As much as I love AOC; your country has proven multiple times that they will not vote for a woman and you literally cannot trust them to do so when it’s so important to get those thieving, murderous traitors out of your government. Will the USA one day be enlightened enough to vote for the best candidate regardless of their sex? Maybe. It’d be nice. I just don’t see it happening yet though.
The fact that voting is still thought about as being for a person and not for a party representing policies is still so incredibly dumb but here we are. That’s what you get when you have a king-like figurehead.
While misogyny plays a role, Clinton was quite literally the worst possible choice at "aiming for the middle" that Dems love to only ever do. Clinton was so demonized by Republican media that the middle hated her too
Kamala was a better choice but theres a lot of wishy washy stuff with that, i dont think you really understand US politics and opinion which is fair if you dont live in the US

I’m not happy with the current state of the Democratic Party and absolutely think they need to (retire and) listen to what the people actually want, but you cannot convince me that gender didn’t play a part.
Outside of Obama, which Democrat hasn’t been a terrible candidate in the last 30 (60?) years? There are good democratic officials, but so long as they keep putting up candidates based on it being “my turn!”, they’re still going to struggle in the main event.
30 years ago was 1996, which would align with Bill Clinton running for re-election. I despise the man and think he belongs in prison, but his approval rating at the time is the highest of any president during an election year after Reagan.
The clinton administration featured lots of deregulation, including the repeal of the Glass-Steagall act, which set the state for the 2008 financial crisis.
I'd say who could have seen that coming, but the act was originally passed in 1933 to prevent another Great Depression.
I was very young, but old enough to remember my mom saying she wouldnt tell me who she voted for. Living in a heavy red area, she voted for Clinton and wouldn't tell her child in fear of it getting out, I guess.
"My turn" was a Republican attack on Hillary running for POTUS. Which made no sense, since she had already run and lost to Obama. But put that aside. It was a political attack.
Hillary had an inside track to the nomination because she had a huge amount of connections in the party. She had campaigned and raised money for people for years. Bernie had done none of that, he wasn't even a Democrat.
Add to that the superdelegate thing, which was intentionally designed by the party to promote centrists after a series of disastrous losses in the 70s and 80s by candidates widely thought to have been too far left for the general election. Agree with that or not, that's what the party designed them to do, to put down insurgent candidates who didn't have a long history in the party or who were seen to be too far left, like Obama and Bernie. With Bernie it worked. With Obama it didn't. Ok.
Certainly Democrats pay attention to seniority in House leadership decisions, but that's not what "it was her turn" was about, really. That was a political attack on Hillary when she was running for POTUS, it had nothing to do with House stuff.
Finally, the "after Obama" stuff makes no sense. Democrats did not change the way they choose House leadership after Obama, and they did not change the way they run primaries after Obama. And Obama was a centrist, so I'm not even sure what you're on about there.
Frankly, Biden, Gore, and Hilary were better candidates than Obama. Obama's inexperience led to difficulties actually getting deals made, and he was more centrist than a lot of people will admit. I still think he was a good president, but this story that other Democrats are consistently bad candidates is just nonsense pushed by propaganda, and if you look at actual policy and effectiveness, it's just not true.

They had better resumes. They were worse candidates.
Because they were encumbered by the weight of the opposition party's constant attacks, just like any long-term Democrat, not because their policies were unpopular.

They were not popular which is why the attacks landed so effectively. Not to say they were unpopular either, but none of them have charisma the way Obama, Bush jr, and even (as much as I hate to say it) Trump do.
Elections are won and lost on turnout. They failed to drive turnout. Well Hillary is a bit of an exception there, but she played the wrong game in the general election and was not a good foil for Trump specifically.
Kamala and Hillary are seen as terrible candidates at least in part due to relentless media attacks on them, which will be the case for any woman who runs. AOC or Whitmer or Slotkin or Klobuchar or Crockett, it doesn't matter. If a woman runs she's going to be attacked so relentlessly and in a way she cannot really even answer that a year after the election people will be out here on reddit telling us what a terrible candidate she was.
It REALLY doesn't matter. Neither of them were any comparison to the nightmare that is reality and the fact you think "they were bad candidates though!" means there was any excuse to just not get out anyway to save us from what we're stuck in is only proving the original comment's point.

