So it's only been a few months since I've started reading the comics and watching First Steps and the previous X-men movies intrigued me. I started out with the first issue of Fantastic Four by Stan & Kirby, read the Season One and later continued with the rest of the original run. But at times it gets tiring for me to read it because eventually I do want to read some of the bigger events like Hickman's Secret Wars, etc. I don't want to miss out on the lore which is why I'm scared to start the modern comics.

Did anyone else face similar problems while starting out with comics? or if there are any comics that I could read that are self sufficient, I'd like to know about them. I really wanna enjoy reading and will probably keep continuing to read the original run alongside. It would help if someone could guide me with this. I genuinely am a huge fan of The Fantastic Four and the movie left me wanting to learn more about them.

side note: I'm reading on Marvel Unlimited. Physical copies are not available near me.

I really don’t like graded books but I got this at a great price. I want it in my collection but I’m thinking of cracking the slab. What do ya’ll think?

So I've read Waid's and Hickman's Fantastic Four runs as they are the modern recommended runs but I still feel like I don't know enough about Galactus, Annihilus and other FF villains. I don't want to read entire runs right now from the 60s-90s but are there storylines/issues where I can learn more about Doctor Doom, Galactus and other villains?

I saw someone say that Human Torch could be Marvel’s answer to your typical Shonen protagonist and I’ve been thinking about it ever since

The first thing to note is superhero motivations, which I just realised are actually not very similar to them at all, in the sense that protecting people is the goal but only in the ‘try your best’ way and not the ‘train to do it better later down the road way’

They said they believe that if Marvel gave him his own personal goal of being the absolute best superhero he could be, and then evolving that goal to becoming the best superhero in the world and used the Fantastic Four to be his own place of growth he could become Marvel’s version of Superman or Optimus Prime or something

They said that his powers are very dangerous and harmful, almost the opposite of what a superhero would want as it means putting people at risk instead of saving them, take someone falling from a dangerous height for example

Spider-Man can web you and pull you up, Nightcrawler can teleport you to safety, Reed can grab you and Sue can catch you in a force field. But Johnny can only catch you by turning off his own power on specific parts of his body, if he doesn’t he risks killing you before you would have ever touched the ground

which is why in universe this goal would be so difficult but also much more important not just for Johnny but in general for that very reason,
When Spider-Man tries his best he punches your jaw off, when Johnny tries his best he unleashes enough heat to burn up the atmosphere and kill every living thing on earth at once, it’s honestly just not the same

Johnny has had insecurities since forever about how useful his powers ACTUALLY are outside of combat and fire based situations,

therefore if he actually achieved his goal he would be insanely inspirational to all the other heroes of his world, someone whose powers were tailored made almost for a villain now has somehow found a way to use his powers to save people

Sometimes in comics he has an almost omnipotent control over fire, what I mean by that is tho writers may forget, there are times where he has shown that he can touch something with ‘cold fire’. Fire that doesn’t burn people or things at all. Almost like the fire itself was a visual effect on top of a Green lantern construct

On top of this I think it would be hella cool to see him become a ‘Paragon’ character. Apparently this is a character similar to Superman, Sonic the Hedgehog and Optimus Prime in which they do not change, grow or develop as much as those around them but instead act as a catalyst for that change. The source of inspiration for the characters around them to actually do better because they have someone to look at

A next generation superhero seeing Human Torch with his powers of fire flame and all things destructive seeing him transform himself to allow for more rescue and less damage would be the coolest thing ever.
