Message him, we agree on a price & meetup time. I tell him I will message him when I am about to hit the road to confirm he's still good to go.

Time comes, fire off the message, tell him I'm on my way. No response. Hit the road anyway thinking he'll respond while I'm driving.

30 min later, I pull over for some gas & message him again. No response.

Wait for over 30 min, no response, but I can see that he's seen the message.

I turn around and head home; he marks the item as sold.

I've had people irritate me, but have never left a one star, but I didn't see how I had any other choice here. Almost 2 hours and a quarter tank of gas wasted when a 10 second message would have prevented all of this. Thanks buddy!

Discussion Started selling on Facebook Marketplace this year, my spam is out of control since August

I started selling random stuff on Marketplace earlier this year and pretty much always gave buyers my real number if they wanted to coordinate pickup. Over the last month my spam calls and texts have gone up a ton (there were always a few but the increase rn is crazy) worst part is my Facebook login attempts from all over. I’m getting notifications constantly, probably 10 attempts a week and even more calls/messages. Solution to this? Started last month and it's been ramping up ever since.

Discussion Got suspended last week for fraud wtf

I've been selling for years. Have over 70+ 5 star reviews and I get a message that I've been suspended.

I did a review and same day they wouldn't reinstate my account. I even provided feedback.

Doesn't make sense at all

Is anyone else having a problem clicking on pics in marketplace?

Upvotes

Several times tonight I clicked on a local seller's photo (to enlarge) and the pic never materialized. It showed a similar listing instead. Like a totally different listing. Anyone else? It's sporadic, but happened several times.

Discussion Getting swamped with trade requests

Upvotes

I sell on marketplace pretty often, and from time to time I’ve been offered trades. I’m never interested but it’s funny to see what junk people think is valuable enough to swap. Though last week I put an old PlayStation vita of mine up for sale and I’ve received 7 separate offers for trades, 3 of which coming after I specifically put “No trades“ in the ad. I was wondering if this was a video game related issue (despite half the trades not even being for anything gaming related) or if I have just gotten super unlucky not getting a single monetary offer.

Splitting similar items from 1 post to individual posts

I had several masks for sale. I put them all in one post. $20 each. Yesterday MP tells me...Hey, you can get more views by splitting up the items into individual posts, by clicking here. I click there, edit each one to read for the individual mask, clicked Publish. Low and behold there was a problem. "Looks like you have duplicate posts of the same items."

MP didn't delete the original post, didn't take my edits....like removing all masks but 1 on each new post. So now I have 6 posts...5 individual posts with all 5 masks on each and then the original post with the 5 masks on it.

I had to delete all posts and start over. Just fair warning, I guess

Cannot enter « additional listing options »

Hi
I want to modify a listing in order to update the quantity, because Facebook regenerated the listing with the “in stock” option.
Within the new interface, the option to modify the quantity is inside the additional listing options. But this option is greyed out.
Does someone have a similar problem?

Listing on Marketplace - Hide from friends

I have a question about listing things on marketplace. I don’t want things I have listed to show up on my Facebook feed and have discovered if I need to click “hide from friends” I can avoid that but I then can’t cross list to any groups. The question I have is.
1. If I later unclick “hide from friends” does it then post the item on my Facebook feed?
2. Is there another way I can avoid my marketplace listing from appearing on my Facebook feed?

Please let me know if this is not the correct forum or if this has already been addressed - I didn’t see it when I looked

Has any one had an issue with active listings being deleted? Several of my listings are missing. I still have old stuff from years ago that I sold showing up but many of my active listings are gone.

What happens when I bookmark an item?

If I save an item when browsing marketplace does it show up in friend's news feeds? Does it notify the seller?

If you’re selling a boat SANS Trailer…don’t include the trailer in the photo!

I get it. A boat trailer is more valuable than your old crusty Ski Nautique that “ran when parked” 20 years ago.

But don’t waste our time with 37 phots of the boat and trailer if you’re not selling the trailer with the boat!

"Profile has some issues" FB marketplace

Hi all,

Listed an item and the item got rejected for counterfit / i.p
(It was real) now comes up profiles needs attention with a yellow amber button

It now offers a 180 day appeal but the question i ask

  1. For those who may have had this, does your profile naturally restore / remove this

    sort of flag

  2. over a few months?

  3. It still says i have full access but profile status says needs attention

Listing only showing in 1 group?

Hey this is super annoying and it doesn't happen all the time but lately every time I post something new and I list it in all the different groups as I'm making the listing, you know at the end where it says all the places you want to list it in, and I go back and check and it says it's just listed in one place why is that happening?