This is not a USA specific thing. Throughout all of recent history, this has been the case with damn near every country with elected heads of state.
And in every case where the dam was eventually broken, it broke after a conservative woman ascended to the position - Thatcher, Meloni, Takaichi, Merkel, etc;
I hope the US is amongst the first to break that pattern, but either way, this whole "your country is too backwards to elect a woman" rhetoric does NOTHING but reinforce the very idea that a woman cannot win. And positioning it as a matter of being "enlightened" is ignorant of the actual reality behind all of the aforementioned cases.

Her election differs from the cases I named in that she was the hand-picked successor of a wildly popular president, which is not a situation I think the US will ever get to replicate (nor should it, necessarily). The last time we had a presidential candidate receive as much of the popular vote as Sheinbaum did was in 1820 with James Monroe.

Democratic women are attacked so mercilessly in the media, and news articles on them are so slanted and biased, that it forms a kind of tilted playing field that really may be an unbeatable disadvantage. Conservative women are treated very gently (look at how careful and walking on eggshells the media was about that idiot Palin, for example, or MTG, or Boebert).
A conservative woman has a much, much higher chance of being elected than does a woman who's a Democrat.

I work for a whisky distillery so I've tried a lot and every time I'm like "yep, that's whisky". I can notice some differences, but I'm yet to taste vanilla or whatever.
yes, I taste traits like sweet, acidic, etc but you start talking like notes of grapefruit and Im not sure we tasted the same thing anymore. I still notice a signficant difference between the different drinks but never will I ever get this wild in my descriptions.
Fruity notes mean that the coffee will be more acidic. Notes like chocolate or caramel mean that the coffee will be less acidic. Personally I don’t like an acidic coffee as I like my coffee to damn near taste like cigarettes lol, but if you’re new to coffee they can be a good base to start.
This probably means it's going to be reasonably light, acidic (grapefruit/orange) with a bit of sweetness (honey). I wouldn't expect it to be very deep/rich.
those are normal descriptors for tasting notes, it’s undertones rather than something strong like a syrup flavoring. my favorite coffees usually have tasting notes of stone fruits. to most people it’ll just taste like a decent cup of black coffee though!

I'm not American at all, but I'm committed to spending at least 89% of my maternity leave finding a way to get Ms Rachel into office (this year btw, not 2028)
If I was actively dying of some incurable disease, and Ms Rachel stopped in my hospital room to tell me it would all be OK, I think I would instantly feel so much relief. This woman is the distilled essence of motherly love and trust.
They also deserve childhoods. Black girls, too. Being forced to mature faster than other kids due to having to endure racism and face the harshness of reality at a younger age robs many black children of their childhoods.
4 years ago, my wife and I were struggling with our daughter's severe speech delay. She's our first so as a parent...you just don't know if it's your fault, if you just suck, is something wrong with your kid....all sorts of stuff. But she absolutely loved watching Ms. Rachel. Her educational episodes were the only thing helping our daughter we felt.
My wife sent Ms. Rachel an email thanking her for her videos and explaining our situation a bit, never once thinking she would ever read it, much less actually send a reply.
Ms. Rachel sent a reply. She comforted my wife, said to not be too hard on herself, gave some tips, and pointed to which episodes she felt would help. If you are not a friend of Ms. Rachel's, you're no friend of mine.

I've thrown hands when my nephews friend wouldn't stop saying Nword. I ruined a family gathering when my wife's "funny' friend thought she could tell us all the old racist things we grew up with because her black friend from work was ok with it. Just her telling us, a bunch of white people at the lake, that Brazil nuts were called Nword toes in her house.
Someone who actually pays it forward too. She probably makes a ton off of the show and brand she’s built and pays it forward. Such a fantastic and rare thing to see on top of all of her other correct takes.
Bought my kiddo a basketful of her toys for completing his first week at daycare this week. He adores her and she is the kind of human I want him to be.