Discussion How do I…

How do I find a previous transaction? I bought an Aventon e bike last year. The battery key is missing. Aventon won’t sell me a replacement because I’m not the registered owner. I’d like to contact the guy I bought it from (on Marketplace). But I don’t remember his name etc. I can’t seem to find transaction history either. Anyway to look up a previous transaction?

Discussion First purchase via shipping?

I feel uneasy about making my first purchase on FB marketplace via shipping. It’s a hair straightener for $20 total, with shipping. I’m posting here for reassurance that the process will be fine and I won’t get scammed.

Has anyone successfully purchased a product via shipping? Was everything okay?

I’m afraid to pay for it and something goes wrong, now I’m out of my money.

New suspension wave?

Some background information: I have used marketplace pretty consistently selling a plethora of items for several years. Anything from $20 to $20k. I have 154 reviews with a 4.9 average rating. Never had any issues really.

So a couple weeks ago I get suspended, I did the appeal and they upheld the suspension. I figured ok, I'm Meta verified and I'll just reach out to support. After talking on the phone with them for several days, they've basically said that marketplace is entirely AI controlled and that they have no control, override, or support for it what so ever. Not the end of the world, I dont use Facebook other than marketplace so I guess I get to quit totally, no loss there really.

..and then a few days later my wife (who very rarely uses marketplace) also gets suspended. Weird, but maybe it's because we share wifi.

Yesterday, I go to a men's group meeting and find that all but one of the dozen or so people in the group have also been suspended. These are totally random guys some who use it alot, some a little, and one guy who said he actually never even used marketplace and he happened to notice the button disappeared and after some digging found out he also was suspended.

I get a call this morning at work from a guy who uses marketplace for work and he tells me him and his team have also suspended.

Very weird. Maybe Facebook is winding down the platform instead of removing it totally? I'm thinking maybe it costs them more to operate it than what they were receiving in ad revenue.

FB marketplace etiquette question about price

Hi! Came across a furniture set including a bed frame, two bedside tables, and a dresser, listed for $1. I messaged the seller right away and they asked if I was interested. I said “Very! What an amazing price!”, and they said “or a few bucks if you are so inclined”. We have our pick up day set. I’m just not sure what the right etiquette is here….

Do I give them $5? $20? Or something closer to what all this furniture is actually worth? As much as I love the furniture I probably wouldn’t be quite as excited if it were priced normally. I’m just grateful to have landed such a great deal for a furniture set that I love so much at the perfect time since I am moving, and I don’t want to mess it up!

I don’t use FB very often and I definitely haven’t been in a situation before where the seller is selling something for so insanely cheap but then is also implying that I could pay more.

How much cash should I bring when I go to pick it up?

Thanks!

Discussion Dolly Parton cake mixes

I found someone selling Dolly Parton cake mixes in my city. 5 bucks each.

They're listed as 2.50 at the store.

Is this some kind of trend I'm not aware of where people are flocking to the grocery store and taking all the DP cake mixes, or is this just a special case where a guy thinks he can make some extra money?

Posting items now ends with trying to get me to promote and ship

I wish the people in my area would go back to checking the swap pages so I didn’t have to deal with Fb and whatever h*ll marketplace has turned into. I haven’t posted anything new since the early summer and didn’t realize what a mess it is now. I keep trying to post items and it will pop up some weird “business” agreement thing and if you click next then it takes you to promoting your items and shipping. I literally put in my listing - for LOCAL pickup only - picks up at my door…. And it still tries to get me to do this. I’ve reported it several days now but it is still stupidly coming up for me.

Discussion Seller Agreed to Refund My $1,000 Van Deposit, Then Blocked Me. What Can I Do?

Within the past month, I was in contact with a woman on Facebook about purchasing a van. Her profile was legitimate, and I was able to verify her identity through other social media. We agreed on a price, location, date, and time, for the van and I sent her a $1,000 deposit. She later sent me a picture of the title showing both of our information, with the understanding that the transaction would be completed when I picked up the van the following weekend.

Unfortunately, a family situation came up and I could no longer purchase the van. I let her know, and she said she completely understood and verbally agreed to refund my $1,000 multiple times.

After more than a week, I still had not received the money. I politely followed up several times and attempted to call her, but eventually realized she had blocked me on everything. Since I had her full name, address, and phone number from the title, I contacted a local deputy in her area. The deputy attempted to contact her at her residence multiple times and left voicemails, but she has not responded.

I am currently a dental student, so losing $1,000 is a significant financial burden for me. At this point, I’m trying to figure out what my options are and what I should do next to recover the money.

I would also like to add she said multiple times she would send back the money and completely understood
